Director: Suspend probes involving politics

Share
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director of investigations has suggested that all investigations involving politics be suspended temporarily with immediate effect.

In a fit of frustration, Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdull said he felt that certain quarters were out to tarnish MACC’s image by making vicious and unfoun-ded allegations against the commission, especially against his officers.

“The very people who talk about wanting to fight corruption themselves are creating all the problems.

“Their action in barring their employees from assisting us or coming to the MACC office as well as announcing to the world their people are being investigated and highlighting them in the media is hampering our investigations,’’ he said.

Mohd Shukri claimed that whatever the MACC did was not right in the eyes of certain political parties who kept on accusing the MACC of conspiring with the Government or were being biased and selective in their investigation.

The latest trend of bringing in the media was very worrying as it put additional pressure on the witnesses or suspects, he said.

“When we arrest members from the ruling Government, including ministers, MPs, state assemblymen or businessmen, we don’t see them making a scene or creating a ruckus.”

His suggestion for a stop to all investigation on politically-related cases would mean that the probe on the Port Klang Free Zone controversy would be halted, too.

MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Abu Kassim Mohamed said he understood Mohd Shukri’s frustration.

He said investigating corruption cases required discreet and in-depth work and most importantly the cooperation of witnesses.

“We want to combat corruption and if law makers themselves start creating a scene and make unfounded allegations against us, including labelling us racists, then how are we to perform effectively?”

“Our job is to curb and combat corruption and we will continue to do so regardless of the allegations hurled against us.

“To me it is part and parcel of our daily job hazard and we will not let such allegations break or dampen our spirit as we have been entrusted to carry out our job professionally,” he added.

An MACC advisory panel member said it was working under intense pressure.

He said the MACC was under-staffed and under-equipped but overloaded with cases.

Yes suspend so that no need to investigate PKF, Toyol etc.

Who wants to cooperate when friendly cooperative witness died under MACC custody?

Can MACC guarantee the safety of the witness or suspect? If MACC cannot offer the guarantee then everyone should be given the opportunity to protect themselves.

Just admit you have come to a dead end. Your frustration clearly shows your guilt in the one-sided persecution of opposition parties. You will have nowhere to run with the ever growing well informed raakyat. Don't just suspend the probes. Go after all those who have wronged, including those from Umno/BN.

As long as the twin brothers PDRM and MACC are not following their SOP then they
should be closed down temporary until a new set of new reliable men take over. The current twin brothers are going above their SOP and they think they are all mighty.

ICAC in HongKong approach people very friendly. They officer will identify themself first with ID, then"We are here to invite you to have a coffee at our office?"Will you turn down this kind of offer?MACC version: Not even a dress code and no ID were seen.
Ok, why none of the interview were video recorded?
May be someone have something to hide! Or the budget for the video recorder didn't make it too? just like those cctv that should be installed in MACC office.

"The very people who talk about wanting to fight corruption themselves are creating all the problems"?!!

Are you not talking about yourself and the agency that you're serving, Shukri? So that's the excuse you're giving to stop the PKFZ scandal investigation. A supposedly RM2,400 misappropriation by S'gor exco for a RM12.5 BILLION by mca/umno/bn.

$12.5 billion small kah, why scared kah, rice bowl down the drain, your head where oh..busy watch his son DVD kah.....

Cow and $2,400-00 ver fast.....people out the window and push peole down.....but the PKFZ " three MACC officers went to Tiong’s office here on Thursday at 2pm and grilled him for more than four hours. His lawyers were also present as Tiong had been given notice of the MACC’s arrival.

Wah UMNO related you give notice, very nice of you MACC...this is waht happen to DAP's Wong "What would a rational person do if they were grabbed by a group of unidentified individuals? "

Notice the difference......MACC how about OTK free filght, why is he paying from his won pocket......? A $10 million question?

If there's anybody who can help MACC in the war against corruption is the oppositions and the activist. Would the ruling power help the MACC to nab its own members? No way. And Sukri is treating the oppositions and activists as if they are his sworn enemies.

It is obvious that Sukri is making this statement because the bye-election of Permatang Pasir is around the corner. No way he can make this high handed statement himself undermining his boss without the instructions of people higher up than his boss. He could even be eyeing the top position himself realising the end of his boss is neigh when the Royal Commission inquiry starts after TBH's case.

This Sukri guy is trying to lap up his masters showing he can be depended upon when he sits the top chair! He has proven himself that he can lie for his masters saying that TBH was released after the interrogation, that he jumped out of the 9th floor, etc which all weren't true at all!
