UMNO dogs....Penang police warn against attending ‘illegal’ state ceramah

Penang police chief Datuk Ayub Yaakob warned the public today not to attend the state Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government’s twin events on the island and in Seberang Jaya tomorrow night, saying those who did would be taking part in “illegal” rallies.

The two planned gatherings at the Tapak Pesta Sungai Nibong and Tapak Expo Seberang Jaya are set to start at 8pm tomorrow.

Bersih 2.0 chief Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan; Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng; his deputy Datuk Mansor Othman; Pantai Jerejak assemblyman Sim Tze Tsin; and federal lawmaker Nurul Izzah Anwar are among the key speakers slated to appear.

But the deputy police commissioner has linked the state functions to the July 9 Bersih march for electoral reform in Kuala Lumpur.

“We have obtained a court order from the magistrate’s court, a notice to prohibit tomorrow’s gatherings, which we have also passed on to the organisers and affixed to both locations,” Ayub was reported as saying by national news agency Bernama in a press conference here today.

He added the police would use their power in accordance with the law to stop the assembly, and reminded the public they will face police action if they choose to attend.

Sim told The Malaysian Insider the PR state government has been holding similar public talks without incident for the past three years as part of its outreach programmes to explain state policy.

“It’s a bit outrageous because it’s being held on state premises ... we don’t need a police permit for such programmes. They are not respecting the separation of powers,” he said, and hit out at the police for bowing to political pressure from the Barisan Nasional (BN) federal government.

Sim added that the organisers were caught in a quandary and that the final decision rested with CM Lim.

The police and some kangaroo judges are too well known to be cat-paws of their master U.

Police in Pulau Pinang should ask their own conscience, today the state is so much better than it was (to all races) when it was under BN/UMNO, have some integrity and stay impartial. Do something good for people to thank and remember you by.

Whats the position of State Governments? Do they have the right to hold functions on their own or is the Police empowers by the Federal Government and the consitution to act in such manner?

Since when police have used power within the law? Everything that the police has done has been always against the law.

Bare in mind I pay your salary so don't forget that!

UMNO flatterers...MCA members cannot attend Bersih 2.0, says Soi Lek

MCA has forbidden its members from taking part in Bersih 2.0 next month and will take disciplinary action against those arrested at the rally.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said the party respected the right to assemble but did not believe taking to the streets in support of what he said were “politically motivated” issues.

“We cannot accept the objective of this illegal rally,” he told reporters at Wisma MCA here after chairing a presidential council meeting.

Dr Chua said election watchdog Bersih was being used by opposition parties to further their own aims and accused the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) of not having the integrity to resign from the state and parliamentary seats it won on an allegedly “unclean” electoral roll.

“If they were elected on a tainted roll, they should have the political and moral courage to resign then,” he said.

“Why hold on to power after three years and then say, oh, it is tainted?”

He added that PR participation in 16 by-elections since Election 2008 despite its insistence that polls were not clean and fair made a “mockery” of the Bersih 2.0 rally.

PR hopes the July 9 Bersih 2.0 rally will generate momentum ahead of a general elections expected within a year.

The first Bersih rally in 2007 saw up to 50,000 people take to the streets of Kuala Lumpur before being dispersed by police armed with tear gas and water cannon.

The rally has been partly credited for PR’s record gains in Election 2008, where the opposition pact swept to power in five states and won 82 parliamentary seats.

Umno Youth and Perkasa have said they will hold separate counter rallies on the same day but MCA has declined to join in.

comments

Who needs their presence, anyway. In fact, it does not make any difference whether they attend or not. Chua is only doing this as a pretext of showing how resolute and obedient they are to their big brother.

low mentalty Umno stooge

Datuk Ibrahim Ali called the Bar Council today a “bastard council” and accused it of playing double standards for attacking the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

“They are hypocrites...I don’t respect at all the Bar Council,” said the Perkasa chief at a press conference today.

Ibrahim pointed out that the Bar Council had protested the burning of Bersih 2.0 chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan’s pictures at a recent Perkasa gathering, but was silent on the burning of Interlok writer Abdullah Hussain’s images at another protest.

The Independent Pasir Mas MP also said the July 9 Bersih rally was a guise to “save” Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim by sparking chaos in the country.

“Anwar Ibrahim is forced to defend himself because prima facie was ruled in the Saiful Bukhari (sodomy case) and because there is a (sex) video of a man resembling the Opposition Leader,” said Ibrahim.

“So...the spirit behind this rally is to overthrow the government,” added the pint-sized Malay rights advocate.

Ibrahim said Bersih 2.0’s rally for electoral reforms was a front for Pakatan Rakyat (PR)’s political agenda, pointing out that the coalition’s deputy chairman was PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, while other PR politicians comprised part of the committee.

When pointed out that the independent polls watchdog had invited Barisan Nasional (BN) to join its rally, Ibrahim said: “That’s propaganda.”

Ibrahim also stressed that he did not oppose Ambiga because she was Indian, but because of her “evil” actions in becoming a shield for the federal opposition.

“They (PR) just want to confuse people by putting forth Ambiga, who is the former Bar Council president,” said Ibrahim, who raised his voice several times during the press conference.

The outspoken MP also lambasted Tan Sri Hasmy Agam, the president of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam), for urging the Najib administration to allow Bersih 2.0, Perkasa and Umno Youth to exercise their constitutional rights to hold their respective rallies on July 9.

“He is a liberal who wants to fight for freedom, but what about responsibilities?” asked Ibrahim.

The vocal politician highlighted the deaths during the recent uprisings in the Middle East, pointing out that security forces were unable to control the mass protests there.

Ibrahim stressed that he supported one’s right to freedom of assembly, but said such rights must be exercised within the confines of the law, such as obtaining police permits.

The July 9 rally by Bersih 2.0 is making eight demands of the Election Commission (EC), including the call for free and fair elections. The government insists that elections are already free and fair, pointing to the opposition’s gains in Election 2008, which Ibrahim also reiterated today.

Ibrahim is a low mentalty Umno stooge and surely not a malay rights fighter.... if not he would have taken street demonstrations against Umno on its Betrayal of Malay privileges WHERE UMNO ELITES SUCKED AWAY ALL THE 52 BILLION bumi shares for the past 53 years meant to uplift the economic status of poor folks,,,, UMno leaders merely enriched their own pockets under the guise of NEP and Perkasa kept quiet....probably he is also part of the Umno sucking Team ?

UMNO, POLICE AND KDN create chaos ....

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim absolved the police forces’s rank and file from blame after a Umno youth mob gathered at PKR’s headquarters last night, and allegedly threatened to burn it down.

The PKR de facto leader told reporters today that recent events proved that the police will not act without prior orders from Umno leaders.

But he pointed out that the police were more than capable of keeping the peace.

“They threatened to burn our building, made death threats and the police were unable to do anything. The problem is Umno’s political interference,” he said after being questioned by the police in relation to the July 9 Bersih rally for electoral reforms.

The mercury has risen ahead of the July 9 march, with the Bersih group and both Umno Youth and Perkasa — who have planned counter rallies — refusing to back down despite the government warning of stern action should any of the groups insist on going ahead without police permits.

Up to 600 Umno Youth members had arrived at the PKR headquarters late last night, just a few doors away from the Tropicana police station, claiming that a death threat sent to Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin recently came from the opposition party, which denied the allegation.

Anwar added that he told senior police officers this evening after being investigated for sedition and planning to hold an illegal gathering, that “in the end, people will attack the police, say they are unfair and double standard.”

The opposition leader added that “it is the image and ability of police that will be affected but it is the duty of the public to defend the police.”

Pakatan Rakyat (PR) hopes the demonstration will generate momentum ahead of a general elections expected within the year.

The first Bersih rally in 2007 saw up to 50,000 people take to the streets of Kuala Lumpur before they were dispersed by police armed with tear gas and water cannons.

The demonstration has been partly credited for Pakatan Rakyat’s record gains in Election 2008, where the opposition pact swept to power in five states and won 82 parliamentary seats.

Sixteen more arrested over Bersih rally by UMNO dogs

Sixteen men have been arrested in Selangor in relation to the July 9 Bersih rally, adding to the 30 PSM members detained in Penang over the weekend.
According to Selangor police chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah, the individuals were arrested for instigating the public to attend the rally calling for electoral reforms, which authorities have deemed illegal.

“These men were arrested around Shah Alam, Gombak, Klang North and the latest arrest involving eight people, were arrested at Taman Kosas in Ampang. Among the incitements were wearing and selling yellow T-shirts,” the CPO was quoted by Bernama Online today.

It is understood that all 16 have since been released on bail.

Hisan, however, added that the police action did not mean anyone in yellow garb will fall foul of the law.

Police on Saturday arrested 30 PSM members, including Sungai Siput MP Dr Michael Jayakumar, as they were making their way to a Bersih roadshow in Penang.

The group were initially believed to have been nabbed for distributing “inflammatory” material such as t-shirts and flyers, but are now being probed for allegedly “waging war against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.”

Authorities maintain none of the three rallies planned for July 9 will be sanctioned and that any mass gatherings on that day will be dealt with as illegal.

Bersih, however, insists the July 9 rally will still go on.

Bersih says will march on without permit

Despite being hauled up for police questioning today, Bersih chief Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan insists the July 9 march for electoral reforms will continue as planned.
The prominent lawyer said she will also not apply for a police permit to hold the street demonstration as the home minister and the police have made it clear one will not be issued.

She then slammed the authorities for hauling up civil society members campaigning for electoral reform instead of engaging them.

“Instead of threatening people, engage with us,” she urged the authorities, repeating the movement’s statement made last night.

Ambiga also repeatedly called the arrests of Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members in Penang during the weekend “ridiculous”, denouncing attempts by various groups to link the minor political group backing Bersih to “communists”.

“I don’t know what it’s about... They are caught in a time warp. Who talks about communists in this day and age?” she quizzed, claiming the arrests were baseless.

The British colonial authorities battled communist terrorists from 1948 to 1960 in a police action called the Emergency and Malaysia later enacted the Internal Security Act (ISA) to allow detention without trial. The Communist Party of Malaysia (CPM) later laid down their weapons in 1989.

“Whoever wants to support Bersih, it’s up to them. It's open to all citizens,” she stressed.

Ambiga, who arrived at the Dang Wangi police station at about 2pm and left nearly two hours later, told reporters she had been questioned on three issues.

The first concerned the Bersih rally launched last week at the Chinese Assembly Hall here; followed by a recent police report in which she was accused of holding an illegal assembly outside the Jalan Travers police station; and the last was about her speech at a PKR-organised event held at the Girl Guides’ Association in Brickfields on June 12.

Utusan seks the messenger of devil's tongue for defamation accused BERSIH 2.0 received foreign Christian funding

Bersih 2.0 chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan rubbished today Utusan Malaysia’s claim that the electoral reform group’s July 9 rally was funded by foreign Christian organisations, saying the money was donated by Malaysian citizens at home and abroad.
“The funds for the rally are entirely from public donations and the [sale of] Bersih t-shirts... I have never even heard of those [foreign] groups,” she told The Malaysian Insider over the phone today after being questioned by the police over the controversial July 9 street demonstration that has triggered two other groups, Perkasa and Umno Youth, to call their own counter rallies.

She added that the Selangor state government has also pledged financial support for Bersih’s July 9 rally.

Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia claimed in an editorial today that Bersih is being funded by some 11 foreign Christian organisations that have donated millions of ringgit to underwrite the group’s rally. It named German think-tank Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAF) and the Canadian Allied Foundation as among them.

KAF is associated with Germany’s conservative Christian Democratic Union and aims to further the “promotion of freedom and liberty, peace, and justice” through “furthering European unification, improving transatlantic relations and deepening development co-operation.”

Little is known about the Canadian Allied Foundation named in the Utusan article.

Ambiga admitted to Bersih receiving some money from two US organisations — the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and Open Society Institute (OSI) — for other projects, which she stressed were unrelated to the July 9 march.
The NDI describes itself as a non-profit, non-partisan organisation “working to support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness and accountability in government”.

According to corporate information on its website, the OSI was started by financier George Soros in 1984 to help countries make the transition from communism, and has grown to include not just the US but more than 70 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Fellow Bersih steering committee member, Maria Chin Abdullah, explained that both NDI’s and OSI’s funding were specifically for to the electoral watchdog’s delineation projects.

“It’s got nothing to do with the rally. The funds [for the rally] are entirely from public donations. A lot of them are from Malaysians overseas. A lot of people donate anonymously into our bank account,” she told The Malaysian Insider when contacted.

Chin Abdullah said Bersih’s rally fund to date amounted “close to RM30,000”, but added the group needed double that figure to pay for its campaigning, which included carrying out nationwide roadshows and the cost of the yellow Bersih t-shirts priced at RM15 each.

She also clarified that the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government’s pledge was only a “verbal promise” and that Bersih had yet to receive a single sen from them.

PAS has promised to bring in hundreds of thousands of supporters from across the country as Pakatan Rakyat gears up for a second such rally in recent years.

Bastard Ministers put the brain in the knee

Dissolve assemblies if unhappy with EC, Shafie tells Pakatan

bastard minister....with dick head  talking cock...!!!

Pakatan Rakyat-led states should dissolve their legislative assemblies to demonstrate their mistrust for the country’s electoral system, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said today.

The Umno vice president called it unseemly for the opposition parties to hold on to the administrations they gained on the back of the election system whose regulators, the Election Commission, they are now attacking as biased and unfair.

The July 9 rally by polls watchdog Bersih 2.0 calling for free and fair elections has received the support of PR parties, with PAS aiming to galvanise all one million of its member to participate.

The first rally in November 2007 saw up to 50,000 people take to the capital’s street before they were dispersed by police armed with tear gas and water cannons.

It was also partly credited for the PR’s record gains in Election 2008, when the opposition pact swept to power in five states and won 82 parliamentary seats.

Stupid minister making stupid suggestion!
That's right, dissolve parliment and see what the result is!
Most probably, Shafie Apdal will be the first to go!

Is this Shafie guy a moron? Pakatan gained in the last election despite unfair election. All we are asking for is free, fair and clean election.

If you are brave Shafie you should advice your own President and Party to dissolve Parliament and seek a new mandate as all of you are illeagle and PM does not have his own mandate he was put in office by only UMNO and not the people. So come face the people and don't hide behind the police and the EC.

30 PSM members arrested over Bersih rally

Sungai Siput MP Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj was among 31 Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members who were arrested today in relation to the July 9 Bersih rally.

The group, which had been travelling on a bus from Kedah for a planned Bersih roadshow in Penang, were intercepted by police at the Sungai Dua toll plaza near Kepala Batas this afternoon.

The 17 men and 14 women are presently being held at the Seberang Perai Utara police station, on suspicion of attempting to distribute “inflammatory” material such as T-shirts and flyers.

Election watchdog Bersih 2.0 is planning a massive rally on July 9 to push for electoral reforms, with PAS aiming to galvanise all one million of its members to take part in the assembly.

Umno Youth and right wing group Perkasa have also promised to carry out separate rallies to rival Bersih’s.

Authorities maintain they will deny permits to all three and have repeatedly warned they will treat the rallies as illegal assemblies.

The Home Ministry also said it will haul up the organisers from the three groups for persisting with their preparations.

Being arrested on suspicion of distributing "inflammatory" tee shirts while the 3 datuk stooges who admitted to public screening of porn gets away with a combined RM5,500 fine. This is 1Malaysia justice which makes Malaysia the laughing stock of the international community. 1Malaysia, Truly Asia's No.1 Joke.

Welcome to Malaysia! You are at risk of being handcuff if police caught you wearing t-shirt with Bersih 2.0 words on it. But it is ok if you are repeating in making racist remarks like Brahim Ali coz Umno will give you immunity

bastard DPM phobia with BERSIH rally is threat to national security

Muhyiddin insists Bersih political, threat to security

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has deemed the July 9 Bersih rally as politically-motivated and a threat to national security as well as the country’s reputation.

Apart from calling in the organisers for questioning next week, police also insist they will not issue permits for at least three rallies planned on the day.

“As far as the government is concerned, we have made a decision and we think that the assembly is illegal and if the purpose is to send out a message that there are disagreements, that there are suggestions that they want to make about the rules of elections to the SPR (Election Commission), there are process and procedures for that.

“Because of that, we think the rationale given by Bersih to have the rally is not relevant. That’s why we say this rally is politically-motivated,” the deputy prime minister told reporters after touring the booths at the GLC Open Day here at the KL Convention Centre.

Election watchdog Bersih 2.0 is planning a massive rally on the day in Kuala Lumpur to push for electoral reforms, with PAS aiming to galvanise all one million of its members to take part in the assembly.

Umno Youth and right-wing group Perkasa have also promised to carry out separate rallies to rival Bersih’s.

Today, Muhyiddin defended the counter rallies and said it was “normal” to have counter groups to any movement.

“Whether it is right or wrong, that is up to our interpretations, but we see this as something that can erupt situations that will not benefit the country, that will ruin the country’s image internationally, in the context of our hard work to develop the nation, attract investors, build our image globally as a peaceful and developed country,” he said.

Muhyiddin acknowledged Umno Youth’s pledge to rally but reiterated the prime minister’s remarks that the authorities have the right to take actions against anyone who participates in the assembly that is deemed illegal.

Police have repeatedly warned they will treat the rallies as illegal assemblies.

“So we leave it to the wisdom of the Umno Youth and Barisan Nasional leaders to decide on whether that is the right move or what is the right action they should take,” he said.

Muhyiddin then claimed news coverage of the rally, if it proceeds, will be used to falsely depict Malaysia as being in a state of unrest.

“We in Malaysia know that after decades, that is not our culture. So I know their trick. We are not stupid, we are also experts in politics and understand their bad intentions.

“So this has bad intentions. They did it on purpose so the people will be in fear and there will be eruption of unwanted incidents and internationally, Malaysia will be seen as a country that is unsafe, tourists will stop coming, investors will not invest because of the unrest, that is their intention,” he said.

bastard Muhyiddin Yassin has deemed the July 9 Bersih rally as politically-motivated and a threat to national security as well as the country’s reputation.

Please do not spin. Bersih is a challenge to corrupt BN and especially UMNO. To the raayat we welcome BERSIH with open arms.

To the international business community Bersih offers hope of new business opportunities and reinvestments in Malaysia. It is the many years of massive corruption, power abuse, plundering, squandering and the interference of the Judicial, MACC, PDRM, EC and AGC by UMNO controlled BN government that had tarnished the image of the country and driving away investors.

Such culture of demonstrations and rallies are not new for during the pre-independence days of 1957, Onn bin Jaafar held rallies against the establishment of Malayan Union. Were their intentions not political?
