Ibrahim Ali slips up on Blair ‘slipper’ protest

Datuk Ibrahim Ali boasted that thousands of slippers would greet Tony Blair if he set foot in Malaysia, but he only mustered less than 100 protesters at the “slipper protest” today.

His Malay rights group Perkasa joined a few other groups who did not want the former British prime minister to speak at a success seminar in Bandar Sunway here over his alleged war crimes.

The dismal showing did not seem to faze those gathered at an entrance to the Sunway Pyramid Mall. Chanting “Allahu akbar” and “Blair! Blair! B*****d!”, the protesters stepped on and burned flyers printed with Blair’s face.

They also threw slippers at a banner featuring the crossed-out faces of Blair, George W. Bush and the Star of David.

The group was mainly made up of young Malays, although a dozen or so Iraqi nationals were also present.

Mohamed Assadi, a protester, said Blair’s sponsors and even those who paid to listen to him share his guilt.

“Those who invited him, to listen to him, are criminals [who] are sharing with him... his crimes,” said the 40-year-old doctoral student.

“Anybody inviting him is sharing with him in his crimes against humanity, against Islam, against this Earth, against human beings. This man should be punished.”

Ibrahim, together with four other NGO representatives, were later allowed into the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa Convention Centre by the police to submit an “indictment” to the former British prime minister. The press were not allowed in with them.

The five emerged half-an-hour later only to inform the press that they were not able to meet with Blair.

“I am disappointed that I could not meet with Blair because security was very tight,” the independent Pasir Mas MP said.

“We did not know where in the building Blair is. Maybe in the toilet or the nooks of a cloth shop or hiding in some lift. We couldn’t find him.”

But he said they did meet with Blair’s representative and handed him with the document issued by the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal.

“When I met the representative, he said we cannot see Blair personally to submit this for security reasons.

“And I told the representative, Blair never thought of Iraqi people’s security. They just invade and bomb Iraq according to their wish, and now he’s talking about his personal security. So I said, ‘Go to b*****d with your Blair!’ That’s what I told them just now,” Ibrahim added.

The document details the judgement of the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission convened in 2008 by Perdana Global Peace Organisation (PGPO), headed by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“We hope this war tribunal paper will be submitted to him (Blair) and a copy will be sent to [the] British High Commission,” said the Perkasa chief.

“And we will keep distributing this war crimes tribunal paper to educate and to inform the whole world that Blair is a real, real, real, real war criminal. [He is] a most evil and cruel murderer who should not have been invited to Malaysia.”

Ibrahim also expressed his disappointment to the organisers and asked them why they did not invite another speaker instead.

“There are a lot of prominent speakers, prominent leaders, that you can invited in this world. Why you bring this bloody b*****d Blair who has killed thousands, millions of innocent Iraqi people?”

Ibrahim had earlier also taken a swipe at Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his links to former World Bank president, Paul Wolfowitz, who was also implicated in war crimes by the tribunal for leading the war effort.

He said that a Malaysian lawyer will submit a petition to the International Court of Justice for Blair to be indicted for war crimes.

However, he was quick to add that the anti-Blair NGOs had no problem with Britons or the present British government.

This is a real monkey of Malaysian politics

A disgrace to mankind - that's Ibrahim Katak.
Why did he not protest about BN's engagement with APCO?

This guy is a joker .
Please throw him out of his MP seat , regardless of races !
Show him the true colour of Malaysia....We are M'sian first

No mention of police permit and FRU.

It is nice to see the Polis upholding the Malaysian constitution's freedom to assemble to the point of allowing protesters to trespass on private property ("allowed into the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa Convention Centre by the police").
Though it is a shame it appears the constitution can only apply for BN supporters once again

what a disgrace to Malaysia by acting like a kampung boy taking his slippers hitting a poster ! He is just an old man who got nothing to do but jus wanted to create some entertainment for himself so that he can once again appear in the newspaper. Alamak, malu sangat pak cik. People are world renown and who are you? Just an idiotic old man.

Barbarians doing what barbarians does best. How does Ibrahim Ali expect anyone to take him seriously acting the way he does with his "Don't talk sh*t" on a widely viewed news channel to calling the ex-Prime Minister of UK names. Imagine when news break out about this little incident overseas or in Tony Blair's home country. Every Malaysian will be branded a barbarian.

No matter how much we disagree with the actions of others, there is always a civilized manner to deal with it.
