Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu, the MIC President who celebrated his 73rd birthday on Monday said that his birthday wish is to have the BN (Barisan Nasional) to ‘win big’ in the next general election after its huge defeat in the March 8, 2008 edition. He said "I want BN to win with a bigger majority in the next general election,"

He said tthat “It was possible for the BN to secure a "big victory" in the next general election, judging from the "excellent performance" of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. Since the last general election exactly two years ago, on March 8, 2008, the MIC had worked hard to regain the support of the Indian community. We have carried out reforms and transformed the party to be more people-oriented. I want the younger leaders to take the lead. They must be given the opportunity,"
