Give MACC chief prosecution powers

Share
Datuk Seri Radzi Sheikh Ahmad, the chairman of The Parliamentary Select Committee on Corruption sadi that they will be proposing to the prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak that the chief commissioner of the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) to be given prosecution powers because it will improve the image of the commission as well as help to regain the people’s confidence on the MACC. He said “This was necessary to regain the people’s confidence in the MACC besides improving the image of the commission.”

Radzi added that “We all know the MACC only has investigative powers while all prosecution comes under the jurisdiction of the Attorney-General. This has not sat well with the people and we are of the opinion that changes must be made to the Constitution to allow the chief commissioner to also prosecute cases. With the empowerment, MACC would be able to discharge its duties more efficiently and effectively.”
