Book on Dr M finally hits Malaysia

The highly-anticipated book, Malaysian Maverick: Mahathir Mohamad in Turbulent Times is now available in local book stores. The book was selling like hot cakes in Singapore last December when it was still pending for release in Malaysia.

Written by Australian journalist Barry Wain, the book will be available on local bookshelves by early next week. The book alleged that the former premier squandered about RM100 billion during his tenure as the country's Prime Minister.

Mahathir said he was actually anticipating the release of the book and does not need any protection. The book was available in Britain since May last year. Following the publication of the book, opposition MP Lim Kit Siang called on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate the allegations in the book.

However, Najib declined to set up the Royal Commission of Inquiry as suggested as he deemed it was inappropriate to do so simply because of allegations in the book.
