BN: Enhanced health service for Sarawakians next year

Share
Beginning next year, two hospitals, each costing RM300 million each, will be built in Sarawak to further enhance health facilities.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the hospitals would be set up at Petrajaya in Kuching, and Limbang, under the first rolling plan of the 10th Malaysia Plan.

He said the two hospitals would be part of several new strategies to give a booster shot in the arm for Sarawak’s health facilities.

Liow was speaking to Bernama after visiting a site for a temporary clinic at Nanga Kemalih, about three hours drive from here today.

He said the ministry would also upgrade rural clinics and increase the number of medical assistants and nurses.

“For bigger hospitals like those in Lawas, Sarikei, Sibu and Kapit, the ministry would send the relevant specialists.

“It is very important that we solve congestion at, for instance, in Sibu which always receives referred cases from Sarikei, Kapit, Mukah and Betong hosipitals.

“We will engage 58 foreign specialists next year from Egypt, Pakistan and India. They are good doctors as we applied through their goverments for them, instead of getting them through advertisements,” added Liow.

On the shortage of ordinary doctors, he said, the problem would soon be addressed as the country was now training about 3,500 doctors annually, from the previous 700.

Liow, accompanied by Deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang and senior officers from the health ministry and state health department, had earlier visited the Sarikei and Betong hospitals. — Bernama

Why always 'next year', 'after the next elections'/ And by the time we get there they always conveniently 'forget' all the empty promises that they made before the elections.
The world doesn't work like that anymore guys! With all the money that 'clepto Taib' and his cronies have stolen from Sarawak there could have been universal healthcare 20 years ago already.
