PM awards sports betting to Berjaya Group – Sin Chew

Local Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily reported that the prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has issued a football betting license to Berjaya Group. This came in the wake of some serious protests against the move by various religious and civil groups as well as those from the opposition front for legalizing sports gambling. The issuing of the license was seen as legalizing gambling which is widely perceived as a social ill in the country. Tony Pua, the national publicity secretary of DAP said that party is slamming the prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak of ‘cronyism’ for awarding the sports betting license to the chairman of Berjaya Group, Tan Sri Vincent Tan because he did not us an open tender process. He said that the awarding of the licence will result in the demise of the NEM (New Economic Model) where transparency is the promoted by the government.

He said “Malaysians are shocked because the Prime Minister has been harping on the new model of doing business in Malaysia and he has even promised Malaysians that he will no longer tolerate rent-seeking and patronage. Yet, just two months of its launch, Najib has sounded the death knell to his own NEM by thrashing it into the rubbish dump and awarding the most lucrative multi-billion concession of the year to a well-known associate of the Barisan Nasional top leadership, Vincent Tan. The practice of cronyism, rent-seeking and patronage to vested interest parties is continuing in broad daylight with complete endorsement by Najib. On what merit was Tan awarded this multi-billion gambling concession which will not only enrich him but impoverish the rakyat by encouraging more gambling?”

“The rakyat are angry because they are being taken for a ride by the Prime Minister who has promised many changes but he has instead shown that the Barisan Nasional government is completely incapable of change. The non-Muslim community are already extremely unhappy with the excessive number of ‘special draws’ by the existing gaming companies, including Berjaya Sports Toto. Now, we will only be faced with greater social problems,”

Contradictions are created by the government to allow betting and this does confuse the people with their religious beliefs.

Awarding to Berjaya, they should also buy 4 ekor for May 13. Nos to pick are 1369, 1305, to celebrate their postponment of the rally too. Ibrahim Ali should be organising this as a director of Sports Toto.

So the puppet master Mahathir is still pulling the strings.The TRUTH must out that the real owner of BERJAYA TOTO is Mahathir and not Vincent Tan.The man Vincent Tan is only a proxy for Mahathir.The PARIAH Mahathir will pay the price for misleading the Malays.
