Gold dealer claimed he was robbed jewelries worth RM900,000 in Miri

A middle-aged gold dealer claimed that he was attacked and robbed RM900,000 jewelries by a group of armed robbers on the eve of Christmas while he was on the way from Bintulu to Miri. The man claimed that the robbery occurred along Miri-Bintulu sectio or more commonly known as 'Highway of Fear'.

Subsequently after the robbery, the gold dealer lodged a police report in Miri central police station. According to the victim, he claimed that the group of armed robbers tailed his taxi before hijacking it along the highway somewhere near Batu Niah tourist town. He said the robbers smashed the windows of the cab when both him and the driver refused to open the doors.

The robbers successfully robbed his suitcase and sped away. According to source, the dealer was supposed to deliver the goods to buyers in Miri and Bintulu. The man, whose headquarters is in Selangor claimed that he has arrived in Miri few days earlier.

Meanwhile, Miri OCPD Asst Comm Jamaluddin Ibrahim said the police station have received report from the gold dealer. Authorities are trying to find out what makes the dealer traveled without a companion while carrying valuable jewelries. In addition to that, police are also trying to find out why the man failed to inform police prior to his trip, where and how he obtained such products.

So far, this is the second armed robbery case occurred in northern Sarawak. Previously, another gold dealer from Kuala Lumpur has also claimed that he was robbed RM800,000 of gold bars in Miri.
