Police have started investigations into claims by Perak DAP chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham that there were too many police officers when the Perak state legislative assembly was in session on Tuesday and yesterday.
Perak Police Chief Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said two police reports were received from the public, urging the police to investigate Ngeh for his claims that were published in a local Malay daily Utusan Malaysia and a local TV station, TV3.
“We have started investigations and those involved will be called to give their statements,” he said in statement today.
Zulkfili said the presence of the police was due to a request made by Speaker Datuk R. Ganesan to ensure the safety and public order in the Dewan, since there had been previous incidents.
“Police were not inside the Dewan but merely outside the Dewan and the state secretariat building compound,” he said.
Yesterday, Federal Police Chief Tan Sri Musa Hassan said Ngeh’s claims that ‘police may shoot at opposition lawmakers because they disliked them’, as irresponsible and said with bad intentions.
Ngeh who protested the presence of a large number of police officers at the Perak Darul Ridzuan building during the Perak legislative assembly on Tuesday yesterday, had questioned the motive of their presence.
He was quoted as saying: “I am afraid that tomorrow if there is a debate and they do not like what we say, they can take out their guns and shoot us dead. This can happen because they may not like us.” — Bernama
