project saved the family cow minister....MACC raids seizes desktop PC, documents from NFC office

Anti-graft officers raided the National Feedlot Corporation’s (NFCorp) headquarters today in connection with the alleged abuse of federal funds by its management.

At least five Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers were seen entering the offices of NFCorp at Solaris Mont Kiara here at 2.55pm.

NFCorp runs the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) in Gemas, which has been at the centre of a storm of controversy ever since the Auditor-General highlighted the publicly-funded cattle raising project as “a mess” in his report this year.

It is headed by Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Salleh Ismail, husband to Women, Family and Community Minister and Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil. Their children are also directors in the company.

Today’s raid follows an announcement by MACC yesterday that it would investigate allegations the NFC had misappropriated government funds, despite previously saying it would not probe the matter.

The national anti-graft body had earlier referred the case to the police, who are now conducting an investigation into possible criminal breach of trust.

The MACC also confirmed yesterday it had remanded a businessman, said to be a Datuk, for questioning in relation to the case.

The 45-year-old suspect had earlier been detained by police for allegedly trying to bribe senior CCID officers believed to be involved in the NFC probe.

Following a series of exposés on the scandal-hit NFC project, PKR renewed demands earlier this week for the MACC to investigate the scheme for alleged financial abuse.

The opposition party first latched onto the issue after the RM250 million federally-funded cattle project made it into the pages of this year’s Auditor-General’s Report for failing badly to meet production targets.

PKR has since made several revelations relating to the scandal, including NFC’s purchase of two multi-million ringgit condominium units in Bangsar and the alleged use of project funds to finance Shahrizat and her family’s personal expenses and trips abroad.

It also claimed there was a transfer of resources to unrelated companies in Singapore, as well as the purchase a Mercedes-Benz CLS350 for RM534,622 and two plots of land in Putrajaya’s Precinct 10 for RM3,363,507.

The latest disclosure by PKR, made on Tuesday, further alleged that some RM10 million had been diverted towards the purchase of a luxury condominium unit in Singapore for Shahrizat’s family.

Shahrizat has sought to deflect away attention by stating she was “only the wife” of the national cattle farming project’s chairman and had nothing to do with the NFC.

The senator has faced calls to quit as minister from within Umno, including from influential former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers carted away a desktop computer’s central processing unit (CPU) and four documents from the National Feedlot Corporation’s (NFC) office here at the end of their raid today.

Supt Wan Abdul Rahman Wan Mohd Salleh, along with seven other officers from Putrajaya MACC, left the offices of the scandal-hit company at Solaris Mont Kiara here at 4.50pm after questioning staff for two hours.

Why so many media there? Have they been waiting at the NFC office all this time, or were they called to come down by the MACC officers?

Earlier call for MACC to act on NFC, they wash their hands and pass the buck to the PDRM and the PDRM said no CBT. Now after opposition started pointing more evidence NFC, MACC raided the NFC office. Why this MACC is clowning around? It shows MACC is not independent body they are under UMNO’s orders to charge or not charge.

Actually the first offices should be raided are ministers' offices. You don't have to be a genius to know this NFC project involving such huge amount of rakyat's money should never have been awarded to an inexperienced company run by minister's family members.

Who were the ministers involved in approving the project? They must be brought to book.

And what about the so-called tight condition and monitoring for disbursement of funds in stages after proof of project progress as mentioned by Noh? How can the minister in charge of monitoring fund disbursement allow rakyat's money to be used for purchases of multiple luxury condos, luxury car and to fund minister's family privately owned companies in Malaysia & Singapore? This minister must also face the music.

Rakyat is waiting for MACC to act according to its responsibilities. And rakyat do not have anymore patience in this case.

I'm sure this case will be another loss case just like Teoh Beng Hock. With MACC only taking action now after so long since it's been revealed by opposition. I'm sure all the files and documents already destroy or amend by now.

It is hard to believe and trust MACC on how they handle these cases after what happened to Teoh case. What they are doing now is just a show.

Looks like BN just treat us like puppet and fools on how they played us out all this while.

and dont forget...

we must sympathise the cows. Due to the warm weather in Malaysia throughout the year, I have to put them up in air-conditioned condos. As transport cost is high, what better way than to store them up in the singapore apartment. Too much travelling to the abatoir is inhuman. the cows need proper rest before being slaughtered. I Malaysia 1 NFC

another laughing stock from UMNO/BN ....!!!!
