MCA ‘cowards’ for silence over Umno’s racial threats

Share

The MCA are cowards for not speaking up against the divisive racial threats by its Barisan Nasional (BN) senior partner Umno, Selangor DAP chairman Teresa Kok said today.

The Seputeh MP continued her party’s war of words against MCA, saying it should stop accusing the opposition party of fanning racial sentiments among the Chinese as MCA leaders lacked the moral courage to criticise Umno, Utusan Malaysia and Perkasa when the occasion called for it.

“MCA should rename itself the Malaysian Cowards Association for consistently being too chicken to stand up to the divisive racial threats of UMNO, Utusan Malaysia and Perkasa.

“Time and time again, MCA leaders have been too yellow livered to stand up for the interests of the Chinese whom they claim to represent, for fear of hurting their personal political careers,” said Kok in a statement today.

Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia claimed yesterday that the DAP was conspiring with Christian leaders to take over Putrajaya and abolish Islam as the country’s official religion.

The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) party has denied this and has lodged a police report today over the matter.

Kok also blamed MCA’s “spinelessness” which led the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party to lose badly in the last general elections.

She accused MCA of using the DAP as a scapegoat to hide the party’s own “internal failings.”

The DAP’s success in winning 12 out of 15 seats contested in the Sarawak state elections proved that it had won not only the support of the Chinese, but the Iban community as well, Kok stated.

“I urge MCA leaders to evolve beyond their selfish for-Chinese-only mentality, withdraw from BN’s race-based politics and work for the interests of all Malaysians, regardless of their ethnic make-up.

“Until MCA leaders find the moral courage in which to do this, it is fitting that they rename themselves the Malaysian Cowards Association that they are widely perceived to be,” she added.

Umno-owned Utusan carried a front-page article yesterday titled “Malaysia, a Christian country?” (Malaysia, negara Kristian?) based entirely on blog postings by several pro-Umno bloggers.

The bloggers had charged the DAP with sedition for allegedly trying to change the country’s laws to allow a Christian assume the office of prime minister, pointing to a grainy photograph showing what they described as a secret pact between the opposition party and pastors at a hotel in Penang on Wednesday.

Yes coward indeed.....where is MCA when the rakyat need representatives to speak the truth and distort lies from Utusan/UMNO? MCA using DAP as scapegoat and UMNO using Christians and Chinese as scapegoat to gain support. So sickening and shameless. This is one of the many reasons why we are so fedup wth parties in BN. Can u get it MCA?
