BN has no cause for joy, warns PAS
PAS today admitted that Felda settlements remain impenetrable but warned Barisan Nasional (BN) not to celebrate too much its Hulu Selangor victory as polling data showed dropping support for the ruling coalition.
PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali noted BN won nearly 26,000 votes in the three state seats within Hulu Selangor in Election 2008 but dropped close to 2,000 in Sunday’s by-election.
PKR candidate Datuk Zaid Ibrahim lost to MIC’s P Kalamananthan by a 1,725 majority in the by-election, reversing PKR’s 198 vote majority in Election 2008.
“So BN victory is just a temporary victory,” Mustafa told a press conference at the party’s headquarters here.
Polling data showed BN had only regained half of the spoilt 1,461 votes from the last general election, which were said to be the result of protests by Umno supporters towards the Abdullah administration.
Discounting the gain of the 700-odd votes, along with some 600 postal votes, meant BN had received slightly more than 620 votes from the total majority won. This paled to the combined majority of 6,000 gained by BN in the three state seats within Hulu Selangor under the coalition’s control.
PKR also secured an extra 100 votes over its Election 2008 results.
“So there is no sign of a swing to BN. In fact, Malay support has waned. BN does not look too happy. It is a victory without happiness,” said Mustafa.
The PAS analysis also showed Felda settlements remained resistant to Pakatan Rakyat’ (PR) charms but it was compensated by rising Malay support outside the Umno bastion.
Mustafa said PR had only managed an inconsequential penetration into the Malay heartland and that Umno remained unshakeable there.
“This shows that anything that is under direct federal government control — like Felda and the Orang Asli settlements — remain BN’s vote-banks, and the urban or townships belong to PR,” concluded Mustafa
The closer voters were to the towns, the more likely they were to support PR, said Mustafa, noting Chinese support remained with them while BN kept Indian support in the estate areas.
His assessment was that “Hulu Selangor will become another Ijok”, where PKR’s Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim was first defeated by BN in the by-election but later won by a big majority in Election 2008.
PKR now controls the majority in the Selangor state assembly and Khalid is currently the state’s mentri besar.

At least we hear something very meaningful from this guy. So don't be so confident of yourself before thing can rebound to this PKR during the next GE again.
BN's so called victory did not even meet their own KPI. As usual the DPM is very quiet now.
