Sports betting should be legalized – Dr M

Share
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the former prime minister gave his opinion about the current sports betting license issue where he said that he is in support of the government awarding the license because it will regulate the industry which is currently run by underground syndicates and hence he does not object to it. He said “With our without a licence, there is a lot of betting going on in this country. The Chinese like to gamble,”

He was at the Melayu Bangkit rally in Kuala Terengganu where he added that “Without licensing, there is no way to regulate (sports gambling). The licence would stipulate that sports betting is limited to non-Muslims. As such, Muslims would be deterred from taking part because it will be illegal for them to do so. If a Malay is caught gambling, tangkaplah (arrest him),”

mahathir supports legal sports betting as a means to curb illegal bookies, but two wrongs do not make a right.those who are already betting thru illegal bookies will probably continue to do so while those without these avenue will start sports gambling thru these legal outlets. is our former pm trying to encourage awhole new generation of gamblers? totally immoral!
