najib's "win at all cost" slogan......Pakatan mulls delaying Selangor polls due to new voter spike

Pakatan Rakyat (PR) wants to delay state polls in Selangor until the Election Commission (EC) cleans up the electoral roll in the PKR-controlled state which the federal opposition says has ballooned by 35 per cent or nearly half a million voters since Election 2008.

Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told a press conference that other PR states are still discussing their options but the coalition’s national leadership is suggesting that Selangor waits until the roll is clean.

“The issue is not the increase but fraud. We want a detailed explanation from the EC,” the PKR de facto leader said.

He claimed that the level of fraud in the state was the worst in Malaysia, a sign that Datuk Seri Najib Razak “has a phobia about not taking back Selangor.”

The former deputy prime minister claimed that there were 398,000 new voters registered since March 2008 and another 91,000 who have shifted to the state, a total increase of over one-third in four years.

Last month PKR was opposed to holding simultaneous polls in Selangor if the next general election is called by May or June, as party leaders believe it would be a better tactical strategy to garner more voter support.

PR won 36 out of a total of 56 state seats in Selangor in the last general election where PKR’s Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim replaced Umno’s Dr Mohd Khir Toyo as mentri besar.

A poll analysis recently found that the highest concentration of dubious voters was in Selangor, the country’s wealthiest state which Prime Minister Najib has pledged to take back “at all costs.”

Independent political analyst Ong Kian Ming said his Malaysian Electoral Roll Analysis Project (MERAP) showed the number of voters in Selangor had increased by over 340,000, or 21.8 per cent, to more than 1.9 million voters since the March 2008 general election compared to a national average of 16.3 per cent.

He singled out the marginal seat of Hulu Selangor, which has seen an increase of 17,000 voters, or a whopping 27.1 per cent, since the March 2008 general election.

The credibility of the electoral roll has been widely questioned since a Parliamentary Select Committee was set up late last year to look into electoral improvements.

The panel completed its six-month tenure and submitted its findings to Parliament last month but the opposition and civil society groups have criticised it for lacking specific recommendations on how to clean up the voter registry.

Electoral reform movement Bersih then announced it would hold a third rally for free and fair elections on April 28.

Prime Minister Najib had announced the formation of the bipartisan polls committee in August 2011, after being condemned in the international press for his administration’s clampdown on Bersih’s July 9 rally last year which drew tens of thousands to the streets of the capital.

The "roll fraud" is more believable.
Remember najib's "win at all cost" slogan?

Obviously, we cannot discount anything, simply because Selangor is too big a prize to lose. Frankly,it is best to find a way to verify the authenticity of the Selangor Rolls before going for elections. .

It will be just like Sabah in the early days where Mahathir's project NRIC stole the state from her rightful people. Remember when Najib said he will wrest Selangor from PR.

Yes, he already has his willing agents in place, the EC,NRD, Immigration Dept. & Home Ministry granting malaysian citizenship to immigrants & a vote bank. And this time, the inspiration of the whole country for a just, free and fair Malaysia waiting to be stolen away from right under the rakyat nose.

The EC should listen to the numerous complaints raised by NGOs and the Opposition. It is their duty to look into all complaints and not just sweep it under the carpet. Conducting an election with a tainted electoral Roll is most unfair. This only happens in countries like Zimbawe and Myamar. Even Myamar has started to move towards full democracy, while Malaysia is moving backwards. Shame on you leaders.

All States controlled by PR should delay polls. PR must go down hard and get the electoral roll cleaned up. Do not compromise. I am sure if the 4 States can do that BN will have no choice but not to call for an early election. Do not depend on EC to do the job. Best to set up a separate body with volunteers across the board and an international observer to verify and authenticate.

UMNOPORNO bad lawyer , Shafee attending law conference, not special assignment

A second letter surfaced today from Datuk Seri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah’s legal firm, this time claiming that the prominent Umno lawyer has to be in Sydney for a law conference this month, instead of the “sensitive legal assignment” commissioned by the prime minister and his wife.

The letter was raised today in the Court of Appeal during an appeal hearing in which Shafee was the appointed counsel.

According to the letter, Shafee’s firm had written on April 9 seeking to postpone today’s hearing, citing his participation in the law conference as reason.

“Please note that Dato’ Sri Dr. Muhammad Shafee Abdullah will be in Sydney for the Commonwealth Law Conference as a participant from 18th to the 22nd of April 2012,” the letter read.

However, that Shafee’s request for adjournment today was refused by Court of Appeal Justices Datuk Syed Ahmad Helmy Syed Ahmad, Datuk Clement Allan Skinner and Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahim.

The appeal subsequently proceeded and Shafee’s client’s appeal was argued by other lawyers and dismissed with costs.

But the dates stated in Shafee’s April 9 letter contradicts with the lawyer’s March 23 correspondence, also seeking adjournments, to Chief Justice Tan Sri Ariffin Zakaria, Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif and Chief Judge Malaya Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin.

In the March letter, first exposed in Parliament yesterday by PKR lawmaker Saifuddin Nasution, Shafee had sought for all his cases from April 1 to 25 to be vacated as he had to travel abroad for a “sensitive legal assignment”.

The “assignment”, according to the letter, was purportedly on orders from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, and entails travel across the globe to cities like New York, London, Dubai, Paris and Basel, in Switzerland.

The letter did not mention Shafee’s participation in the Sydney law conference.

It also did not specify the nature of the “legal assignment” but stressed that the mission “must be completed before the general election”.

When responding in the House yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz had said that Shafee may have “misrepresented” himself for stating in the letter that he was on assignment for the government.

The minister pointed out that the government cannot appoint a lawyer for the wife of the prime minister.

Today, PKR demanded Najib explain Shafees alleged “secret mission” abroad and asked if it was related to the ongoing Scorpene submarine sale probe by French authorities.

Recent media reports have pinned Najib to the RM7.3 billion Scorpene submarine deal by French authorities, which has also been linked to the brutal murder of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Altantuya’s alleged one-time lover Abdul Razak Baginda, said to be a close associate of Najib’s, was acquitted of a charge of abetting two Special Action Squad members — Azilah Hadri and Sirul Azhar Umar — to commit the 2006 murder.

Last week, Altantuya’s father Dr Setev Shaariibuu told a press conference in Petaling Jaya that he had offered himself as witness in the submarine probe, claiming that his testimony would be able to “connect the dots” between her death and the Scorpene case

Whatever trip to where or when... the whole thing stinks.
Does not gain respect from the Rakyat as he skips court case to attend to something personal...

I am not lawyer. Can Shaffie be charged for contemp of court for lying to the court

This is different from PI Bala's SD. Both the letters were referring to a different matter, it just happened to have 3 overlapping days. The 2nd letter does not negate the 1st letter and its assignment. The question still remain if najib and wife have engaged a lawyer to represent them on the Scorpene submarine issue or even lobby for the French to link his name to the investigation. If that is the case, it will only solidify his involvement in the scandal.

MALAYSIA does not need such crony lawyers to uphold JUSTICE...

No matter how one covers up a botch-up job, there will still be some tell-tale signs. Eventually, the truth will come out later, if not sooner. And the good will always triumph over evil.
