PKFZ probe: Tiong’s assets frozen

Share
Police have frozen assets and properties belonging to Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB) chief executive Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, in the latest development of the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) saga.

The KDSB CEO was notified of the seizures yesterday, which were done as part of investigations into the PKFZ scandal. Tiong had been quizzed by the Commercial Crimes Investigations Department (CCID) last month over alleged irregularities in the development of the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) trans-shipment hub.

It is believed that police are going after Tiong’s assets — which includes a luxury private jet — using the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

Tiong, who is also Barisan Nasional Backbenchers chief, had previously claimed he made a RM10 million cash donation to MCA president and transport minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and was believed to be close to the MCA minister.

However, he began his attacks against Ong after the minister’s task force began blaming KDSB for the massive cost overruns faced by the PKFZ.

The Port Klang Authority (PKA) had lodged a report against KDSB and four other parties alleging a possible conspiracy to commit fraud in the development of the troubled transshipment hub.

PKA also says it has found RM1.4 billion in questionable claims made during the development of PKFZ and lodged a police report against KDSB and BTA Architect.

The free-trade zone project began as a joint venture between the Port Klang Authority and the promoters of the Jebel Ali Free Trade Zone in 1999 to attract foreign investments to the port.

The land from the project belonged to Kuala Dimensi, which acquired the property in the 1990s for RM96 million, or roughly RM3 per sq ft.

The land was subsequently sold to the Port Klang Authority in 2002 on a commercial basis, for RM1 billion, or roughly RM25 per sq ft, government documents show.

The port authority later awarded Kuala Dimensi sole rights to develop the free-trade zone, which has been hit by cost overruns and mismanagement.

We have enough Wayang Kulit from BN/UMNO. Another whitewash to show that they are taking action. The man should have charged and placed in lockup by now. Yet, he is still scot free. In the thinking of BN/UMNO, Malaysians must be blind and stupid

This is how we want our police to act. Fair but firm. And not sacred to take the necessary action when needed.

Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinni. You do not need a study on how to improve public perception of the police. Continue doing this and public perception will improve.

but....Only frozen the developer is useless. The actual person such as politician that involves is outside the bribery.
