Umno says Pakatan government in Selangor is ‘worse than BN’

Share

Umno has accused the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Administration in Selangor of being “worse than BN” in practising cronyism and had clearly mismanaged public funds in the state development corporation (PKNS) and Yayasan Selangor.

“He [Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim] says that he is the best Selangor menteri besar,” said Selangor opposition chief Datuk Seri Dr Khir Toyo (picture), who was the previous Mentri Besar in the Barisan Nasional (BN) Administration..

“But if he is the best Menteri Besar, I think that his Administration should not waste money like this,” he told I

Khalid Ibrahim was forced this week to deny his Administration was involved in spending an exorbitant amount for a Yayasan Selangor luncheon to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The luncheon was scheduled for yesterday but was cancelled after the Selangor Sultan snubbed it over its exorbitant cost.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has started investigations into Yayasan Selangor’s extravagant celebration.

Other allegations against Yayasan Selangor reportedly include the purchase of luxury cars, a RM170,000 buka puasa function; RM200,000 for clothes, RM320,000 on a Hari Raya event, and the closure of the Yayasan Selangor Skills Institute in Bagan Terap, Sabak Bernam due to insufficient funds.

On Friday, state secretary Datuk Ramli Mahmud said the Sultan of Selangor was told that Khalid, who is the Yayasan Selangor chairman, was not told of the event’s costs.

Today, Dr Khir also accused Khalid of being two-faced in his promises of transparency.

“I don’t think he (Khalid) is practising transparency in Selangor because he is not revealing everything, like all the wrongdoing by Yayasan Selangor and PKNS,” said Dr Khir.

“He talks about doing something but he does a different thing. He is very clever in public relations,” he added.

Dr Khir further lambasted Khalid for his refusal to reveal the state exco papers or giving of contracts, despite tabling a Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.

“If he says there is freedom of information, why is he practising the Official Secrets Act (OSA)? The exco papers and giving of contracts are under the OSA and cannot be revealed,” said Dr Khir.

The Umno man also accused Khalid of practising cronyism by appointing personal contacts to head state subsidiaries like PKNS, Yayasan Selangor, state-owned sand mining subsidiary Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) and the Selangor Agriculture Development Corporation (PKPS).

“He appoints cronies in high positions...like Yayasan. In KSSB, (former adviser) Datuk Anwar Md Nor is his friend. In PKPS, the general manager Haji Ali (Ahmad) is also his crony,” said Dr Khir.

Selangor Umno deputy chairman Datuk Noh Omar said that the recent allegations of mismanagement of funds and cronyism against state subsidiaries revealed PR’s hypocrisy in managing the country’s wealthiest state.

“They (PR) did not fulfill their promises to practise transparency and avoid wastage for the people. They are worse than BN,” Noh told The Malaysian Insider today.

“They do not mean what they say and they do not say what they mean,” he added, using the Malay proverb ‘bikin tak serupa cakap, cakap tak serupa bikin’.

The agriculture and agro-based industry minister pointed out that complaints of public wastage and cronyism had cropped up in Khalid’s administration in just two years.

“BN’s administration (of Selangor) has been over 50 years. Mistakes are sure to happen,” said Noh.

“But, (PR) has administered Selangor for only two years. In just two years, there are all sorts of problems,” he added.

Allegations of cronyism and mismanagement of funds have recently surfaced against state subsidiaries like the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and Yayasan Selangor.

Last week, Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib claimed that the PKNS management had appointed personal contacts to lead PKNS subsidiaries, and that the corporation had funded a RM520,000 wedding dinner for Malaysian astronaut Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor last month.

State executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar, however, defended Khalid’s administration by highlighting the state’s actions to address such allegations.

“It is transparent in the sense that we are reacting to complaints by the public. We are reacting to complaints of misappropriation of funds and allegations of overspending as far as these GLCs (government-linked companies) are concerned,” said Dr Xavier.

I can't believe that this bugger and his crony had the cheek to say what they are claiming. They are like a pack of Hyenas telling the herd of antelopes not to worry as they are vegetarians.

By saying that PR is "worse" than BN, in effect the UMNO men, by their own admission, are telling us that Selangor under BN-UMNO was indeed BAD.

We were not wrong in our judgement. That BN-UMNO was bad.

Now, let's do some comparison:

(1) The former BN Menteri Besar and some of his EXCO Members can afford to build Million Dollar mansions based on their existing salary and allowance (including the famous palace in Pandamaran, Klang). Tan Sri Khalid already has his mansion build based on his salary from his job as the former CEO of Kumpulan Guthrie. Theresa Kok still stays in a double storey terrace house with her parents in Jalan Ipoh.
(2) The former BN Menteri Besar made many "Lawatan Sambil Belajar" to places like the Disneyland in Florida with his entire family AND the maid.
(3) The previous BN State Govt built a millon dollar EXCO Village in Shah Alam but the EXCO members don't stay in it . Their family or relative do.

The above are only some examples of how "good" the previous BN Govt in Selangor was !!
