Anwar most likely to face Rights and Privileges Committee

Datuk Seri Nazri Abd Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said that a notice of the motion to request for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the opposition leader to face the Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee will be submitted to the Speaker’s office next Monday. The issue has been discussed in the media for a while now since Anwar’s claim on the relation and similarity of the 1Malaysia and One-Israel concepts. Nazri said “The committee will then investigate Anwar’s claim and deliberate and recommend the type of action to be taken.

The committee would be chaired by the Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia and would have representatives from both sides. Anwar’s explanation to the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday did not prove the allegations made by him earlier. He did not show any solid proof to substantiate his claim that 1Malaysia is from One Israel. Apco has also issued a statement to deny Anwar’s claim,” Khairy Jamaluddin, the Umno Youth Chief too believe that Anwar should be referred to the committee saying that “His explanation did not address the allegations he made earlier. He was not specific. He gave a very convoluted explanation,”

UMNO-Bn assholes, folow Parliamenatry procedure and facts, not just listen to BN donkeys with itchy dicks!!!!

If you cannot win a debate intelligently, concede defeat gracefully...oops! can we expect such good courtesy and decent behavior from these low beings...doubt so!

NAZRI SAID THAT APCO HAS DENIED THE ALLEGATION AND THAT IS ENOUGH.

IT MAY BE ENOUGH FOR UMNO TO SILENCE THE TRUTH.
WE AS RAKYAT ARE NOT SATISFIED.
A PROPER INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT!

GOBIND QUESTIONED NAJIB AND HE WAS SUSPENDED.
ANUAR QUESTIONS NAJIB AND THE SAME FATE AS GOBIND IS ON THE CARDS FOR ANUAR.

DOES NAJIB THINK THE RAKYAT IS STUPID???

IF APCO IS ADISING HIM ON THIS......THEN I THINK ITS A WASTE OF 20+ MILLION OF THE RAKYATS MONEY.

THE NEW STRAITS TIMES DUG UP AND REPORTED THAT APCO HAS DEALINGS WITH ISREAL.
YESTERDAY THE SINGAPORE PAPERS RELEASED MORE INFORMATION ON APCO AND ISREALI TIES.
THE US LASO SAID APCO IS JEWISH CONTROL.
UMNO GOVERNMENT SAYS......."APCO HAS DENIED IT AND THAT IS ENOUGH FOR US!

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN ONE-ISREAL AND 1MALAYSIA CAN ONLY BE CONCLUDED AFTER PROPER INVESTIGATION.

HERE THE UMNO GOVERNMENT THINKS IT IS SWEEPING THE MATTER UNDER THE CARPET BY SUSPENDING ANUAR, BUT IN REALITY THEY ARE EXPOSING THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN THE MATTER. THIS IS THE ONLY CONCLUSION THE RAKYAT WILL MAKE.

JUST IMAGINE THE BY ELECTIONS IN HULU SELANGOR, THE MALAYS WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER. AND I AM SURE THE OPPOSITION WILL USE APCO AS THE MAIN CAMPAIGN THEME.

UMNO AND THE IGP WILL SAY YOU CANNOT USE APCO! FINE I AM SURE THE OPPOSITION WILL NOT USE THE NAME APCO.........PERHAPS ZIONISM IS ANOTHER TERM THEY CAN USE!
THE MUSLIM MALAYS WILL REALLY BE 'HAPPY' ABOUT FINDING OUT MORE........

UMNO JUST SIGNED THEIR LOSS AT HULU SELANGOR!
I JUST WANNA LAUGH!

Why are Malays poor? Blame it on Umno!

Of late, the pressure is building up to convey the impression that the Malays are poor because of the non-Malays. It is trumpeted that the non-Malays are enriching themselves at the expense of the Malays.

This erroneous and mischievous line of argument is deliberately pushed to achieve two objectives: One, to get the Malays riled up and to create hatred for the non-Malays as the source and cause of Malay poverty. Two, this is a ploy to consolidate the position of these hate-mongers so that they can be accepted as the defenders of the race and champions who would deliver the Malays from their wretched situation.

But these extremist elements do not reveal how they have benefited from the policies of Umno that were meant for the welfare of the majority poor Malays. They do not reveal how the benefits have gone to the crony corporate figures and the well connected political elite irrespective of their ethnicity.

They do not disclose how billions of ringgit had been squandered to rescue the failed ventures of their elite group. They do not disclose how billions were pumped into Bank Rakyat and Bank Bumiputera to sustain them. They do not disclose why Mirzan Mahathir’s floundering and debt-laden shipping empire had to be bailed out with our national wealth. They do not disclose why Tajudin Ramli’s stake in MAS was bought over for RM8 per MAS share when the market price was only RM3.62.

Likewise many other individual Malays have benefited enormously. They don’t lose out when their businesses fail but they gain in spite of their failure. Contracts, licences, AP permits, new shares and whatnot are grabbed by these individuals for themselves and their families. The poor majority Malays do not benefit from these policies.

It was recently disclosed that out of RM54 billion in shares allocated for Bumiputeras, only RM2 billion were still in their hands. What has happened to the RM52 billion that cannot be accounted for? RM54 billion is a colossal sum of wealth that has been dished out. How did RM52 billion disappear into thin air?

After 40 years of NEP, it is absolutely unacceptable that the deserving poor have not benefited in the way it was intended. Sometimes we wonder if the Malays are kept poor simply and deliberately to get their votes by blaming the non-Malays for their abject situation.

Over the last 40 years, successive Umno presidents and deputy presidents served as prime ministers and deputy prime ministers wielding great powers, influencing policies and determining the fate of the Malays.

Every Education Minister since Merdeka has come from Umno. Every Finance Minister after Tun Tan Siew Sin has been an Umno man. Every Rural Development Minister has been an Umno man. The Cabinet was dominated by Umno leaders.

How is it that with this heavy representation of Umno leaders in the Cabinet the vast majority of Malays have remained deprived and desperately poor? How did Umno, ever ready to advance Malay interest, permit this neglect?

The Umno-dominated Barisan Nasional holds the purse strings of the national wealth. Why wasn’t this wealth distributed to the poor as well? Why did the greedy grab everything? Was this done without the knowledge of Umno leaders?

Don’t blame the non-Malays who have no say in the policies of the government; blame it on Umno. Who squandered the national wealth on prestige projects while neglecting the poor? Who bailed out crony businessmen by writing off billions of ringgit? It is Umno and nobody else! If the Malays are poor, it is because of Umno. Don’t blame it on others.

There is a serious lesson to be learnt from John F. Kennedy’s view: If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.

The Rakyat not stupid these days la.. Even the orang Kampung melayu also sudah bangun. See the big houses, the jewellery, the opulence all these people ada... wamt to bluff people also cannot! That is why UMNO baru are so concerned about preserving their position and power because obviously they have too much to lose! Including things they tried to cover up so long!!

The blame MUST surely be on UMNO. They are the ones that have full control of the government and not the non-malays. So after having governed the country for so many years, you still hear of some leaders blaming the non-malays of exploiting the majority malays is truly UNBELIEVABLE.

As long as UMNO remains in power, majority of Malays will be poor and they will serve the rich malays. The blame game will go on forever, so that the hatred remains, communities remain divided and UMNO remains in control !

Bcos the malay political elites and their cronies rob their own kind blind and blame it on others. Always crying wolf and barking up the wrong tree for the last 40 years but unfortunately this strategy still works for Umno .

But also fortunately the urban malays are not so gullible nowadays. They work amongst and with the non malays for the same pay and they know that all of us are struggling to put food on the table and to pay off our housing loans, car loans credit cards etc. If you ask a malay how can a non malay with no special treatment deprive them of opportunities when both of us are working for the same amount of pay they just keep quiet and you know in their hearts what would be their answer.

Najib says Perkasa is not extreme

Datuk Seri Najib Razak (picture) sidestepped a question tonight on whether he was a Malay or a Malaysian first in an interview on satellite news channel Al Jazeera, while defending Perkasa as “not so extreme.”

“Well technically, if we talk about the constitution, I am a Malay but I’m comfortable being a Malay in a Malaysian society. And I want us to work towards becoming a truly One Malaysia society. But I’m proud to be a Malay. I’m proud to be a Muslim. But the fact that I’m proud to be a Malay and a Muslim, it doesn’t mean I cannot relate to others,” he told Al Jazeera’s Fauziah Ibrahim tonight when asked if he was a Malay or Malaysian first.

The question came after he was forced yesterday to defend his deputy’s declaration that he considered himself “a Malay first”, and only then a Malaysian.

Responding to a challenge from DAP’s Lim Kit Siang, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had said earlier this week that it was not proper for him to identify himself as Malaysian first and Malay second.

The PM was also forced to defend his government’s policies amid criticisms from groups like Perkasa.

“No I didn’t say they’ll be taken away,” he said when asked about opposition from Malay rights groups who fear their special privileges and their rights may be taken away from them.

“Perkasa is not so extreme, if you listen to them carefully. They can shout about Malay rights as long as they are not extreme in their views and you know to the extent that we can accommodate Perkasa. And we can accommodate also the non-Malays as well. I do engage the non-Malay groups as well, so as Prime Minster, I’ve always said I’m Prime Minister for all Malaysians.”

Tonight’s interview on Al Jazeera was conducted on the eve of the anniversary of his first year in office, and comes in the same week in which he introduced his New Economic Model (NEM) which he hopes will be the plank of his administration.

During a speech earlier this week, Najib had spoken of the need to roll back affirmative action policies which encouraged rent-seeking and patronage.

He also pointed out that under the NEM, affirmative action policies would be needs-based and not just race-based, but he did not provide any details on how this would be achieved.

The PM was also asked tonight about the growing influence of Perkasa, the group which has been fighting for the current affirmative action policies to be maintained and which has the patronage of former PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“No, no, that’s not true. They are by and large supportive of Umno and they believe that Umno is the only vehicle that can really, not only promote Malay interest but really hold this country together. I think Umno is a strong party. Umno is well-established. Umno can deal with the emergence of Perkasa as well as other groups as well”, he said when asked about the recent warning from Perkasa to not make the group an enemy or risk losing their support.

Speaking about his 1 Malaysia platform, Najib denied that the special privileges of the Malays would be trampled upon.

He said that 1 Malaysia was predicated on the constitution and provisions to protect Malay special rights.

“I think if you implement things in a fairer way, you can reach out you know, to the Malays, to the non-Malays as well.

“Don’t forget, when we implemented the New Economic Policy back in the 70s and 80s, and even in the 90s before the Asian Financial Crisis, it coincided with the growth rates in Malaysia being at break neck speed, you know 8 to 9 per cent was the norm in those days. So, New Economic Policy, affirmative action has never really hampered the growth of Malaysia into a modern economy.”

The PM was also asked about Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial, and reiterated the government’s stand that it was not a politically-motivated trial.

“Well, I think we have to make people understand that it’s not the Malaysian government against Anwar Ibrahim. This is not a political trial. It’s about a young, well not intern, but a young officer chosen by him in his office, a 22 year-old man who feel very aggrieved, made a police report against his employer. And that was the genesis of the present case. It’s got nothing to do with the government. If that person did not make a police report, there’d be no case against Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.

He added that Anwar’s trial now should not be compared to his first sodomy trial which happened when Dr Mahathir was PM.

Asked if he thought that the first sodomy trial was political, he said: “I don’t think it was political, the first case. But there was maybe lack of corroborative evidence, if you like”

"And we can accommodate also the non-Malays as well. I do engage the non-Malay groups as well, so as Prime Minster, I’ve always said I’m Prime Minister for all Malaysians.”

Oh yes, you engaged the non-Malay group by sending them to Kamunting, Perak. Your explanation about Anwar's trial is crap. Young 22-year old made a police report? After seeing you for green light?

Perkasa is not extreme but the extreme is going to happen and that is Umno is on its way out, as can be seen many Malaysian Malays are against Umno's discrimination against other ethnic groups.

To be Malaysian first is to feel and fight for all Malaysians, and if one is a Malay first, then one would fight for Malays against the Malaysians. That is the difference being first a Malaysian and second a Malay or Chinese or others. To say otherwise would be lying as one cannot serve two masters at the same time. Either you serve the first and hate the second or the other way round.

Therefore 1Malaysia is nothing more than a slogan ,giving false hope to the weak and deceiving the other race further.

Nazri hits out at PERKASA for using EOC for political mileage

Datuk Seri Nazri Abd Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said that Malay-rights NGO PERKASA are ‘political opportunists’ after it was reported that Datuk Ibrahim Ali, the president of the movement said that the setting up of the EOC (Equal Opportunity Commission) under the NEM (New Economic Model) would put Article 153 of the Federal Constitution in jeopardy.

Nazri said “Article 153 would not be in “any jeopardy” as the EOC was subjected to the framework of the Constitution. You can have the Equal Opportunity Commission subject to the requirements of the Constitution. Equal opportunity for all must be subject to the provisions of the Constitution. Any decision by the commission should not contravene the Constitution. If Perkasa was against equal opportunity then it should also condemn the New Economic Policy.”

PERKASA IS ADVOCATING DISLOYALTY. Charge them for treason for advocating that everyone thinks in terms of their ancestral country coming in first before Malaysia.
In the event of an invasion by other countries, Malaysia will only be defended by the Natives namely, the sakais, Negritos, Ibans, Samais etc.

The PM will chabut to Bugis land, Hishammuddin will run off to Turkey and perhaps Lim Kit siang may just stay behind to fight and die for the country. Even Badawi may just balek China as his ancestors are from China.
Now where will this Puki Mak who was so vulger on being interviewed by Al Zeera be running to?

PERKASA slams NEM for lacking in Malay agenda

Datuk Ibrahim Ali, the president of Malay-rights NGP PERKASA has slammed the NEM (New Economic Model) to being lacking in Malay agenda. He said “Providing assistance to the lower 40% of the population with a monthly income of RM1,500 or less per month is regarded as a poverty eradication programme. Where is the stake for the Malays in the distribution of the country’s economic cake?

What’s important is fairness and not equity,” He added that “Foreigners who were involved in formulating the NEM will not be bothered about the indigenous people. If strategic areas are developed under the open tender system, the Malays will not be able to compete. The NEM has given rise to many questions and Perkasa is not happy in the issue of Malay agenda,”

Pakatan claims BN’s NEM copied their Malaysian Economic Agenda

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim claimed that the NEM (New Economic Policy) announced by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was ‘copied’ form the MEA (Malaysian Economic Agenda) proposed by the Pakatan Rakyat. Claiming that the BN (Barisan Nasional) ‘stole’ ideas from their agenda, Anwar said "One cannot help but wonder whether the crux of his speech yesterday was an extraction of Pakatan Rakyat's MEA. The pillars of NEM sound very familiar to those who are accustomed to MEA," He added that "The prime minister stressed on the need to attain high economy, achieve sustainability and promote inclusiveness in driving the economy, especially in moving towards needs-based affirmative action.

The similar ideas were stated in the Pakatan's manifesto for the 2008 general elections. Although the government admits that the economy needs a major overhaul, it refuses to embark on structural reforms of public institutions, as well as practices and policies that have been an impediment to growth. There was hardly any mention of concrete actions to bring credibility to the judiciary or reforms in other government institutions. In the end, the announcement of NEM became another confirmation that this government is driven by public relations - what more with its association with (global consultancy firm) Apco - and lacks the political will and courage to carry out all the necessary reforms to save the country,"

Questioning the NEM further, Anwar who spoke at the press conference with his wife Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, the president of PAS, Lim Kit Siang, the DAP adviser added that "The issue is that this is not merely a public relations exercise. Is there a commitment to reform? Free media? RTM, TV3, and Utusan (Malaysia) is controlled fully by the government, which mean that you are not able to receive criticisms or views. (What about) the issues of judicial independence, transparency and procurement policies? You say that you want to privatise, but to whom? First to EPF (Employees Providence Fund) and then transfer it to your crony companies?"

Anwar also said "EPF has been actively used and there is danger that it is being utilised as a temporary body before the assets are transferred to company associated with (BN) leaders and their cronies.”

Ibrahim Ali slams Chinese press for ‘demonizing’ PERKASA

Datuk Ibrahim Ali, the president of PERKASA, a malay-rights NGO has called on on the Chinese newspapers to stop ‘demonizing’ PERKASA. He said "The articles in the Chinese press are written in such a way, so as to provoke the Chinese into hating the Malays. They accuse Utusan of inciting racism, but it is they who are practicing it. We can also do the same, we can incite the Malays to hate the Chinese. But we will not, because we are responsible.

This cannot continue, this must stop.” This came in light after an article written by Tan Hooi Chiao and published in Sin Chew Jit Poh which Ibrahim claimed to have attacked him personally. He said that he and PERKASA will be monitoring the Chinese press. "I have formed a commitee in Perkasa to monitor the articles on the Chinese press. We will translate them and distribute them to the Malays. We also have our own publication now, we will re-publish those articles in our paper. This is so that the Malays will know of this. Before this they don't know because only the Chinese can read them."

Police investigate Perak DAP chairman’s allegations

Police have started investigations into claims by Perak DAP chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham  that there were too many police officers when the Perak state legislative assembly was in session on Tuesday and yesterday.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said two police reports were received from the public, urging the police to investigate Ngeh for his claims that were published in a local Malay daily Utusan Malaysia and a local TV station, TV3.

“We have started investigations and those involved will be called to give their statements,” he said in statement today.

Zulkfili said the presence of the police was due to a request made by Speaker Datuk R. Ganesan to ensure the safety and public order in the Dewan, since there had been previous incidents.

“Police were not inside the Dewan but merely outside the Dewan and the state secretariat building compound,” he said.

Yesterday, Federal Police Chief Tan Sri Musa Hassan said Ngeh’s claims that ‘police may shoot at opposition lawmakers because they disliked them’, as irresponsible and said with bad intentions.

Ngeh who protested the presence of a large number of police officers at the Perak Darul Ridzuan building during the Perak legislative assembly on Tuesday yesterday, had questioned the motive of their presence.

He was quoted as saying: “I am afraid that tomorrow if there is a debate and they do not like what we say, they can take out their guns and shoot us dead. This can happen because they may not like us.” — Bernama

Ahmad Ismail appreciates current division leader for his ‘sacrifice’

With the resignation of the 36 committee members of the Umno division of Bukit Bendera, it seemed that the move, which was intended to reinstate Datuk Ahmad Ismail as the division’s chief. The resignation means that it will now pave way for fresh divisional elections. Abdul Jalil Ariffin, the current chief said that the exco members are now demanding that an EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting) be held for fresh elections to take place.

Ahmad was suspended for 3 years recently after his outburst on non-Malays when he called them immigrants (Pendatang) during the campaigning activities for the Permatang Pauh by-election. Ahmad said that he appreciates Abdul Jalil for ‘sacrificing’ himself. He said “I thank him for his action. He is willing to resign even though his term will not be over until 2011. The situation had allowed Umno grassroots to express their undivided support for him as well as their unhappy over his suspension. So, what can we learn from this? If BN was strong, I believe no action would be taken against me. But because of the 12th general election results, in order to stabilise the party, I was temporarily sacrificed. But that is okay,"

I am a Malay first, says Muhyiddin

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (picture) said today that he considered himself a “Malay first,” and then only a Malaysian, in response to a challenge issued by DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang.

Lim had earlier this morning challenged Muhyiddin to state that he was Malaysian first, and Malay second to prove that he did indeed believe in the concept of 1 Malaysia which had been Barisan Nasional’s “unifying” slogan under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“I am Malay first! But being Malay does not mean you are not Malaysian. It is not a race issue. It’s an understanding of the term gagasan. I dont think Kit Siang understands what the word gagasan means,” said the DPM.

Muhyiddin, who is also Barisan Nasional Deputy Chairman claimed that Lim’s persistence in the matter was a Pakatan Rakyat (PR) tactic to try and drive a wedge between him and Najib.

“The question of 1 Malaysia should not be brought up. When a leader talks about the interest of his own race, it does not mean he doesn’t support 1 Malaysia. 1 Malaysia is based on the Constitution.”

“There is nothing wrong in leaders fighting for their own race. Don’t tell me Kit Siang does not fight for the Chinese?” he said.

Muhyiddin also accused Lim of using the benchmark of “middle Malaysia” on him, which was not applicable.

“I challenge Kit Siang to come out and say that PAS and PKR supports the concept of Middle Malaysia... can he do that? They don’t support it. It’s only a DAP slogan.”

“Look at Barisan Nasional, 13 component parties of different races and all believing in the message of 1 Malaysia. His (Kit Siang) party is a chauvinist party.”

Malay First then Malaysian does not mean you are not Malaysian so it would also mean Malaysian First then Malay does not mean you are not a Malay rite?So much for 1Malaysia. Dear DPM the moment you said Malay First then Malaysian is a clear sign that you do not believe in 1Malaysia and you only believe in one thing!to garner more AMMO within UMNO

but Sorry DPM,

We are Malaysian first and our race second. We would not fight for our own race, but we will fight for :
a) corrupted practice
b) those racist leader and policy
c) well being of our economy
d) safety of our country

The most silly MP in the parliament. Muhyiddin should be nominated for an award in this category. 1Malaysia is in direct conflict with Malay first. This is not April Fool day yet, but Muhyiddin is already making a fool of himself. Nice going, uncle Lim.

Now, imagine a white man says the same thing in US Congress as Muhyiddin does. Nothing less than a headline in the US news media labeling him as racist before being ousted as a congressman.

APCO did work for Israel in the 90s

APCO’s denial that it ever did any work for the Israeli government has proven untrue as a Straits Times report revealed that filings with the US Justice Department show otherwise.

The international public relations firm “entered into an agreement in 1992 to provide services for the Jewish state.

“In written queries about the State Department filing, APCO said it worked with another associate company on a project for the Israel government at the time.”

APCO’s deputy managing director B. Jay Cooper said, “The work, which was primarily in the media area, involved acquiring US government money for Russian immigrants’ housing in Israel.”

Cooper went on to explain that APCO “was then owned by Grey Global Group.”

“In 2004, APCO did a management buy-out and cut all ownership ties with the Grey Global Group,” he said. “APCO Worldwide, with new ownership, is today’s company.”

APCO’s own public relations nightmare began when Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (picture) alleged that the prime minister’s 1 Malaysia campaign was APCO’s idea and closely mirrors former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak’s One Israel campaign.

Anwar had suggested that One Israel was conceived by APCO.

The link, while tenuous, could weaken Malay support for Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration.

So far, APCO and senior government officials have denied that it has any links with Israel.

But Anwar, speaking in Parliament yesterday, dropped another bombshell when he said that APCO’s link with the Malaysian government began well before 1 Malaysia.

Anwar also zeroed in on Asero Worldwide, an APCO associate, that specialises in homeland security and is headed by Israeli security experts.

Najib says NEM will eliminate patronage, rent seeking

Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today that the rent seeking and patronage that has marked affirmative action policies will not be tolerated under the New Economic Model (NEM) which he says will now consider all races fairly as long as they are in the lower income group.

“We can no longer tolerate practices that support the behaviour of rent seeking and patronage which have long tarnished the altruistic aims of the New Economic Policy,” the prime minister said today when unveiling the NEM at the Invest Malaysia conference. ”For too long the implementation of our affirmative action policies has not reached those who needed them the most.”

Najib said that the renewed affirmative action policy in the NEM would focus on raising income levels of all disadvantaged groups.

He added that affirmative action will be market friendly, merit based, transparent and needs based.

He said one important consideration will be developing a competitive and transparent tender process for the bumiputera business community.

“In practice, this approach will mean greater support for the bumiputera, a greater support based on needs not race.”

Najib also acknowledged that there would be opposition to reforms from vested but vowed to push through with reforms.

“I pledge that we will work to develop and implement economic reforms needed for the country to grow further,” Najib said. “Some are questioning the need for urgency to break habits of the past. There are now calls to protect the status quo. Do not be fooled. We need a new way of doing things.”

The PM unveiled today economic reforms that he said would make this country a developed nation by 2020, outlining broad strokes but providing few clues as to how he would get there.

He said that the NEM, which forms the backbone of his administration’s long term policy agenda, would undergo a period of public feedback and details will be integrated into the tenth and eleventh Malaysia plan.

He added that the NEM would be delivered through the Economic Transformation Programme which consists of eight strategic reform initiatives:

1) Re-energising the private sector to lead growth

2) Developing a quality workforce and reducing dependency on foreign labour

3) Creating a competitive domestic economy

4) Strengthening the public sector

5) Putting in place transparent and market friendly affirmative action

6) Building knowledge based infrastructure

7) Enhancing sources of growth

8) Ensuring sustainable of growth

Najib said that key sectors, called the National Key Economic Activities (NKEA) would be identified where the economy would have the potential to thrive.

He added that the “New Economic Model” will see more divestments of government holdings in listed companies and the government is still in consultation on the reform of its subsidy policy.

However, there was no timeframe for the new taxes and for cuts in a subsidy regime that sees Malaysians pay one of the lowest prices for petrol in Asia and that cost the country RM24.5 billion in 2009 out of 160.2 billion in federal government operating spending.

And again, the NEM will fail as history will repeat itself and it's back to square one where the UMNOputras will manoeuvre its corrupt hands; the likes of Perkasa's idealogy through its implementation process which is why the 80% of the poor Malays and the rakyat has remained in this present state for the last 52 years under BN rule...KRA & KPI will be compromised for sure because of the NEP syndrome.

Long shadow of Perkasa over Najib’s NEM — Lim Kit Siang

The general consensus is that the New Economic Model announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak pledging long-promised economic reforms is singularly short of details as to convince Malaysians that there is the political will to match words with deeds.

Even more serious, Najib’s unveiling of the New Economic Model has not been able to come out of the long shadow cast by the Perkasa inaugural congress spouting neo-NEP Malay communalism as it was attended by several Umno deputy ministers.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng asked yesterday why RM52 billion worth of shares of public-listed companies allocated for Bumiputeras under the New Economic Policy were no longer in their hands.

Raja Petra Kamarudin has estimated, in his portal Malaysia-Today, that the real cost of the New Economic Policy may be the colossal figure of RM500 billion, saying that this could be a low estimate.

Unless there is a political will to admit that the chief cause why Malaysia has become internationally uncompetitive, plagued by multiple problems such as brain drain, galloping corruption, falling FDIs and crisis of confidence in key national institutions as compared to neighbouring countries is the NEP — its abuses and in particular its perpetuation after 1990. Nobody believes that the Najib administration has the political will to craft and implement a New Economic Model fundamentally different from the NEP.

For instance, “zero tolerance for corruption” is among the highlights of the measures in the New Economic Model announced by Najib to propel Malaysia to developed nation status by 2020.

There would be greater credibility in such a measure and in the New Economic Model if Malaysians can see greater seriousness in the fight against corruption in the first year of the Najib premiership but this is not the case.

In fact, Malaysia had never fallen as low as the present in the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index annual ranking, where Malaysia is ranked in the 56th placing last November — the lowest ever in 15 years since 1995 when Malaysia was ranked No. 23.

In this context of worsening corruption, any talk of “zero tolerance for corruption” only highlights the utter lack of reality or seriousness of the New Economic Model.

For this reason, the biggest problem faced by Najib’s New Economic Model is the same faced by his 1 Malaysia concept — whether he is prepared to walk the talk.

For a start, is Najib prepared to demonstrate seriousness in far-reaching reforms of national institutions starting with appointing new heads for the three key institutions in the country most in need of restoring national and international confidence — Inspector-General of Police, the Attorney-General and the Chief Justice?

Anwar produces M’sian Govt-Apco linked documents

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the opposition leader today at Parliament produced 2 documents to back up his claims on the Apco Worldwide issue where he reported that there were actual links between the Israeli company with the 1Malaysia concept mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

One is the agreement signed between Apco and the government witnessed by Tengku Sharifuddin Tengku Ahmad, the press secretary of Najib while the other is the agreement between Apco and the then Ehud Barak led Israeli government when they used the One-Israel motto, said to have resemblance to the 1Malaysia concept. Anwar said that the documents showed proof that there were links between Israel and Apco.

He said “Members of Apco staff were already working with the Najib government even before the contract was signed through the recommendation of Atos Consultancy, a company with links to former Najib special officer Omar Mustapha. This was way before 1Malaysia was announced. As such, in its (Apco) duties to provide 'communications support' to the Malaysian government, Apco may have worked with Najib on 1Malaysia.”

BN will find the best candidate to contest in Hulu S’gor

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the BN (Barisan Nasional) will be finding the most suitable candidate to stand in for the by-election of Hulu Selangor. This came in light after the death of Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Ahmad, the Member of Parliament of Hulu Selangor from PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) who succumbed to brain cancer, leaving the parliamentary seat vacant.

Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu, the president of MIC has proposed that Datuk G Palanivel, the deputy president of the party be fielded. Muhyiddin said “Choosing the right candidate was important to ensure that Barisan would win the by-election. We will carry out all preparations and wait for the Election Commission to fix the date for the by-election. We hope Barisan can take back the seat but we cannot be over-confident. Recent disclosures in Parliament by former PKR MPs should give some pointers to the voters on who they should support.”

Listen to PERKASA – Dr M tells Najib

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called on Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the current premier not to ignore PERKASA, a Malay rights movement and to listen to what their views are because they are the voice of the Malay community and that it has become a strong force. He said “Listen to their views, whether it is sane or insane. Failure to listen will result in lost votes as the Malays are his core constituents. The Government is listening to the grouses of other communities and it should also listen to the grouses of the Malays,’’ Speaking at PERKASA’s Annual General Meeting, he added that “The recent sprouting of Malay-based NGOs like Perkasa that expressed views on political issues affecting the community reflected erosion of confidence in Umno. For 50 years we did not see the existence of such NGOs because Umno had always championed Malay issues. Perkasa is not an extremist or a violent group; its objective is to defend and protect the rights of the Malays.”

He also commented on the recent revelations made by Zulkifli Noordin, the MP of Kulim-Bandar Baharu who said that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the opposition leader has been involved in trying to get him (Zulkifli) to link the death of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu to the Najib and his wife. Dr Mahathir said “Even when he was serving as my deputy, he conspired to topple me. He is nice in front of me, but behind my back, he was plotting my downfall with someone from Negri Sembilan. Anwar would cry conspiracy when he was caught in a position where he could not explain himself.”

Dr M slams Pak Lah’s administration for allowing racial tension to develop

The former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that public debates which dwell on racial issues are hampering the economic growth of the country and that they will destabilize the country and put the blame on Tun Abdullah Badawi, his successor for being responsible for the current racial tension situation in Malaysia. He suggested that under his administration, the country was more united. He said “I am worried because over the last five, six years, you don’t see the country growing at all. At the same time you see accusation on the part of all races. The Malays accuse the Chinese, the Chinese accuse the Indians and then the Indians accuse the Malays," Dr Mahathir added that “Before that there were no such opposition because people were doing well and happy.

The government was also doing everything possible and of course we are not perfect, but people were happy. If the people were not happy then they would have created a lot of problems. There was also no questions asked about who gets what and how much. If there are questions, we deal with it behind closed doors because if you go public then emotions are stirred and that is not good. When I stepped down, it seems that the new government of Abdullah was more liberal and this is because the people want to have more freedom to discuss sensitive issues but as you can see today the relationship between the different races is worse than during my time. So the question is whether you want to have the freedom to discuss for the sake of discussing or you want to have stability in this country. If you want stability and growth in this country then it better to handle this thing as a sensitive issue but if you think that you want to be liberal like in some countries, they cannot grow because they are liberal and the situation in the country is always unstable,”

He added that public debates could be counter-productive which instead of a more harmonious result could end in anger and racial tension. He said “If there is public debate on racial issues then of course you will defend your race. The other side will defend his race and sometimes they don’t stick to facts. They say things which raise emotions, anger and hatred which will destabilize the country. I know all about freedom of speech but I know many countries which have freedom of speech and can never have any progress except for the highly developed countries. There they can curse each other and then adjourned to the pub and have a beer. But here, if you curse each other it, you don’t talk and becomes worse. Your daughter cannot marry his son and that sort of things. Here we are different from them. The non-Malays should also stop making baseless allegation such as all scholarships are given to Bumiputeras and all government contracts are given to Bumiputeras. Is this true or not? It is not enough to just speak, must have facts. It is not based on facts. I want it to be based on facts. This is a multi-racial country. We have share together because we live together. But if we make baseless accusations against one another, it will create instability. Instability will affect everybody,”

On the current administration under Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, he said “The situation is way better than Pak Lah. During Pak Lah’s time, I could not speak at all. I was not invited by anybody. He is very liberal and democratic but people like me could not speak. However Najib did give me some opportunity to speak so he is good. Najib also has ideas (for the country). My hope for Datuk Seri Najib is more than the predecessor, Mr. Corridor. There are many corridors but what can you find in the corridors? The press should make a report on all the corridors of the five years, what has been done,”

Anwar hits out at PERKASA calling them ‘pretenders to the role of protectors of Malays’

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spoke at a PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) gathering where he slammed the PERKASA, who held their first Annual General Meeting. Anwar said “The so-called defenders of Malay rights only speak up for poor Malays when their power to appropriate the wealth of the country for themselves is threatened. Otherwise, they are silent, conniving at the disproportionate allocation of the nation's wealth from its timber resources, oil and gas deposits, and corporate profits to a plutocratic few.” Defending the Pakatan Rakyat component parties, he added that “None of the Pakatan component parties had been on record as questioning the role of the Malay rulers, position of Islam, and special status of bumiputeras, but this portrait of them as a menace, promoted by a manipulative mainstream media, is drummed into the public mind.

Fortunately, the alternative media of the Internet was available to counter this BN propaganda and so their prudent stances and the good deeds of the Pakatan state governments could be highlighted to the people. Otherwise, the country would have been at the mercy of a well-connected few who pretend to be defenders of the Malays when it suits them while their children and cronies helped themselves to wealth they don't deserve. Under such a regime, what we call corruption, they call commission that runs into hundreds of millions,”

Hitting out further, he said “These pretenders to the role of protectors of the Malays also talked of defending Islam, while holding shares in companies that produced alcohol and promoted gambling.” It was also reported that making his way to the gathering was ‘delayed’ by 3 roadblocks by the police at Tapah, Simpang Pulai and Kuala Kangsar which caused him to arrive 2 hours late at the event at Taiping.

I want to help police probe claims by Zulkifli – Ezam

Ezam Mohd Nor, the former youth chief of PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) who has since left the opposition party and is with Umno said that he wants to assist the police investigations in the recent claims made by Zulkifli Noordin, the independent Member of Parliament of Kulim-Bandar Baharu who said that he was once promised ‘rewards’ to link the murder case of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

Ezam said that he is ready whenever the police needs him to assist in their probe. He said "It is a serious accusation but it did not surprise me because when I was with the PKR I had heard of the issue to link the PM and his wife, Rosmah Mansor, to the murder of the Mongolian woman, Altantuya Shaariibuu," Citing an instance once when he told someone involved to show proof of the allegations, the person told him to “Go and blare it out first.” Ezam said "I still remember those words from that person,"

Dr M: Prove Malays ‘grabbed’ non-Malay rights

Dr Mahathir addressing the Perkasa members this morning.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has asked for a comprehensive review to answer allegations that the Malays have stolen the country’s wealth and denied the rights of non-Malays.

The former Umno president said the government or any other agency should conduct the review to refute such allegations or perception.

“I ask that if people want to accuse, make accusations that have basis, don’t be unfair,” Dr Mahathir told those attending Malay rights movement Perkasa’s inaugural congress at the Putra World Trade Centre here.

“I am not racist, I love my country, we are not racists ... if we cannot be fair to the Malays, then we cannot be fair to other races,” said the country’s longest-serving prime minister from 1981 to 2003.

Repeating more than 10 times in a disappointed tone to “conduct a review, conduct a census”, Dr Mahathir said, “if I am wrong, prove it to me, prove it to others.”

Though his voice remained level, the 84-year-old still managed to stir the crowd into a frenzy when he remarked on how unfair it was for non-Malays to be allowed to call Malays “pendatang (immigrants)” and not vice versa.

Deputy minister for international trade and industry, Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir (middle) present for the event.

“If Malays call the others ‘pendatang’, we must apologise. If we flourish a keris, we must also apologise.

“But a keris as big as this can hardly be used to stab anyone, maybe for knocking someone on the head,” he quipped while gesturing to a five-foot long sheathed keris placed on the opposite end of the stage from him.

“The keris is our symbol. Do not call us racist merely for defending our rights,” Dr Mahathir added.

The appreciative crowd cheered him on.

The retired prime minister reminded the audience that the demands from the Malay community were based on the Federal Constitution which protected the rights and upheld the freedom of Malays, Muslims and not meant to strip away the rights of the other races and religious groups.

Hello YB Tun Dr M, we are saying that you and UMNO grabbed our tax money for your own UMNO putras use and misuse!!

I think you should stop getting yourself involve in politics. You have done enough. Most of us youngsters are tired of reading in the newspapers about Perkasa's antics, the differences in our rights and their rights when all of us are Malaysians. We know that as long as the older generation continues to flame the racists sentiments, it will continue onwards towards the new generation. I don't know why Ibrahim has to bring up May 13 again. Perhaps he did not really learn the lesson from that day.

The lesson for me is that everyone in Malaysia has to live as one and not being discriminated from one another. Acceptance rather than tolerance. How many times have I heard BN politicians said that but not practise it? Or rather it is only a mere sentence to be said in a speech made in a Chinese or Indian function that you attend?

you have always been shouting that the non Malays are stealing from the Malays. I think you should instead prove that and not try to turn the tables by arguing that the non Malays are to prove that the Malays grabbed their rights.

The non Malays have never argued that the Malays grabbed their rights. What they want is equality as citizens of their country of birth. They are not even arguing about special position of the Malays or affirmative actions for the deserving.

You think that we are that stupid not to see your tricks trying to engage us in an useless argument. Now ypu prove to the non malays that they are equal citizens of this country.

this is the guy who started all of this and here he is asking people to prove that they had done what they had done...non malays have no rights....all the rights are yours......all we want is a fair share only.....we could not possibly take anything from malays...cause umno is the one that is governing.....it is your people that have taken all away from everyone else....including the real bumiputras.....look at our indigenous community.....look at sabah and sarawak.....most places still no roads and water or electricity.....who governs these places.....umno and bn....who is taking who's rights away......

This senile Mahathir is the head of corruption and racist. If Ku Li was to replace him as prime minister, I’m very sure Malaysia will be better place now if not on par with Singapore. It is time for Mahathir to keep his mouth zip than shouting in Perkasa function. Please see the other article picture that Ibrahim Ali waving his Kris. It is very disgusting and racist to its core and why Mahathir support Ibrahim Ali’s act.
Mahathir, please stay at home and enjoy the rest of your remaining days with your children.

PKR moves quickly to woo Hulu Selangor voters

Anwar addressing the people yesterday with his trademark wit and charm

The battle for Hulu Selangor began last night with PKR sending its top leaders to promise equality and justice in a bid to keep a federal seat crucial to its dwindling numbers in Parliament.

PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made clear the party’s agenda in his speech — to retain Hulu Selangor and remind people why they had voted for the late Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Ahmad in the first place.

The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) MP death Thursday night has paved the way for the country’s 10th by-election since Election 2008.

“I’ve known the late Dr Zainal since his Universiti Malaya days... He was always fighting for the right cause, he knew what to fight for and never once wavered in his stand. Even when I was in prison he frequently enquired about my health, and on the principles of justice he joined PKR later on,” he told the 6,000-odd crowd in a “Save Malaysia” ceramah.

The crowd in stitches as they listen to Anway yesterday

“I have to apologise because the duration that Zainal was MP, he was in and out of hospital. That is why he could not attend Parliament,” said Anwar, referring to the 71-year-old politician who suffered from brain cancer.

He blamed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration for practicing two double standards in his 1 Malaysia sloganeering.

“This country has 2 Malaysia, on for the rich and one for the poor. Look at the Indians, look at how you have all been treated badly, see what happened to Kugan.”

“If we (PR) take over Putrajaya, there will equal opportunity for Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans, Melanau and Murut!” he exclaimed.

PR has now won seven out of the nine by-elections since Election 2008 but desperately needs to win Hulu Selangor after losing four lawmakers who now sit as independents since February.

Apart from Anwar, other party leaders there were deputy president Senator Dr. Syed Husin Ali, vice-president Azmin Ali and Sivarasa Rasiah, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and PKR strategic director Chua Tian Chang.

Anwar also introduced on stage two ex-Hindraf leaders, Vasantha Kumar and Ganapathy Rao who have since then joined PKR and DAP respectively, to attract the crowd in a seat with significant Indian minority.

Besides Anwar, other PKR leaders that briefly spoke were Azmin and Khalid.

The Selangor Mentri Besar reminded the crowd the reason they voted for PR in the first place.

“On March 8, 2008 you people gave PR a chance to rule Selangor and changed history. We are bringing lots of change and development, as promised to you all,’ said Khalid.

PRK vice-president Azmin Ali giving his take of the state of Hulu Selangor and its by-election.

He proceeded to explain the measures taken by the Selangor state to boost the welfare of people who live in the state.

“Has Umno, after running for 50 plus years, provided free water for the rakyat?have they? No. Umno has no stomach for this, it is something that PR has set out to accomplish,” he said, referring to how Selangor supplied water for free to all constituencies in the state.

Despite the fiery speeches by PKR leaders, the huge crowd remained nonchalant do say the least.

Questions on whether PKR plans to field an Indian candidate for the Hulu Selangor constituency arose, which saw reporters asking the PKR strategist Chua for information.

Chua, popularly known as Tian Chua, played down the issue and insisted that PKR would be dragged into playing the “quota ratio”.

“We have no luxury to do this quota game. In PKR, we are concerned about quality, not whether the person is Indian or Malay,” said Chua.
