PM’s wife can fully claim for oversea trips, accommodation, clothing, no fixed allocations

Share
The prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak clarified in parliament that the government does not impose any sort of fixed allocation for the wife of the prime minister or any type of annual allocation for her overseas trips. He was replying to Liew Chin Tong, the DAP Member of Parliament of Bukit Bendera who wanted to know the number of permanent and contract staff and the fixed allocation and allocation for oversea trips and any other type of benefits for the prime minister’s wife in the last 10 years.

Najib said that “The wife of the prime minister was eligible to receive and make claims for certain expenses like on food, accommodation and warm clothing. This is stipulated in the Members of Parliament (Remuneration) Act 1980 (Act 237) on the allowances and privileges for the prime minister. The Act states that the prime minister’s wife who accompanies him on official trips or goes on her own official trips within the country or overseas is eligible to receive or make claims for food, accommodation, subsistence and warm clothing allowance.”

He also said that “There were no permanent or contract staff provided specially for the prime minister’s wife as officers from the Prime’s Minister’s Office from time to time assisted the prime minister’s wife in performing her official duties”

Rosmah is forever going to be around to support her husband Nagib. If Nagib becomes sick and cannot perform, Rosmah is always there and can always take over as the first woman PM in Malaysia.
