The prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has showered praise for everyone involved in the recent Ops Piramid which is a rescue mission to evacuate the students and Malaysians stranded in Egypt in light of the recent demonstrations and protests there. He said that the mission was a success and everyone had rallied behind the cause irrespective of their race and religion and this was the very spirit of 1Malaysia.
He said “The Government decided that whatever the circumstances, we would launch a mission to rescue all Malaysians there. There was no political interest, as long as they were our people, our mission was to save them. Deputy Foreign Minister A. Kohilan Pillay risked his life to see that Malaysians were evacuated safely while his colleague Datuk Richard Riot Jaem helped out from Wisma Putra. We are also touched with the commitment given by (AirAsia group chief executive officer Datuk Seri) Tony Fernandes to fly the students out of Egypt and back to Malaysia. Everyone, no matter what their religion and race, was concerned about the safety of their fellow Malaysians and wanted to do their bit to help. This is truly the 1Malaysia spirit,”
