Umno not using government agencies to fund ‘Juara Rakyat’ programme

Datuk Ahmad Maslan, the Information Chief of Umno has quashed claims that the party is misusing government agencies to fund a ‘Juara Rakyat’ programme. The claims were made by the opposition party and Ahmad said that there is no such instance and they would just ‘turn a deaf ear’ to the allegations. The ‘Juara Rakyat’ programme essentially is meant for all the government agencies to implement their responsibilities to foster ties with the people. He said "In this programme, Umno acts as the facilitator by inviting the various government agencies to provide counter services to handle the people's complaints and problems. We also invite all levels of society regardless of political ideology, background or race. As such, the question of misuse does not arise. The next general election is due only in two or three years from now while the Juara Rakyat programme will only run this year. It has nothing to do with any attempt to garner votes,"

He added that “The programme, which carried a different theme each month, would also involve Umno Youth, Wanita Umno and Puteri Umno. This means that each (party) division will have four "foster families", made up of Umno, Wanita Umno, Umno Youth and Puteri Umno. This is a new element which we have incorporated to make the programme more effective. These ‘foster families’ would be the link between the people and the party leadership, and would convey all the people's problems.”
