I did nothing wrong - ‘Doa’ recital sermon reader

Share
Zakaria Ahmad, the khatib or sermon reader who came into the spotlight recently for having used the name of the Chief Minister of Penang Lim Guan Eng instead of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong during the ‘doa’ recital after the Friday prayers is adamant of his action and defending what he did, stating that in the eyes of Islam, it was not wrong although he admitted that the place and time of the recital might not be too appropriate.

He said “God willing, after this, I will say such a ‘doa’ at other occasions and places which are more suitable.” Meanwhile, Elias Zakarai, the president of the MAIPP (Penang Islamic Religious Council) said that the explanation provided by Zakaria was satisfactory and that “As for now, no action would be taken against Zakaria as he agreed not to repeat his action. We had informed Zakaria on the uneasiness felt and the implications of his action. He admitted committing it, promised not to do it again and would even publicly explain the matter for the good of all quarters,”
