Palanivel and Ezam expected to be given senator post next week

Datuk G Palanivel, the deputy president of MIC is most likely be appointed senator where he will most likely be given a deputy minister’s position in the government next week. This was expected after he voluntarily gave up the chance to contest for the BN (Barisan Nasional) at the by-election of Hulu Selangor where they won under P Kamalanathan. Local news portal Malaysian Insider reported that an anonymous MIC leader told them that “The Hulu Selangor BN chairperson will also be accorded a deputy minister's position. Palanivel (right) is an accomplished leader... he was the deputy minister in the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry and was a four-term parliamentarian,"

The other high profile individual Ezam Mohd Nor, the former Youth Chief of PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) a former aide of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim too is expected to be made senator. Others are Datuk Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman, the executive chairman of Rahim and Co and Noriah Mahatm the Wanite chief of Pagoh Umno. L Sivasubramaniam, the Selangor state information chief of MIC said that “Palanivel should be given a more substantial role, in line with his seniority in the party. Vice-president Dr S Subramaniam, who is lower in party ranking, is the human resources minister. The government needs to retain its win in Hulu Selangor and there is a serious need for a better representation for the Indian community. We make up the third-largest community in the country and there is only one minister to represent us... Palanivel should be made a minister so that the community's problems can be solved sooner and more effectively. With one more minister, (MIC) could just focus on the poor and work to uplift Indians, many of whom live below the poverty line,”
