Husni: No framework to protect Malays in NEM yet

Share
The New Economic Model (NEM) does not include any framework to protect Malay economic interests yet, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Husni Hanadzlah said today.

Husni said the framework would only be inserted after the NEM was revealed to the National Economic Advisory Council for inputs.

“Actually, there is still no formula for initiatives to protect Malay economic development in the NEM,” he told the press after attending an event here.

“But the NEM framework will be given to the NEAC, and then, it will be openly displayed so that everyone, every race and sectors, can give their inputs,” he said further.

Husni said that the government was still looking at developing the economy through “growth with equity” which meant that it would not neglect the interests of any race, particularly the Bumiputeras.

“We will not be leaving behind any races in the country’s development. That is why we are emphasising on the term growth with equity,” he said.

The NEM, a brainchild of the Najib administration, proposes to open up the economy and do away with Bumiputera quotas in several sectors as part of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s effort to steer the nation out of its “middle-income trap”.

But its proposal was met with “trepidation” by his own Cabinet and triggered a new Malay nationalist movement led by Perkasa, who were calling for the government to entrench Malay economic dominance, which they claimed was provided for under the Federal Constitution.

Perkasa later formed the Malay Consultative Council. Its first congregation last week resulted in a unanimous demand that government ensured the NEM protected Malay interests.

Husni took pains today to assure the public that the NEM would always strive to make sure that the Malays would not be forsaken in what he described as Malaysia’s “third wave” of economic thrust.

“This is the third wave. We came from an agricultural economy, to manufacturing so this is the third wave. The transformation to a high-income economy,” he said.

Husni did not reveal the details of the transformation, pleading for the public instead to wait for the announcement to be made by Najib at the end of this month. The prime minister had said that the NEM would be announced in stages and incorporated into the 10th Malaysia Plan

Huh? UMNO drafted the NEM which favor the Chinese and not the Malay?????
And then the UMNO guy cliams the Chinese is bullying the Malay?????
What is going on here?

Malays need protection from UMNO, not from anyone else. Best example: Kelantan and Terrenganu. They have a super-majority of Malays but were denied their constitutional right of oil royalties while governed by the Opposition.

Malays, along with every other community in Malaysia, can seek protection from Pakatan Rakyat.

I hope PR leaders make this clear.

Anything can be inserted (like Sodomy) to make NEM relevant to the malays, depending on the pressure from Perkasa and how loud Ibrahim ali can be.

Let's play a game.

1. Name 50 richest UMNOputra.
2. List down the businesses they have built with the own blood, sweat and tears.
3. Llist down the businesses that they acquired through tenders and direct negotiations or connections.
4. L ist down the methods on how they acquire all their riches.
