Baharuddin kin gives Putrajaya week to probe death

Share

The family of the late Baharuddin Ahmad yesterday set a seven-day deadline for Putrajaya to investigate his death at the July 9 Bersih rally.

“We ask and hope that witnesses, who were there and knew what really happened on that day that caused his death, to come forward and help us find truth and justice,” Baharuddin’s widow, Rosni Melan, told reporters today.

“We made a police report yesterday and request for special investigation proceedings on his death within seven days from the date of the report,” added the Setiawangsa PKR Wanita chief.

The 55-year-old said the family will take legal action if Putrajaya fails to do so.

Rosni refused to comment on the police’s move to set up an independent team to investigate her husband’s death.

City CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said on Saturday that three police teams will investigate Baharuddin’s death along with claims by Tung Shin Hospital specialists that tear gas and water cannons were fired into the city hospital during the electoral reforms rally.

Baharuddin, 56, died at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on July 9 after he collapsed near KLCC while running away from police tear gas and water cannon bombardment.

A group of activists and PKR lawmakers previously sent a protest note to the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters over the man’s death.

Ku also said the independent teams will probe allegations of police brutality.

Make it compulsory for police personnels to have their identification number printed in large font so that they will be easily identified when in crowd control situations. Recent YouTube Bersih rally shown so many instances the police have subtle ways to hurt the handcuffed rakyat. No place for these uniformed rascals in the police force
