Ibrahim: So what if I do business with the Chinese?

Share
Perkasa chief Datuk Ibrahim Ali said today he will continue to speak out against the dominance of the Chinese community in business despite being forced to acknowledge today that he was once a board member of a company controlled by Chinese tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan.

He told The Malaysian Insider that his opinions about the need for Malay economic interests to be protected was focussed on the macro-economy.

Ibrahim acknowledged being a board member in Dunham Bush (M) Bhd, a refrigeration and air-conditioning system manufacturer, when it was a listed company and controlled by Tan’s Berjaya Group. The company has since been taken private after a takeover by another company.

“So what? I am talking about macro economy and issues in a bigger picture...even if I did business with lots of Chinese friends and have Chinese partners,” Ibrahim told The Malaysian Insider in a text message.

“Is it wrong to say Vincent Tan got lots of benefits from the government even if I am his group CEO. Ha ha, I just want to prove a lot of big companies that belong to these types of groups got monopoly (over) businesses, subsidies and etc,” he added.

The independent Pasir Mas MP said that his position in the company when it was controlled by one of Malaysia’s most prominent Chinese businessman did not mean that he was wrong about the fact that the community dominated the economy.

Ibrahim’s Perkasa, a member of the Malay Consultative Council or MPM, is worried that the New Economic Model (NEM) will increase that dominance.

His position in Dunham Bush was raised by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin in his Malaysia-Today website. The website published the company’s 2003 annual report which showed Ibrahim as one of its directors.

According to the report, Ibrahim was appointed to the board on August 28, 2000. Ibrahim pointed out however that his views about the Chinese community were not wrong despite doing business with them.

“So don’t say get rid of little brothers and go ahead with brutal competition as said by Tan Sri Datuk Francis Yeoh of the YTL Group.”

Yeoh had reportedly said that Malays must do away with its “little brother mentality”, a description for the Malay protectionism practiced under the New Economic Policy.

Yeoh had reportedly urged Malaysia to practice “brutal competition” if it wanted to remain competitive.

The dog that bites the person who feeds it, should be shot. I'm sure Ibrahim Ali can find a suitable proverb in malay. He can laugh it off, but i'm remember this racist.

also Twin headed snake strikes!!!The latest attraction in M'sia after the notorious frogs!!!

The reason why Vincent Tan made him director because he can get contracts for Tan Sri at the expense of the Malays. Now the traitor of his own race wants to be the champion? What a bloody joke.

never seen a pathetic creature like this in my entire life.... he would just make 360 if he been offered a seat by DAP in the event his current antics would not secure him the MP seat the next GE... he is that cheap...

Does this Ibrahim Ali guy know what macroeconomics is? Since when the Chinese in Malaysia control government's fiscal policy, monetary policy, and using interest rates to regulate the economy? He is now putting his foot, leg and all deeper into his mouth.

He actually thinks that many individual companies put together becomes macro economy.

No wonder he cannot see problems beyond his iron crutches!

It is waste of time replying to this opportunist who benefits by becoming umno cronies director and now says protect malay rights. What actually he meant was protect malay rights by appointing unmo's nominees as chairman, Managing director etc to all the chinese controlled public listed companies! This is what unmo politician call malay rights. The real poor malays doesnt know what is happening but being hoodwinked to support perkasa.

This joker, just like his UMNO masters has no credibility and is good at twisting facts and words. Just like UMNO he has no hesitation using race and religion just to further his own selfish interest.

This is just like many UMNO leaders who slam those who don't send their kids to govt school bt are the first to send their child abroad.

Then again what can you expect from a racist party.

A wolf ( hypocrite ) in sheep ( Perkasa, MPM ) clothings.

What can you say about such a character?

Filling his own pockets is OK, but not the pockets of others, even though they work hard and diligently at that.

Fighting for the ordinary Malays seems to be his main objective, but could Perkasa do that? Isn't that the prerogative and duty of the government of the day? Could Perkasa be really bothered if the ordinary Malays are protected or get their fair share of the nation's riches?

Perkasa seems to an ideal platform for certain Malay individuals who are only interested to further their own interests and agendas. On the pretext of championing the interest of the ordinary Malays, they could hide behind that shield and enriching themselves while dishing out crumbs to their charges. The reason to set up a RM2 billion bank? What a clever scheme. What an old trick and gimmick.

Let's not fall into the hands and traps of such treacherous and scheming traitors! Malays or otherwise.
