Second submarine expected to arrive in June

According to the country’s navy’s Submarine Commander First Admiral Mohammad Rosland Omar, the second Scorpene submarine is set to arrive in early June. He said that currently, the KD Tun Abdul Razak is undergoing the second phase of testing in Spain waters off Cartanega and would be completed by March. More personnel would be trained to man the two submarines to meet the navy’s future needs.” KD Tun Abdul Razak is the second submarine which will arrive following last September’s arrival of KD Tunku Abdul Rahman, the country’s first.

what a waste of rakyat's money! Probably they will come out with something ridiculous such as submarine rides for the "orang besar" again as a form of apple polishing.

While we, the rakyat Malaysia are suffering all the goods/food price inflation like rice and sugar etc. & Milo is expecting to raise 10% start from next month, petrol oil and toll fees are also expecting to raise this coming May, our gvt declare to spend and waste all these money to buy all these submarines. FOR WHAT???

While we are suffering in deep in recent economic, what did the Federal Gvt do to help the poor, instead of saying that we gvt do not have money to subsidise the sugar, rice and petrol & toll, the money are being spend to buy these submarines. WHAT ALL THESE MORON MINISTERS DOING TO HELP THE COUNTRY....!!!

THESE MORON HELP WITH .....ANOTHER COMMISSION BEEN PAID FOR BN ELITE MEMBERS AND CRONIES.

and ....Most likely our taxes such as credit cards and GST goes to the submarine.

Proud to introduce that this coming sub-marine has been installed with the world 1st sub-marine using JET ENGINE. The engine which lost in TUDM are now in this sub-marine. 1MALASia BOLEH!!!

Just another new toy for TLDM people! Play around, get to know how it works, then learn to dismantle it and then one day its engine will end up in TIMBUKTU just like the TUDM jets!

Are we threatened in any way from some other countries? Have I missed something? Waste of money badly needed somewhere else. Nice pocket lining for some ppl!

ha ha ha ha ha...........The submarine will be used by Najib to smuggle Ringgit out of the country.

Office of lawyers representing The Herald case broken into, police call on all not to speculate

In a somewhat related incident to the series of attacks on churches, a non-religious office have come under attack following the series of incidents involving churches and a Sikh temple in temple. The lawyer representing the Catholic Church in the appeal case for the use of the ‘Allah’ word in The Herald has had their office broken into and ransacked. The office, belonging to Derek Fernandez and S Selvarajah was found all messed up when a staff of the company turned up to work on Thursday finding the files scattered all over the place. There was no report of losses of documents related to the case though but a laptop and some other files have been reported missing. The staff member said “The grille was wide open and I thought my colleague had reported early. But then I noticed the wooden door had been forced open and I knew something was not right and immediately called my boss, lawyer Mr S. Selverajah,”

Selvarajah said “I believe it is linked to the Herald case although it looks like a normal burglary. All that is missing are some petty cash, a laptop and several files,”

The State Chief Police Officer Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar however called on the public not to speculate on whether this case is linked to the church attacks and that the police will investigate before giving more information. He said “There is no sign of forced entry from outside the building and we will question those working in the office as well as those in nearby offices to see if they know or heard anything. Please do not speculate and say that the incident is linked to the on-going court case until we are certain so as not to create any unnecessary tension,”

If I am the judge, he is NOT GUILTY. He is just making fun of himself. If he is one of the culprit, then congratulation PDRM, but the PDRM should trace where the other groups are hiding. You catch the witness but not the real culprit. He is just a scapegoat. Well, lets hear whether he confessed or NOT.

We will not hesitate to arrest you – Police tells Guan Eng

The Selangor Police Chief, Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar has issued a stern warning to Lim Guan Eng, the Chief Minister of Penang saying that they will not think twice about arresting him if he still refuses to give his statement on a claim that he allegedly used seditious remarks when he claimed that Teoh Beng Hock was murdered. Abu Bakar said “A police team, including the investigating officer from Shah Alam, was sent to Penang on Saturday to record his statement but he had refused to co-operate.

He demanded for the police report to be given to him first and ultimately no statement was recorded. Understanding his position and busy schedule as a chief minister, we made it more convenient for him to have his statement recorded in Penang but he continues to complicate the matter. I, too, have to carry out my duty as there is a police report lodged against him, forcing me to issue a notice under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code to compel him to issue a statement,”

MACC to make public findings of high profile cases when investigations complete

Datuk Abu Kassim Mohammad, the chief of the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) said that plans are in place where they would inform the public about the findings of their investigations and the outcomes of the highly publicized cases. This he said would include cases which have been closed as well as those which are classified under the ‘no further action’ category’.

He said “”The matter was discussed at a recent commission management meeting and it was felt that such a policy was needed in the name of justice and transparency. The proposal will be tabled before the commission’s advisory board meeting next month. However, this will only involve cases that are of public interest or those highlighted by the media. We will not announce the status of all cases, because there are some of which the public have no knowledge of, and it should remain so. We will also discuss with the Attorney-General’s Chambers the legal implications of this decision. If there is no objection, we will make it a policy. We are doing this to show that we are transparent, and so the public will have confidence in us.”

Tycoon jailed for corruption staying in a ‘posh’ cell with flat screen TV, maids and karaoke room

Artalyta Suryani, a businesswoman in Indonesia was convicted of corruption and was then sent to jail. There she was almost having the time of her life when she defied all odds to live in prison, way more luxurious than many could only dreamt of.

This was because, her jail cell came with the following, air-conditioning, a double bed, flat-screen TV, her own private bathroom, an adjoining karaoke room and the service of maids. Ironically, she was sentenced to 5 years of jail for bribery. Susilo Bambang, the president of Indonesia had set up a team to investigate such happenings at the Jakarta Pondok Bambu women’s penitentiary. According to Denny Indrayana, one of the members of the investigation team, "We found a number of wealthy inmates had been provided with exclusive facilities. They allegedly paid some corrupt individuals in the prison to get all they want. It shows the weakness of our judicial system."

They have been able to do so with the help of CCTV recordings and this is where they have already established the ‘physical attributes’ of the suspects. He said “The police have leads on the suspects who threw flammable materials into the Metro Tabernacle church. We have some development but we cannot say much as it would disrupt our investigations. We are working hard to find the suspects and we are checking if they were involved in the other church attacks,”

Attack in SIB Church Seremban not serious – Home Minister

Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has applauded the maturity of the people as well as the commitment of the government in ensuring that the country remains peaceful and harmonious especially in the times of a major religious catastrophe where he added that if the pre-emptive measures were not taken by the government, the situation would have gotten out of hand.

He said “I believe that no unwanted incident will occur due to the maturity of the people, including those who organised the demonstrations (at mosques on Friday). It was within mosque compounds, in a peaceful and disciplined manner, and the gathering period was brief,”. He also commented that the attack of the SIB Church in Seremban was not a serious incident saying that “Alhamdullilah, I can report that there are no serious incidents. I was told that the front door of the (SIB) church was splashed with petrol and only the door was damaged. It relieves me that we went through Friday prayers (with no untoward incident) and I am thankful that Sunday services went on smoothly. We have evidence to identify certain suspects. It is still under investigation, so I cannot reveal it,”

Also it is clearly stated in the Quran that mosque, churches, temples and other places of worship must not be harmed in anyway. This act of arson on churches is done by sombody who is worshipping SATAN!

A crime is a crime no matter what damage is done to the church, because this crime starts in the mind of the ppl and will grow if not contained and corrected, but will our government have the will power to do that against their own interest? Winning GE13 is the main goal and getting attention away from all the "not so good" events discussed in the alternative media is the second goal.

Malaysians are not so stupid anymore that they can be easily obstructed from the truth as it was in earlier times without the Internet.

Attack on churches – Hishammuddin denies cops are ‘dragging their feet’

Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, the Home Minister has denied claims that the police are ‘dragging their feet’ in their investigations on the arson attacks on the churches around the country including Malacca, Perak, Sarawak and the latest one in Negri Sembilan and that the reason for the delay is because all the information need to be verified before action is being taken.

Hishammuddin said “There were many aspects that needed to be looked at before any action is taken against the suspects that have been identified, including if they were really involved and whether these were isolated incidents or part of a bigger agenda. The police had to be careful in gathering all the information before acting because if it was part of bigger agenda then the case would become extremely serious and would need to be handled very differently by the authorities involved. I cannot disclose information on the ongoing investigations -- at present the incidents seem to be isolated ones but we will only know for sure when the investigations have been concluded,”

Tan Sri Ismail Omar, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police also added that “All the police had now was information it had gathered from various sources and there had not been any witnesses who had come forward. We are working hard on the case but we cannot just take the information we are receiving like postings on blogs and move in to make arrests because we are not even sure where the information is coming from. We have to verify all the information and when we have concrete reasons to believe the suspects are involved we will do the necessary. Those responsible would be charged under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy property which carries a maximum term of 20 years in jail and a fine.”

Phang claims political interference led to TV show on corruption topic ending 20 minutes earlier

Tan Sri Robert Phang, one of the members of the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission)’s Advisory Committee appeared on a live TV show on Bernama TV but found the time slot shortened by 20 minutes. The programmed, Hello Malaysia was supposedly a 1 hour show but the producers decided to cut short by 20 minutes for reasons unknown. The title for the show last Friday was ‘Graft and Corruption: The Ideological Challenges Ahead”. Phang was part of the panelist in the show which included Terence Fernandez, a deputy editor with local newspaper The Sun. While Fernandez gave his account of what happened in the newspaper, Phang said that the shortening of the show was due to political interference alleging that it was Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, the MCA youth chief who tried to stop the programme fearing that it might expose his involvement in the PKFZ (Port Klang Free Zone) issue.

Phang said ‘Certain MCA party members led by Dr Wee had exerted pressure on the producers to cancel the broadcast to prevent the panellists from discussing “sensitive issues” such as the PKFZ scandal. They also blocked all telephone calls to the show by viewers to black out comments,”

The answer is most obvious. We live in a country where the ruling political parties especially UMNO are corrupted to the core!!!!
Surely, they (these corrupted motherfathers) are not about to be paraded in the National TV programme exposing their shit....
If there comes a day, where graft and corruptions are tackled seriously by the govt..... not a chance with the present mob.... perhaps, a change of govt, then maybe, we see a silver lining at the end of the rainbow.

and they would have added 20 minutes if it would have been for their advantage! smilies/grin.gif All Malaysians know that!

see how powerful this BN beggar are, they can STOP a program even on air!!!

Najis and his filthy UMNO group had called their slave Wee from MCA to do anything to stop the live interview from proceeding as it will shatter their already septic reputation.

Miri church attack done by naughty boys, not religious extremists

According to the Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohmad Salleh, the attack of the Good Shepherd Church in Lutong in Miri Sarawak where some window panes were smashed were carried out by delinquents and ruled out the possibility of religious extremists being involved in the stone-throwing incident.

Salleh said “The police had not receive any more reports on church attacks in the state and the situation was under control. It was the work of naughty boys and not religious extremists," and that his officers have all been ordered to leave their mobile numbers with the churches so that they are contactable in the event of such incidents. He added that “The police were keeping all houses of worships, including churches and mosques, under surveillance”

NAJIS how many church are your targeting for this time project??

The problem first started when that botak home minister filed a case to bar the use of "Allah" by Herald.
When judgement was made not in Govt favor, the botak minister in the PM dept said the judge made the wrong judgement.
PM and Hisabmudin said Muslims are permitted to protest.
PM further announced govt cannot control protest indirectly interpreted as giving the green light.
IGP said protests in mosques illegal and no permit issued
Today Home ministry said protests in mosques were legal according to malaysian insider.

Ai yoyo ma, Ai yoyo pa. What the hell is going on? So who is fanning all the problems? Why are there so many inconsistencies from the govt? Why can't the govt have a common stand?

NS cops confirm eighth church attack

The primarily East Malaysian Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB) church in Seremban, Negri Sembilan was attacked today with an arson attempt , leaving scorch marks on its front doors.

The attack did not affect the church interior and was believed to have occurred early this morning.

Rasah member of Parliament, Loke Siew Fook visited the church soon after and confirmed the incident.

“The worship hall was not affected, the attack only affected the front door,” Loke told The Malaysian Insider.

Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan deputy police chief Datuk Abd Manan Mohd Hassan said a team sent to the church had found signs of attempted arson.

“A team of police officers, together with the forensic unit and the Fire and Rescue Department went to inspect the incident and found the front entrance door damaged.

“We believe assailants used petrol to set fire to the door but fortunately, the fire did not spread,” he told reporters at the scene of the incident.

He said police believe the incident took place between 1.30am and 8.30am as a police unit had patrolled the area at 1.30am and found everything in order.

He added that he had directed all police patrol cars and all police officers on duty to monitor places of worship, especially mosques and churches, to ensure their safety.

“I urge the people to stop such activities. Do not do anything that can disrupt peace and harmony of the country. We will take stern action against those found responsible,” he said.
Got a great travel photo? Can it win this photo contest?

The first church attack took place on Friday, amid dispute over the use of the word “Allah” by the Catholic Church’s Herald to refer to God in the Malay language.

The SIB church conducts it service regularly in the national language.

Both the government and opposition have moved to defuse tension, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announcing financial aid of RM500,000 for the worst hit church — the Metro Tabernacle.

Separately, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a dialogue with the Christian community yesterday.

So many attacks already and still no suspect?

But when people criticize the Perak sultan online, arrests are made rapidly.

It's all about priority.

In the first place, the govt shd be more stern in not allowing the protest on last friday. Now, the "home-made bombing" started, the govt shd not give the impression that it is just a small "thing". Dont wait till it get worse. Implement damage control. Everyone know that race and religion are very, very sensitive issues...dont let it get out of hand.
Please quickly do something concrete...

Dummy's guide on how to stay in Power (BN Version)

1. Create an issue which drives a wedge between two groups of people, either by race or by religion
2. Incite anger through various media
3. Spark riots or demonstrations across the nation
4. Declare martial law
5. Clampdown on all alternative media for inciting unrest while slapping small fines on own media
6. Arrest of all opposition leaders who have participated in giving speeches on the issue
7. Hold a controlled election
8. Explain low voters turnout due to climate of hear
9. Retain control of government

You have been advised...

These are works of cowards and terrorist wannabes... Why until now still no suspects? Home Minister and PM.... You gave the green light to demo, now see what you got yourselves into?

I urge all the Christians in Msia not to give in or appease the tiny minority of the Muslims who are causing trouble. Stick to your rights under the Constitution because this is our fundamental right. If we give in to UMNO this time, they will start to demand more concessions in the future and whatever that is left of our rights will be further eroded. Let them bomb the church buildings with homemade explosives. They are merely buildings, for the strength of the church lies in its congregation. God bless you.

Blogger ‘Kickdafella’ threatened with an axe

Blogger Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz, who has been criticising the Kelantan state administration via his blog, Kickdefella, had an axe thrown at his sports utility vehicle (SUV) last night.

Kota Baharu district police chief, ACP Zahruddin Abdullah said the incident occurred at about 10.50 pm at his house in Kampung Demit, near here.

“The victim was reported to be at home when he realised something had happened outside his house and upon going out, he saw that the rear windscreen of his SUV was broken,” he told reporters, here today.

However, he said no injury had been reported except for the damage to the victim’s car and that the police were investigating to determine the motive for the incident.

“We are investigating to find the motive and the probe is being carried out under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and causing destruction to property,” Zahruddin said.

Meanwhile, Syed Azidi when met at his house, said he was in the kitchen when he heard the sound of metal hitting an object and a glass being smashed.

“I then looked out the window and saw a vehicle moving past my house. I opened the door thinking that an accident had occurred,” he said.

He said that as soon as he opened the door, the vehicle concerned made a u-turn and headed for his house.

“I noticed that the driver was looking at me and made the u-turn before stopping his vehicle several meters from my house,” he said.

Syed Azidi said the driver revved the throttle three times before driving off

Church attacks worry Tourism Ministry

The Tourism Ministry fears that attempts of arson on several churches in the country may threaten its tourism industry’s growth.

Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen sad the religious tension could cause fear among foreign tourists of visiting Malaysia, hence affecting its economy.

“This is the communicaton era, so information travels fast...tourists will choose not to visit a country faced with conflicts, especially religious conflicts,” she told reporters after officiating at a Christmas and New Year celebration attended by about 150 Christians, here, today.

Dr Ng said the church attacks were sending the wrong message to foreign tourists when Malaysia was always touted as a harmonious country despite its multiracial and multi-religious society.

While the ministry had not received information on the effects of the incidents on tourist arrivals in Malaysia, she said, “We are monitoring the developments through our offices overseas.”

Dr Ng, who condemned the church attacks, said the people should not be influenced by the actions of a few who were out to create chaos in the country.

She said the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, which at all times wanted to safeguard peace and religious freedom in this country, would ensure the individuals involved would face appropriate action.

So far, seven churches with the latest in Miri, Sarawak as well as the church and guard post at Sekolah Menengah Convent in Taiping, Perak have been attacked

Dun talked craps Ng Yen Yen, go and read utusan for the last 6 months, then go and pretend to understand who started the fire of intolerence and bigotry.

you should worry because what your Ministry's spending last year to promote Malaysia has gone down the drain by these acts. For example ask your offices in Johore to find out from business people there who depends mainly from Singaporeans on the reduction in their businesses.

Most of the tourists rather go to Thailand because of lower currency, cleaner beaches, friendly service, cleaner public toilets, efficient public transport, wide variety of delicious food and many more. I wonder what Yen Yen can offer.

Miri church attack makes it seven

Police have cordoned off Taiping’s historic All Saints’ Church, target of an unsuccessful arson attack.

A stone was thrown against a church in Miri today, making it the seventh attack in three days that is linked to the “Allah” ruling which has provoked Muslim anger. Earlier reports of an arson attack proved to be unfounded.

This is the first reported attack in East Malaysia where a large part of the population are Christians who worship in Bahasa Malaysia and also the ruling Barisan Nasional’s “fixed deposit” of votes and parliamentary seats in Election 2008.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein confirmed the attempt but insisted the situation in the country is under control.

“The situation is under control and the people should not be worried. They should not be influenced by internet reports or text messages,” he told reporters at an Umno event here.

Four churches in the Klang Valley were hit by petrol bombs on Friday while one was hit last night in Taiping. A Malacca church reported it was splashed with black paint while a priest in Penang had his car splashed with red paint.

A convent school in Taiping was also the target of an attempt with petrol bombs found near its guardhouse overnight. Church authorities believe it was meant for the St Louis Church next door.

Hishammuddin reminded the people not to be influenced by foreign and internet media reports as these could be inaccurate and project the country as unstable.

He said the ministry would brief foreign envoys on the actual situation

“We have to brief the international community as we have our citizens out there who want to know the actual situation which has been played up by certain quarters, including what is taken from the Internet,” he said.

Hishammuddin said the government will give an accurate picture of what has happened in the spate of church attacks.

Dear Moronic Minister, do not leave out the part where all three ministers, the Prime Minister, The Deputy Prime Minister and the moronic Home Minister supported the right to protest.

That will insure history will record this as one of your few achievements of destruction.

Next time, use your brain before you open your mouth. But I suppose , with your defective brain, even that will not prevent more incompetence from you.

You keep on saying the situation is under control and yet the attack continues. There is not a single arrest. How to you expect the rakyat and the international community to interprete the situation? Show us some concrete action. ISA those who have made seditious remarks like "We can fight to the death over this issue," as told to the Associated Press news agency by Ahmad Johari at the National Mosque. Theresa Kok's remark about the loudness of the loud speakers is nothing compared to this.

Heinous, Najib says of hits on churches

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday moved swiftly to calm religious tensions as news emerged that a fourth church had been targeted by arsonists.

The church attacks — following a recent High Court ruling that allowed Christians to use the word ‘Allah’ to refer to God — has stunned Malaysians unused to such violence.

The attacks drew condemnation yesterday from leaders across the political divide.

“Acts such as the burning of the house of worship of other religions are a heinous act,’ said Najib who, along with several Cabinet ministers and their deputies, visited the Metro Tabernacle church here.

Exhorting all parties not to act emotionally, he also announced a RM500,000 relocation fund for the church, the ground floor of which was gutted by the fire.

“This is a sincere contribution from the government,” he told reporters.

“The government is deeply committed to maintain harmony and cordial relations between the various races and religions in our country.”

Emotions have been running high since the High Court ruling on Dec 31 allowing the Catholic church’s newspaper to use the word “Allah”.

The church had argued that “Allah” was a pre-Islamic Arabic word but many Muslims objected on the grounds that it was exclusive to Islam and that its use by Christians would sow confusion.

The government has appealed against the decision, which is currently suspended. Last Friday, Muslim groups held peaceful rallies in 10 mosques in several states after prayers.

But the rallies were overshadowed by the attacks, which badly damaged the Metro Tabernacle church. Three other churches in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, were also targeted.

Yesterday, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim blamed the violence on the ruling Umno party and accused the Umno-controlled Utusan daily of inciting hatred.

At a public forum in Petaling Jaya, Datuk Seri Anwar called for calm and said that the reactions to the “Allah” controversy were an “insult not only to Malaysians, but Muslims and Islam” as well.

The opposition alliance Pakatan Rakyat backs the court decision. Datuk Hadi Awang, president of PAS, a member of the opposition alliance, condemned the attack on the Metro Tabernacle church as unIslamic during his visit to the church.

“Even in war, Muslims are forbidden from desecrating places of worships, what more now when we are living in peace,” he said.

Najib yesterday rejected charges that his party was to blame for fanning emotions following the court ruling.

Police said yesterday that they received news of a fourth attack — on the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Petaling Jaya — in addition to the three last Friday.

The church suffered minor damage after unidentified attackers flung a homemade petrol bomb at it. It was unclear when the attack took place.

A pastor was also reportedly manhandled by several people in his church in Kuala Lumpur late last Friday.

The Council of Churches of Malaysia yesterday urged the government to ensure the safety of Christians to worship freely.

There have been no arrests so far, but Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the government would not hesitate to use the Internal Security Act against the culprits.

The ISA should be applied to the BN leaders. They instigated and made the issues unneccesary big, just for a sake for more votes. Hope Malaysians should be more mature than this. Unfortunately, there are always a group due to the result from the last 20 years plus seeds planted by our great past BN leaders esp. Tun Mahathir. As can be seen, business controlled by cronies, country policy becoming more racist - BTN, corruption at peak, FDI losing from Internation screen, more fanatic coming up etc.
Voters made your choice right, if not, the country not only becoming Zimbabwe, but soon also like Sudah model.

“The government is deeply committed to maintain harmony and cordial relations between the various races and religions in our country.”

Shooting off their mouths before knowing what they are talking about seem to be the ONLY consistent thing they seem to be doing well these days. Typical of a government who are loosing ground and not sure how to run the country.

RM500,000? I would prefer this incident should not happen. If Najib is a competent leader for all Malaysians. He should make a policy of annual budget allocation for all religious funding. And have a inter-religion council. So far as I see this is all public relation stupid stun.

Brick hurled at Taman Menara Maju surau

The glass sliding door of a surau at Taman Menara Maju, Kg Jawa, Klang near here was found broken at about 6am Saturday after a brick was hurled at the surau.

Besides the broken sliding door, there were also stains of liquid in the 13-year-old surau.

Klang OCPD, ACP Mohamad Mat Yusop, when contacted here, confirmed the incident but refuted the possibility that it was linked to the burning of several churches in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya yesterday.

Mohamad also said that the stain was not that of urine as had been claimed and said that further investigation was being carried out to determine what actually caused the stain.

“A local resident who was going to the surau for the ‘Subuh’ prayers told police that he saw a male suspect, who was not wearing a shirt, running toward a lane about 200 meters from the surau.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that there were several cans of hard drinks at the lane concerned and we believe the incident occurred because the man (suspect) was drunk,” he said.

Mohamad said police also believed that the incident was not committed by outsiders based on the fact that the brick used to break the sliding door was similar to the ones found in the surau compound.

In this context, he appealed to the people not to link the incident with the burning of the churches and hoped that the people would remain calm

This is the problem. Any attack on a mosque will now be seen as a Christian retaliation. The Police were right to dismiss the suggestion that the incident is related to the arson attackes on Churches. Right thinking Malaysians should come out in greater numbers so that the tiny renegade minority are corralled with no room to move. Islam is not under attack in Malaysia.

The Christians are not waging war on the Muslims. Muslims and non Muslims have lived in peace for generations. Do not allow opportunists - political or otherwise to exploit issues for their gain. We cannot live in a society where the mob rules by creating a climate of fear and intimidation. We say that we are a country where the Constitution is supreme, governed by the Rule of Law and where judges are independant. Let us act and behave as if that we true. Do not allow the mob to discredit the value of judgements on the basis that the Judge was of a particular ethnicity and religion. if we allow that then we give power to the mob and we then replace the rule of law with the rule of the mob. And where do we go from there ?

Failed attack at Taiping church, convent school

The All Saints Church in Taiping.

Arsonists failed to set fire to Taiping’s historic All Saints’ Church and the Convent School last night, making it the fifth church and first Christian school attack linked to the controversial ‘Allah’ ruling that has riled many Muslims.

Police confirmed both incidents, saying Molotov cocktails were lobbed at the church and school but the petrol bombs did not explode.

The country’s first Anglican church is also the first outside Klang Valley to be attacked since Friday.

The church in Jalan Taming Sari was built in 1886 and is considered one of Malaysia’s precious heritage sites with its humble timber facade.

Church officials said the petrol bomb found at the convent school was probably meant for the St Louis Church next door.

Convent Taiping.

The convent school, renamed SMK Convent Taiping, started in 1899 but moved to its present location in Convent Lane in 1938.

Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Pahlawan Zulkifli Abdullah said that it was suspected that both cases were just acts of mischief by opportunists taking advantage of the other incidents of church attacks in Kuala Lumpur.

“We suspect that the incidents have no link to the other attacks on churches regarding the Allah issue. These were probably just mischievous acts by opportunists.

“However, we are not taking this matter lightly and we will be investigating both cases for arson. The perpetrators will be punished,” he said.

In the incident at the All Saints Church, the caretaker of the premises lodged a report with the police upon discovering two broken bottles just outside the wall of the church at about 7.30am this morning.

DCP Zulkifli said the caretaker had also discovered black marks on the wall, leading to the belief that it was a case of attempted arson.

In the other incident, the security guard of SM Convent Taiping had found a similar broken bottle just outside the school premises.

Police suspect that the bottle had been flung at the school at about 3.30am this morning.

“In both incidents however, no damages were recorded. Our forensic experts are presently investigating to see if both were attempted arson cases,” said DCP Zulkifli, adding that so far, the police had no suspects.

Meanwhile, he warned the public against repeating such attempts and said that the police would spare no mercy towards those involved in such criminal acts.

“We are also heightening our patrols across the state at all churches and mosques. We will be keeping a close eye on the situation,” he said.
Police have stepped up patols at most houses of worship in the country but appealed to church authorities to hire their own security guards due to a lack of policemen.

The heightened alert came after the Dec 31 High Court ruling that allowed Catholic weekly Herald to use “Allah” to describe the Christian God in its Bahasa Malaysia section. Muslim groups then organised protest for Friday when the church attacks began.

The first and worst hit was the Metro Tabernacle in Desa Melawati which had its office gutted in the early hours of Friday. The government has given RM500,000 to rebuild the church, which is part of the Assemblies of God church.

The Life Chapel in Section 17 Petaling Jaya suffered scorch marks in another attack, similar to that seen in the Lutheran Good Shepherd Church in the city’s old town quarter.

Another Molotov cocktail attack failed at the Catholic Assumption Church in Jalan Templar in Petaling Jaya.

Some churches cancelled services on Friday while others have started vigils to pray for safety and peace.

The Metro Tabernacle church had its Sunday service at the MCA headquarters today.

Jet engines don't go missing in Zimbabwe, says Anwar....

Malaysia is lagging behind its neighbours economically due to rampant malpractices and mismanagement by the BN government, said Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim last night. He recalled that Malaysia once held pole position as an economic 'tiger' in the Asean region.

However, the country is now “behind Thailand, Indonesia and even Vietnam, let alone Singapore, in terms of economic growth and prosperity due extensive corruption”. Anwar cited the monopolisation of the country's wealth by a handful of politicians and their business cronies as the main cause of our economic downfall.

“Corruption is killing the country and the people. The only way to save the country is to boot out the Umno-BN government in the next general election, which I hope will be held soon,” he told at a PKR rally outside his home in Cerok Tokun, Bukit Mertajam.

Anwar said rule of law, transparency and accountability practiced by the '1Malaysia' government under premier Najib Abdul Razak was so low that the people have lost faith and respect for the Putrajaya administration.

According to Anwar, the reputation of the judiciary, integrity of politicians, efficiency of the public delivery system, professionalism of police and anti-corruption agency are all at their lowest ebb. He argued that there are two Malaysias – one for the elite and the rich, and the other for ordinary citizens and the poor.

“The elite can get away with murders and rapes, but ordinary citizens could end up dead in custody at the hands of law enforcement agencies,” said the Permatang Pauh parliamentarian.

Despite the severe crisis of confidence, Anwar slammed the Umno-dominated federal government for hoodwinking the people about the real situation confronting the country.

“The government creates stories and portrays a false image that Malaysia's economic growth is at a level to be proud of - that we are better than Zimbabwe and Bangladesh,” he said, drawing laughter from the crowd.

“Even in Zimbabwe, jet engines don't go missing,” quipped the PKR supremo.

Anwar was referring to the recent disappearance of two F-5E jet engines from by the Royal Malaysia Air Force base in Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur.

Touching on the arson attacks against three churches yesterday, Anwar lamented that Malaysia has now become a subject of international ridicule and condemnation. He is now embarrassed to attend international conferences in the wake of the attacks.

“The church pastors fear for their safety. How am I going to explain to the international community about the lack of security for minorities?

“How I could face them when temples are being demolished and churches torched in my country,” said Anwar.

The opposition leader said that a real Malay-Muslim leader was duty bound to protect Malaysia's ethnic minorities.

“Only then, one can proudly claim oneself as a true Malay-Muslim leader.”
