Khairy Jamaluddin, the Umno Youth chief has called on his supporters not to continuously harp on the issue that he had yet again failed to land a ministerial position in the latest cabinet reshuffle by the prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. He told local news portal MKini that the members of the youth wing to instead focus on their responsibilities. He said “Thank you for trying to show support but just do your work and don't get sidetracked by this,"
Khairy added that “I hope that everyone respects the Prime Minister's vision with regards to the change in cabinet and I don't want to hear any comments from Umno Youth leaders. Of course one or two of (the state leaders) made those comments out of their own conviction, so there is nothing much I can do. It (the Youth wing) will only be demoralising if you allow it to be, by making a big deal out of it. People support us because of how much work we do, not whether or not we have a government position. I am not expecting anything, I am quite clear about what I need to do and it is not about getting a cabinet appointment,”

No evidence of corruption in Semesta - SELCAT
The initial findings of the Selangor Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) show there is no evidence of corruption in the Selangor-owned sand mining company, Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB).
This was the conclusion of Selcat at the end of its three-day inquiry today.
Selcat chairman Teng Chang Kim said, however, there was an indication of mismanagement and loopholes in KSSB's administrative system.
He also said that nothing brought before the Selcat inquiry indicated that KSSB was mired in a scandal.
"So where is the scandal? I don't see any scandal. We don't see any of the issues brought up by the MP (Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam) as a scandal," Teng told reporters after chairing the Selcat hearing today.
Selcat probed allegations by Kapar Member of Parliament S. Manikavasagam of corrupt activities involving senior officials of KSSB.
Earlier, Manikavasagam had a heated argument with Teng when he (Manikavasagam) was not allowed to bring in his two key witnesses.
Teng did not allow Manikavasagam to present the witnesses as the Selcat committee had not received written statements from them.
"Selcat needs to receive written statements from witnesses beforehand so that the committee can ascertain whether they should be called to the inquiry.
We need to see whether there is any relevance from the statutory declaration given by the witnesses on the allegations. Proper procedures and Commonwealth parliamentarian practice need to be followed," said Teng.
Manikavasagam had insisted on presenting the two witnesses, a KSSB employee and a sand mining contractor.
The lawmaker also wanted to tender new evidence on the allegations to the inquiry, and this was also turned down by Teng.
"These are all important proof and documents which I need to show today," said an irritated Manikavasagam, after which he left the hall.
Meanwhile, a sand mining contractor revealed that a KSSB officer had requested from him a commission of RM1 per tonne in November last year for future sand purchases.
The contractor said that though the officer had confirmed a price of RM12.50 per tonne for a stockpile of sand at Sungai Darah, he revised the price to RM14 per tonne after the contractor had almost finished clearing the stockpile.
He also said that KSSB had allowed him to make payments first and collect the sand later. - BERNAMA

Pakatan wagers image against sports-betting
Pakatan Rakyat is gambling on its anti-sports betting stand to burnish its credentials — especially among the Malay electorate — ahead of the next general election, which may come as early as next year.
They are also hoping for enough Chinese support in their campaign against further expansion of the gambling industry, already saturated with numbers gaming and horse-race betting.
Although the recent Hulu Selangor and Sibu by-elections saw a shift in Chinese support towards Pakatan Rakyat (PR), despite Barisan Nasional (BN) doling out the usual goodies like cash handouts and infrastructure development, Malay voters have mostly remained in favour of the ruling coalition.
“I think there is general support for our position,” Bukit Bendera MP Liew Chin Tong
“Many Muslims are against betting. Women especially are against betting... as it eats into the family household income,” he added.
Analysts say the value of the Malaysian sports-betting industry is estimated to be as much as RM8 billion.
Since the BN government awarded a sports-betting licence to Tan Sri Vincent Tan’s Ascot Sports Sdn Bhd last month, DAP has gone on a crusade against them, accusing the ruling coalition of enriching the tycoon but impoverishing the people.
PR has also formed an Anti-Gambling Movement (GMJ) that is planning to launch a campaign against sports-betting today, followed by a series of road shows throughout the nation and the delivery of memoranda to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, MPs, and the prime minister, that will culminate in a demonstration of “100,000 Citizens Protest Sports Gambling” on July 3.
DAP Socialist Youth head Anthony Loke said although the Chinese community was split on this issue, the electorate generally opposed the legalisation of the sports-betting industry.
“There are segments in the Chinese community who will support (our opposition to sports betting),” said Loke. “But there are probably some who believe it should be legalised. About Indians, like the Chinese, some will agree while some will not. Malays, looking at it from a religious point of view, they will probably not support it (legalising sports betting).”
“By and large, I think it will be negative,” said Loke when asked how people have generally reacted to the BN legalising sports betting.
PR state governments like Selangor and Penang have already banned sports-betting in their states despite a warning from Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung that such a move was illegal and could result in legal action against the states.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has directed both the Penang and Seberang Prai Municipal Councils to bar sports-betting under Section 101(v) of the Local Government Act, adding that he was prepared to go to court for his actions.
Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim pointed out that although the federal government had issued a football-betting licence, the state government’s local authorities have the power to stop it as Ascot Sports must apply for a licence from local authorities to operate.
The Selangor government has also decided not to allow the use of state-owned premises for gambling activities upon expiry of their licenses.
“I think it has given us a boost,” said Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar in reference to PR’s polemic against legalised sports betting. “They (the Chinese community) have been very receptive.”
Nurul added that the women’s wings of PR were planning to expand the level of understanding among the Malay and Chinese communities on the social and economic impact of legalised sports-betting, to gain more traction on this issue.
PAS treasurer Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli said that Muslims especially support PR’s campaign against legalised sports-betting, pointing out that even Umno leaders have not dared to counter them openly.
“As far as Malays are concerned, we have gained some credibility,” said Hatta. “Even though others are not saying anything, their silence indicates support.”
Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, a member of the PAS central working committee, said that despite a lackadaisical attitude towards legalised sports-betting among the urban and the impoverished electorate, PR’s stand is a “plus point for Pakatan” as it creates a positive image of the coalition.
“I can tell you safely that Malays are quite unanimous against it (legalised sports-betting)... but I think the Chinese are quite split,” he said.
Raja Nong Chik: Kampung Baru land will not be sold to non-Malays
Not a single square inch of land in the redevelopment of the Kampung Baru Malay settlement in the city will be sold to non-Malays, said Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Datuk Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.
“As I had explained, the 60:40 ratio for property ownership in the area was only a proposal by the government and did not mean the existing land there would be sold to non-Malays or foreign investors based on that ratio,” he said in a statement today.
He said this ratio would only be used if the area was redeveloped with skyscrapers conditional upon the consent of landowners in Kampung Baru.
He added that not a single landowner there would be sidelined in the redevelopment of Kampung Baru and that when they gained ownership of the new properties, they would have the liberty to sell or enter into equity ownership of their properties.
“We have also not taken a decision whether the new properties will be sold, rented or leased out to non-Malays or foreign companies.
“The ratio proposal was actually aimed at ensuring that the redevelopment of Kampung Baru could be participated by foreign giants, specifically for hotels, hypermarkets, banks and the like,” he said.
He said if the landowners did not agree with the proposed ratio, the government was willing to discuss the matter further so that a win-win situation could be reached for all parties.

Another filp-flop when met with disgruntled noises and opposing voices..
Why arouse the interests of the non-malays & evoke the suspicions of the malay land owners with your 60:40 if you can't deliver the proposal. Now the land owners are laughing because they again triumph over the governments inconsistancy. You might have angered the non-malays inteligence & make them feel like "beggars" with your insincerity. That give us non-malays more reason to vote for an alternative government.

Mukhriz on Gaza aid mission: ‘We will not be foiled’
The humanitarian aid ship MV Rachel Corrie, sponsored by the Perdana Global Peace Organisation (PGPO), will not be foiled by any attempt to derail its mission to send aid to the people of Gaza by sea.
PGPO advisor Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said these include the decision by Egypt to open up the border crossing at Rafah to enable the aid to be transported by land to the Gaza Strip.
“Gaza has suffered from the blockade for three years. If the Rafah crossing were to be opened, it should have been a long time ago. I see this as a tactic to discourage us from sending humanitarian aid straight to Gaza by sea,” he told reporters after opening the ESQ Training Grand Event 2010 here today.
Mukhriz said the mission organisers would also not be deceived by the statement by United States Vice-President Joe Biden for the aid to be handed over to Israel to be sent to Gaza.
He said Israel’s suspicion over the supplies carried by the ship was unfounded as these had been checked and the ship confirmed to be not carrying any arms before making its journey to Gaza.
“They (Israel and the US) have been making ridiculous excuses as the passengers onboard the humanitarian aid flotilla are peace activists and we (aid mission organisers) have ensured that the ships did not carry any firearms.
“Israel should not give excuses but to allow our ships to reach their destination without any interference,” he said.
Biden, when interviewed during the Charlie Rose show on the US Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) on Wednesday, defended Israel’s attack on one of the ships in the flotilla to prevent smuggling of weapons to Gaza and questioned the mission organisers’ insistence of sending the aid straight to Gaza.
On US’ stand in defending Israel, Mukhriz said it was a mistake and that the US should have instead taken the opportunity to correct the situation.
“We know that Israel has to date violated 80 United Nations resolutions, meaning it has no respect at all for international law.
“Such a belligerent country should be isolated; it cannot be supported so that it will not act as it pleases,” he said.
Mukhriz, who is also International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister, had earlier witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between ESQ Leadership Centre Sdn Bhd and Primeworks Studio, TV9, Koperasi Serbaguna Anak-Anak Selangor (Kosas), Institut Perubatan dan Pergigian Termaju (IPPT), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Felcra Training Centre for ESQ training be conducted at the organisations or companies involved.

Anti-Israel protest: 10,000-strong crowd gathered near US Embassy
COMMON GROUND: Protesters trying to penetrate the FRU personnel barrier while traffic on the next road is at a standstill
KUALA LUMPUR: Furore over Israel's attack over the Gaza-bound aid flotilla last Monday has not simmered, with a 10,000 strong crowd gathering in front of the US Embassy in protest today.
The protest, organised by Pakatan Rakyat and 30 non-governmental organisations (NGOs), originated at several mosques in the city after Friday prayers before the crowd proceeded towards the US Embassy, located in Jalan Tun Razak.
The protest, which saw the crowd burning the Israeli flag and a poster of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had caused a massive traffic jam along the neighbouring Jalan Ampang from about 2pm.
Some 250 police personnel were deployed from the Cheras police headquarters and Federal Reserve Unit (FRU). A police helocopter was also seen hovering above, circling the area.
Pakatan de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who led a team of Opposition leaders including Gombak MP Azmin Ali, Nasaruddin Mat Isa and PKR deputy president Syed Hussin Ali, succeeded in entering the embassy to deliver a letter signed by Pakatan leaders as well as the NGOs.
The letter calls on US President Barack Obama to condemn the violence against the flotilla aid attack and for Israel to end the siege on Gaza.
"We are appalled and deeply disappointed by your weak and inadequate response on the matter," the letter read.
At one point, the crowd attempted to storm through the FRU barricade. However, no injuries were reported among any members of the crowd or the FRU personnel.
The crowd also carried banners proclaiming their support for the Palestinian struggle.
Below is the timeline as provided by The Malay Mail reporter, Aizat Sharif, who was at the US Embassy to cover the protest:
2pm - The crowd that had gathered at the Kampung Baru mosque have proceeded towards the US Embassy at Jalan Tun Razak. However, there were several police personnel still present at the mosque to monitor and control the crowd. No reports received on rowdy behaviour from the crowd.
2.30pm - Crowd began gathering at Jalan Tun Razak following the completing of Friday prayers. The crowd gathered at the US Embassy has caused a traffic crawl some 3km along Jalan Ampang, in front of Lembaga Tabung Haji to the Kampung Pandan roundabout.
3.10pm - Opposition leaders Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PKR Gombak MP Azmin Ali, Pas secretary-general Nasaruddin Mat Isa and PKR deputy president Syed Hussin Ali entered the embassy compound to deliver a letter to the embassy representative. They were inside the embassy for about 25 minutes.
3.15pm - The crowd burnt the Israel flag and carried several banners proclaiming their support for the Palestinian struggle. The crowd attempted to storm the FRU barricade but no arrests were made, and neither were there any injuries among members of the crowd or the FRU personnel.
3.30pm - Cheras district acting police chief Supt Abd Rahim Hamzah Othman said about 10,000 people had gathered for the protest in front of the US Embassy. Meanwhile, 250 police personnel from the Cheras police headquarters, including several officers from the Traffic Police Unit and Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) were deployed to the scene. A police helicopter could be seen circling above the area.
3.50pm - The protest began to mellow down and the crowd began to disperse.
A smaller protest was also held this afternoon the National Mosque in which some 150 protestors from several NGOs had gathered.
The protests came several hours after about 700 supporters from Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (ISMA), Aman Palestine, Persatuan Belia Islam Nasional (PEMBINA) and several other NGOs gathered at the Turkish Embassy this morning to submit a memorandum of support.
Smaller protest at National Mosque
KUALA LUMPUR: A smaller protest was also held today in which some 150 protesters from several NGOs gathered at the National Mosque here this afternoon.
During the protest, which comprised members of Umno Youth, Perkasa, Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma), Malaysian Muslim People's Coalition (IRIMM) as well as other non governmental organisations (NGOs), Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin stated there should be pressure to send yet another aid convoy to Gaza.
He said this was because the issue of Israel's three-year blockade had yet to be settled.
"Maybe this time around all Muslim (around the world) can get together and send a hundred ships to Gaza. We should also send more ships from Malaysia. The Umno youth are ready to make sure this is achieved," he said when speaking to reporters after addressing more than a hundred protesters who gathered outside the National Mosque here today.
The protesters carried banners and Palestine flags in condemnation of the Israeli attack on a Turkish ship, part of an international flotilla carrying aid to besieged Gaza last Monday.
Khairy told the gathering that should another ship carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza be attacked, the Zionist regime would have to deal with him and the rest of those who were angered by this action.
"The Zionist regime does not respect the law of the world and we want the United Nation's security council to take severe action over Israel following this incident," he said, adding it was very important to keep the issue alive.
"There are protests going on all over the country. The more, the merrier, because we want to remind Malaysians to be aware of what's going on. They should support whatever initiatives which are directed towards the Palestinians and they must also oppose the Israelis," he said.
"This also applies to the governments throughout the world because only then big names such as the United States would slowly realise and recognise the issue. However, this is not a Muslim issue or an an Islamic issue, but a world issue and we want to see a resolution against the cold treatment on Palestine," he said.
Meanwhile, Kimma president Mohd Fazil Abdullah said the United States should make a stand on the issue.
He said: "America should tell Israel what they are doing is wrong."
At the gathering, Khairy launched the 'SMS for Gaza' campaign to enable Malaysians to show their support for the Palestinians.
Malaysians can SMS 'GAZA' to 32928 to show their support and each would be charged a nominal rate of RM0.50.
Collection from SMS campaign, except for the telco service charges, would be donated to Gaza through the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Kapar MP slams Selcat for "cover up" in sand-mining probe
INTENSE: Mike (far right) stating his case in front of the Selcat inquiry panel this morning
Kapar Member of Parliament S. Manikavasagam gave a fiery tongue lashing to the Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) inquiry panel this morning.
Manikavasagam or Mike, as he is better known among his Pakatan Rakyat peers, expressed his disappointment when he was given a lengthy explanation by Selangor State Assembly Speaker Teng Chang Kim, who is heading the seven-man panel, with regards to Selcat's procedures and witness eligibility.
The Kapar MP wanted to present two key witnesses, an executive of Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) and a sand-mining contractor, but was stopped from doing so by the committee chairman.
Teng said any witness who wishes to come forward must first provide a written statement to the committee. Only then the committee will decide if the witness is eligible to appear at the hearing.
Teng said so far, the committee only called up a sand-mining contractor from Batang Berjuntai, Cheong Hoong Wooi, as one of the witnesses as the contractor had submitted a written statement to Selcat.
Mike argued that Selcat should be ready to call up witnesses without putting up much constraints and refraining itself from tapping into real, factual information.
"A lot of people wanted to come forward as witnesses. We should not refrain witnesses. The committee should listen."
Adding salt to wound, Teng also rejected Mike's request to tender new evidence at the hearing.
"You should have submitted those documents or evidence beforehand," the chief panellist said.
Mike replied: "I am not happy that this committee is applying a filtering process for a lot of people. Now, I can't submit my evidence and this is a hindrance in seeking the truth."
The Kapar MP said many people trusted his position and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), so much so that they came up to him in hope to solve the alleged corruption activities in the sand-mining industry in Selangor.
"We must do this right away. I don't want another delay. It was good that they came to PKR instead of exposing this via Umno," he told the panel.
Teng instantly interjected, saying that Selcat is a state committee on public hearing and everything must be done accordingly.
"This (the probe) can't happen with too many constraints. This committee is a cover up!" Mike replied, followed by thunderous applause from audiences in the hall.
But Teng was not amused. "Stop clapping! Let me remind you that this is a public hearing to get to the roots of the allegation. Please behave. Tell me, where can you find a public hearing such as this? If you want to clap, please leave," said Teng to everyone present.
The Selcat chairman then called up the next witness - Cheong - purportedly an informer. Upon being told that his time was up, Mike stood up in anger and left the hall.
Today is the third and supposedly final day of Selcat's probe into alleged corrupt practices by Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB), a state-owned sand-mining subsidiary company.
Earlier, KSSB director Ramli Abdul Majid was presented before the panel, a continuation of yesterday's probe.
Other panellists in the Selcat inquiry are Haniza Talha (PKR-Taman Merdan), Azmin Ali (PKR-Bukit Antarabangsa), Saari Sungib (Pas-Hulu Kelang), Edward Lee Poh Lin (DAP-Bukit Gasing), Ismail Sani (BN-Dusun Tua) and Sulaiman Abdul Razak (BN-Permatang).

What is the point of having a public hearing if witnesses are refrained from testifying by procedures. Selcat made those procedures and Selcat must change them. Time and again we were told that the Sgor govt is an open govt. Show it even when mistakes are made. Cover it up and you would rule only one term.
Cuepacs chief blames media for incorrect graft report
Cuepacs president Omar Osman today blamed the media today for misinterpreting his statement on the number of civil servants involved in corruption.
Yesterday, the Bernama state news agency quoted the civil servants union chief as saying that a total of 418,200 or 41 per cent of the 1.2 million civil servants in the country were suspected to be involved in corruption last year.
However, Omar explained that only 51 per cent of the 591 people arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) were civil servants and the figure dropped to 47 per cent a year later and 39 per cent last year.
He added that the number of civil servants interrogated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) between 2007 and 2009 increased from 39 per cent to 51 per cent.
“I just said that about 41 per cent of those detained for interrogation by MACC were civil servants and not 41 per cent of the whole civil service. Many were worried when it was reported that 41 per cent from 1.2 million civil servants were suspected of graft,” he told The Malaysian Insider.
Omar was proud that the percentage has dropped over the last three years and is confident that Cuepacs would be able to bring the figure down to zero per cent by 2012.
“In two years, near the end of 2012. We are confident that the percentage will drop to zero,” he said.

Sometimes a misquote can be the real thing. Maybe God wants to reveal the whole truth? By God's standard working only 50 % capacity is corrupt. So maybe this explained the high percentage which may be near the real figure for inefficiency in the civil services.

Police warn against holding anti-Israel protests tomorrow
The police have advised the public against participating in demonstrations expected to be held at several places in the city tomorrow in protest against Monday’s Israeli raid on an aid flotilla heading to Gaza.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman said today police had received information that demonstrations were to be held by certain organisations after Friday prayers.
He said the police had not received any application for permits to hold the demonstrations, and regarded the gatherings as illegal, he said in a statement.
“It is feared that these gatherings will endanger public order and lead to violence,” he said.
It is learnt that Umno Youth is expected to hold a demonstration at the National Mosque while PAS Youth is expected to hold a gathering at the Kampung Baru Jamek Mosque and the protesters are expected to march to the United States’ embassy.
In the incident on Monday, about 130km from Gaza’s coast, Israeli commandos opened fire on the aid flotilla carrying human rights activists who were accompanying humanitarian goods for Gaza residents after they ignored the order to turn back.
Several of the activists are reported to have been killed and others injured. Israel admitted killing nine activists, while the anti-Israeli blockade campaigners claimed that 19 people were shot dead by the commandos

why this warning didnt come out when perkasa and umno youth were holding the protest few days back? dont we have a right for a peaceful assembly without arms under article 10 of the federal constitution??

Ibrahim Ali sues PKR sec-gen for linking him with sports betting business
Datuk Ibrahim Ali, the independent Member of Parliament of Pasir Mas is suing Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the secretary-general of PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) for an RM2million defamation suit. He filed the suit against the Machang Member of Parliament at the Kuala Lumpur High Court Civil Registry through Rajindar Singh Veriah, his lawyer yesterday.
According to Ibrahim, Saifuddin had “falsely and maliciously published defamatory remarks” against him in the PKR publication ‘Suara Keadilan’ in its April 27 to May 4 edition. Saifuddin had claimed that Ibrahim was involved in the gaming business of Berjaya Group chief Tan Sri Vincent Tan and that he (Ibrahim) had equity interest in the business.

PKR Youth presses for probe into Norhashimah’s death
PKR Youth leaders have urged the government to conduct open investigations into the death of Norhashimah Wahid, a civil servant who died on Monday following what her family claims was excessive physical training.
Norhashimah, 31, a diplomatic administrative officer with the finance ministry, was admitted to Banting Hospital last Friday after experiencing problems breathing during a team-building and commando-style training weekend near Banting’s Jugra Training Camp.
She was three months into the physical component of the Public Management Diploma (DPA), mandatory for new diplomatic administrative officers, when she fell ill.
She was then transferred to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang after her conditioned worsened.
Norhashimah succumbed to severe pneumonia, septic shock and multiple-organ failure at 6.40am Monday after drifting in and out of consciousness for three days.
“We strongly urge the federal government, particularly PSD (Public Service Department), to carry out a thorough, open investigation into the affair to determine whether it was due to negligence of the trainers,” said a joint statement by Nurul Izzah Anwar, Amiruddin Shari, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Sim Tze Tzin.
“One cannot help but question the utility of such physically demanding, military-based courses for our civil servants,” it added, calling Norhashimah’s death “disturbing and regrettable”.
“While acknowledging the need for PTD (diplomatic administrative) officers to be physically and mentally fit, there must surely be safer, more appropriate ways to build esprit de corps and team work amongst them.”
The statement went on to question the identity and professional qualifications of the trainers currently training 416 other PTD officers.
“We were informed that this module was previously conducted by the Outward Bound School (OBS) but is now conducted by a consultant at... [Selangor Enforcement Training Centre (Pulapes)],” it said.
“If it was truly conducted by a consultant, does the consultant have a professional training background?”
Nik Nazmi said he had been made to understand that this was the first DPA course held after OBS’s contract was terminated due to budget cuts.
“The people should be told who is conducting the training because it seems to be of a lower standard than what was enjoyed previously,” Nurul Izzah added.
She also urged the Finance Ministry to issue a statement on Norhashimah’s death, not only because she worked for them, but because it was their decision to cut the DPA budget in the first place.
“We want a... response from the ministry, meaning the (Finance) minister himself,” the Lembah Pantai MP said.
“This was your officer. Without your officers you are nothing... They are the ones who do your homework and prepare your answers in parliament.”
The PKR Youth leaders wanted to know why Norhashimah was forced to undergo physical training even after showing signs of illness, and alleged that trainees were threatened with the prospect of repeating the whole seven-month course should they fail a module.
“For many families with young children... of course that’s something they do not want go through,” Nik Nazmi said.
The four leaders also said that doctors who treated Norhashimah claimed she was sent to hospital “too late”, adding that her medical records were not sent to hospital and that there was no doctor on-site in Jugra.
They demanded that the authorities suspend all on-going programmes until Norhashimah’s death has been fully investigated.
“This incident, as well as similar fatalities in our National Service Training Programme, raises serious questions about our government’s commitment to the welfare of the people under its care,” the statement read.
Selangor state assemblyman Amiruddin Shari added that questions should be raised in parliament as to the number of deaths, if any, in the DPA programme prior to this and their causes.
Nurul Izzah said that citizens who choose to serve the country surely deserved better treatment.
She added that other PTD officers who had undergone training with Norhashimah had complained about having to drink stocking-soaked water and being yelled at when ill.
“We want the best for them (PTD officers)... You surely do not to treat them in such a terrible manner. It’s not healthy for the country,” she said.
Norhashimah leaves behind husband Ahmad Zulhairi Zainal Abidin, 31, and two-year-old daughter, Nor Hylda Daenia.
The Royal Malaysian Air Force has denied any involvement in her training.
In a press statement, the defence ministry clarified that all programme modules were organised by the National Institute of Public Administration (Intan) and conducted by Pulapes.
The statement stressed that the training she underwent was not done under the RMAF or any unit under the RMAF banner.
Her family has vowed to lodge a police report over her death soon.

Why is it we are so keen on military training as a form of team or nation building? Time and again, there has been casualties from ordinary civilians in such programs as well as the National Service. Its as if we have no ideas at all and physical punishment is the cure to all social ills. This whole program seems like an opportunity for someone to make some money by offering some basic military training programs. Outward Bound has been the model all along. Why are we insisting we know better?
Can you now imagine what would be happening to our female National Service trainees? That's just at the tip of the ice-berg. There are more horror untold hidden stories

Over RM500,000 in bonuses paid to KSSB staff
Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) chairman Datuk Abdul Shukor Nagor revealed today that more than half a million ringgit in bonuses were paid to company staff after just ten months of operation.
The chairman of the state-owned sand-mining company revealed this at the Selangor Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) public hearing investigating graft allegations involving KSSB senior officials.
“The total bonus to KSSB staff for end June 2009 was RM503,613.59 and end December 2008 was RM137,500,” said Shukor during his testimony.
Shukor added that he had received a total of RM48,000 in bonuses for the period September 2008 till June 2009, while executive director Mohamed Ramli Abd Majed had received RM82,000.
Speaker Teng Chang Khim said that a total of 45 employees including senior officials had received bonuses.
The bonuses received by eight senior officials, including Shukor and Ramli, were equivalent to four months’ pay while 22 employees received only 1.5 months bonus, added Teng.
“If it (sand mining) is difficult, the bigger bonuses should be given to lower staff,” said Teng.
Shukor had cited the difficulty and danger of the sand-mining business in justifying the handout of large bonuses at the hearing yesterday.
“All I can say is the people at the top also work very hard,” answered Shukor.
The KSSB chairman also said that his company dids not have the right to issue licences to sand-mining contractors who plan to mine on private land, calling KSSB a “processing centre only”.
Teng pointed out that his statement contradicted Selangor executive councillor Yaakop Sapari, who had claimed yesterday that KSSB had the power to approve or deny permits to contractors mining on private land.
However, Shukor maintained his stand saying, “We do not have the power to approve.”
The Selcat chairman continued his cross-examination, saying that although there were 31 applications for sand-mining on private land, only nine applications reached the Land and Mining Office (PTG).
PTG had claimed that they had no knowledge about applications which were rejected by KSSB, added Teng.
However, the second witness, Ramli, said that PTG officials were present when applications were made through KSSB.
“So do they have full knowledge of all applications?” asked Teng.
“Yes,” answered Ramli.
The KSSB executive director revealed that there were 46 illegal sand mines in 23 locations throughout Selangor that were estimated to produce 3.6 million metric tonnes of sand, compared to KSSB’s sale of 1.7 million metric tonnes last year.
“We have informed PTG... and made 40 police reports,” said Ramli. “As far as I know, (there are) no prosecutions yet.”
Shukor claimed that KSSB did not monopolise the sand-mining market despite the fact that the company is Selangor’s sole subsidiary.
“Our 2009 market share was only 17 per cent. The bigger (share) is by unlicensed miners,” he said.
Seven people were charged early this year for graft related to illegal sand-mining in the state, including a police inspector and civil servants.
Ramli also denied negotiating prices or creating additional terms and conditions for contractors after awarding them tenders, countering allegations of such misdeeds raised by Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam previously.
“Once we award tenders, we do not negotiate prices,” said Ramli. “Conditions are as per conditions in the tender.”
Ramli revealed that KSSB’s royalties to the state government in 2009 amounted to RM5.7 million out of total sales amounting RM31 million.
This was a far cry from the state government’s forecast for the company to generate RM150 million annually.
KSSB’s board of directors comprises chairman Abdul Shukor Nagor, director Datuk Mohd Arif Abd Rahman, director Wong Su Kok, director Mohd Khairuddin Othman and executive director Ramli Abd Majed.
Selcat’s public hearing session today ended with testimonies by Ramli and Shukor.
Manikavasagam who had first highlighted this case was not called today and is expected to be called at the inquiry’s final session tomorrow.

Waa...I want to join Semesta too...and be one of its directors.
Done so little but still enjoy so much perks and bonuses. Where to find such a work place?
Selangor PR government must check Semesta outside-in, inside-out to get to the bottom of things. PR supporters expect CAT to be exercised all the time, else PR may be seen as spouting bunkum.
PR must buck up before it is too late to convince its supporters and voters, not only in Selangor but also nationwide.
If PR is really the antithesis of BN-UMNO, then it must set a high benchmark for all its workers and staff so that only the qualified and deserving are taken into its fold.
Please return 99% bonuses to Selangor government, there are still a lot of poor people in the kampong, estate or helping those City poors making a living ... no company in the world had given bonuses in less than a year operation amounted to half a million.... not even Bank Negara who printed the money !
Sand , tin ores, gold ...etc natural resources belongs to the state / country, so all gains shall get back to the people in the state / country, just like petroleum $ .
This bunch of clown claimed that their job is tough and dangerous. Are then our job easy and relax? Why don't they go to jail and join their comrade where security and 3 meals is provided.
Their excuses is a cover up of corruption again. Pakatan better wake up. Already more than 2 years in office and you are no better that BM. We will show you the exist when next GE comes.
Selangor state government must take immediate steps to kick out the directors and top management of KSSB. Its joke for him to say they have worked very hard. They have not even achieve a single accomplishment, the issues in the previous government just got worse with this bunch with the plunge in sand mining revenues, illegal sandmining etc. All they are good at is pointing fingers at other people for things that have gone wrong How can they justify the bonuses for the screwup job they have done.

Government to raise cremation fee
The cost of cremating the dead is expected to increase significantly when the government reviews the charges for public crematoriums soon.
Deputy Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk M. Saravanan said the cremation fee charged by government-managed crematoriums was low compared with the fee charged at privately-managed crematoriums.
According to Saravanan, the cremation fee at public crematoriums was RM100 compared with RM500 at private crematoriums.
“Based on the RM100 fee, the government has to subsidise RM400 for every cremated body and this is the cost based on 20 or 30 years ago.
“The time has come for the government to raise the fee to may be RM200 or RM300, to overcome the cost of maintaining and managing such crematoriums,” he told reporters after visiting the Putrajaya Crematorium here today.
He added that the government was also considering reserving special plots for the burial of dignitaries, especially at Hindu cemeteries, since there was no such allocation.
The Putrajaya Cemetery at Presint 20 comprises an area of 87.457 hectares, with 59.32 hectares allocated for a Muslim cemetery and 24.857 hectares for non-Muslim cemeteries

even when you're dead, the government is bullying you..
To die nowadays is not so easy. You will have to do some saving or otherwise your body will be floating in the nearest river.
This is absolutely rediculous, is Saravanan tries to the champion to launch the so-called subsidy cutting champion? As the arguement on Idris Jala's comment is still going on and the government is still in the dark of the mismanagement of funds at various department, I seriously think there is no reasons to talk about cutting down the susidies for now. There are major problems happening in MIC, please clean that up first lah..
Another government trick of earning from the 'rakyat'. Now even from the dead 'rakyat' are not to be spared. It show how desperate government want 'rakyat' money. Trying all sort of funny business idea (which they think are smart idea) by taxing 'rakyat' from this & that to fill the country empty coffer. To them BN government making money always are from the 'rakyat'. Their customer are always the 'rakyat'.
Where did they get their maths qualifications from?
"Based on the RM100 fee, the government has to subsidise RM400 for every cremated body "
That's RM500 for profit based ... not operation cost. stupid idiots.

TNB chief: People must accept gas subsidy reduction
Subsidy reduction for gas is a reality Malaysians must accept in the face of depleting natural gas resources and rising costs, said Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh.
The current subsidy Malaysians are enjoying is not a sustainable structure, he said.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala recently said Malaysia will be bankrupt by 2019 if it does not cut subsidies and reduce borrowings.
During the Subsidy Rationalisation Lab Open Day held last Friday, reducing gas subsidy and increasing electricity tariff were among the recommendations laid out to bring the country’s economy on solid grounds.
The move however is not expected to affect most households as it will only affect those consuming more than 200kWh of electricity.
The government is expected to continue to subsidise the groups of people using less than 200kWh who represent about 56 per cent of the population.
Speaking to Bernama after officiating TNB’s RM1.1 million new building for its Tanjung Malim office here today, Che Khalib asked: “Are you telling me 56 per cent of Malaysians belong to the group that you call hardcore poor?
“No, I don’t think so. I think the government is generous enough to come up with subsidy recommendation to maintain that 56 per cent population still enjoy the subsidised tariff.”
Citing Petronas, Che Khalib said the country’s gas volume was expected to go down by 2016 and despite this, Petronas would have to continue supplying for industries and TNB.
“Come year 2016, they will have to import more gas into the country to ensure gas volume is sufficient to power up our power plants and also for industries to use as well as to meet the growing demand,” he added.
At that point, the gas will be bought at market prices and not at subsidised prices, he said.
“Petronas has to buy expensive and sell cheap? (It’s) Double jeopardy. I don’t think this is a sustainable structure at all,” he reiterated.
Therefore, people have to appreciate the proposal at the Subsidy Rationalisation Lab Open Day for a gradual increase and not an abrupt increase in prices to a level that will affect the economic structure of the country, he said.
However, people could debate on the size of the increase or when the subsidy can be removed gradually, such as whether within five or 10 years, he said.
These decisions could be debated but to go on to say that subsidies remain forever, “I don’t think it is sustainable,” Che Khalib added.
On another development, he said TNB has allocated more than RM10 million to open about another 10 TNB new offices over the next one year to deliver better services to customers.
“Over the next one year, offices will be opened in places such as Grik, Sungai Siput, Parit Buntar and around six are expected to be opened in the second half of this year,” he added.
This is aimed at replacing old offices that are no longer suitable for operations to provide comfortable and efficient services to customers, he said.

Another hint government is going to suck the 'rakyat' soon by price increase of electricity. One of these day sure a smart minister will suggest to reduce parking space for cars throughout the country so that more parking summons, money will be made from 'rakyat'.
Both gas and electricity subsidies are to be cut. Guess who are going to maintain their enormous profits? The cronies-owned IPPs !! They will pay more for the gas and charge it to TNB which pass it on to the consumers.
Look like they are holding the rakyat to ransom. To avoid all this we will have to change BN to PR. Let Pr find the alternative.

Dr M says Idris Jala was ‘exaggerating’
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has criticized the report by Datuk Seri Idris Jala, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department who said that the country will go bankrupt if the subsidies were not reduced. Dr Mahathir said that Idris had exaggerated in his claims and that the country would instead become ‘poor’ and might not go bankrupt.
He said “Perhaps Idris (picture) was exaggerating. We are not going to be bankrupt but we are going to be poor. When the country is doing well, most people are working and they are creating wealth and then the government will tax them but in a recession that is when most of the people are unemployed and yet that is the time when we need the most amount of money. At the time when the country is in recession and the government has no money. We need to accept but I hope that the government will do this gradually and not suddenly pull the carpet from under your feet,”
He added that “In Malaysia, we must accept that when prices of raw materials go up then the prices of the end-product must also go up. You know the prices of petrol during my time was US$30 but at one time it went up to US$140. Imagine the amount of money that the government has to roll out. Especially now when our country’s oil production has been reduced to less than 500,000 barrels per day and we use more than 400,000 barrels a day. Therefore we only have 100,000 barrels to sell,”

What is the difference between bankrupt and poor Che Det ? Its how you define it, both are not favourable news for the country. Whichever way we look at it we are not doing good, that's the bottom line. Politicians like you will make it sound more smooth but Idris is not. He is an honest man and he made it very clear.

shame on the govt for making 'not the people choice' as Minister. Any candidate for ministership should be the one that was voted in by the rakyat and not the shortcut via senatorship. No wonder our parliment - senate & MP are filled by less intelligent people.
PM, Soi Lek defends Chua junior appointment
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek today defended the appointment of the latter’s son as deputy minister in yesterday’s Cabinet reshuffle, denying there was any form of nepotism involved or that they had brokered an agreement.
Instead, Soi Lek claimed that he had submitted Chua Tee Yong’s name to the prime minister for consideration as his son was one of the only two MPs in MCA who did not have and have never held any government post.
The MCA has 15 MPs in Parliament.
“We have 15 MPs. Out of this 15, 13 are either holding posts or have held posts before in the government.
“So I submitted the remaining two names — (Labis MP) Tee Yong and (Gelang Patah MP) Tan Ah Eng to the prime minister. That is your answer,” he told a press conference at Wisma MCA here this afternoon.
Soi Lek was asked to comment on speculation that a “gentlemen’s agreement” had been reached between him and Datuk Seri Najib Razak after he decided not to seek a spot in Cabinet.
Najib said that Tee Yong had been chosen based on his abilities.
The Prime Minister told reporters during a walkabout in SS2 today that he had screened through a list of potential candidates before making his decision and had found that Tee Yong fulfilled the criteria to fill the post.
He pointed out that Tee Yong’s age did not matter and that the first-term MP had not been chosen because his father was the MCA president.
During yesterday’s minor reshuffle, Tee Yong was appointed as deputy minister in the agriculture and agro-based industry ministry.
The junior politician has received much publicity of late after he moved from becoming a first-term MP to rise quickly in the party ranks, when he secured a spot in the party’s central committee during the March polls.
Since then, Tee Yong has been appointed to sit on the party’s presidential council under his father’s recommendation and has also been entrusted with the responsibility to monitor MCA’s assets estimated at over RM2 billion.
Soi Lek defended the move of offering Tee Yong’s name to the Prime Minister (PM) by saying that the MCA had little choice in the matter as it had so few elected representatives.
“Ideally, the posts of ministers and deputy ministers should be given to elected representatives.
“Having a lot of senators in those posts is not the best idea. However, under present circumstances, the MCA has no choice but to do this,” he explained.
He agreed that the Senate seemed more bloated than before but continued to reiterate that even the PM himself had no choice.
“This is the result of the 12th general election. We have to work with what we have,” he said.
When asked to comment on the Pakatan Rakyat’s stand that the prime minister should call for by-elections to allow the newly appointed senators to become elected representatives, Soi Lek said: “Well, they are entitled to their own opinion. Like I mentioned, this is the result of Elections 2008.”
“We in the MCA only have 15 MPs.”
He said, however, that the Constitution stipulates that senators could become ministers or deputy ministers.
“The only way to make a person a minister or deputy minister even if he or she is not an elected representative is through making the person a senator,” he said.
MCA vice-presidents Datuk Donald Lim and Gan Ping Sieu were made senators and subsequently given deputy ministerial posts in Najib’s administration.
From the MIC, the party’s deputy president Datuk G. Palanivel was made a senator and the deputy minister for plantation industries and commodities.

Chua is no different from Mahathir and Samy Vellu. Birds of the same feather flock together. At the end of the day, Ong Tee Keat is the most honourable. MCA is a useless party, fighting only for its own members and not the Chinese. Glad I did not vote MCA/BN and never will.
Do you actually believe that there is no 'deal' in the appointment? Actually only 2 persons living in Malaysia believe it - one newborn & the other just woke up from a decade long comatose.......
if Soi Lek has an ounce of honesty and integrity left, he should have avoided submitting his son's name to Najib. No amount of explaination will convince the rakyat there is no dealing with Najib. After all, Soi Lek's past is not exactly examplary.
New lease of life for Palanivel
After more than a month after being excluded from contesting in the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election, MIC deputy president Datuk G. Palanivel has been given a new lease of life with his appointment as Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister in a Cabinet reshuffle today.
Palanivel, who has been named as the successor after MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu’s proposed departure from active politics in September 2011, thanked both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Samy Vellu for the appointment.
“I want to thank the Prime Minister for including me in the Cabinet reshuffle. I also want to thank Datuk Seri Samy Vellu for the experience and expertise rendered to me,” he said when contacted today.
A former journalist with Bernama and press secretary to Samy Vellu, Palanivel (picture) made his debut in the 1990 general election by winning the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat and defended it for four terms before losing in the 2008 election.
He had previously served as deputy minister in the Rural Development Ministry and the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.
When the Hulu Selangor seat became vacant, Samy Vellu proposed his name but it was rejected by the Barisan Nasional leadership which then fielded MIC information chief P. Kamalanathan as the BN candidate for the April 25 election.
Palanivel was made a senator last month.
While the Cabinet reshuffle continued Palanivel’s political career, it was also a new beginning for People’s Progressive Party (PPP) senior vice-president Senator Datuk Maglin Dennis D’Cruz who was made Deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister.
PPP had previously asked Najib to drop its sacked supreme council member Datuk T. Murugiah, a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
But instead, Murugiah was retained while the Kuala Lumpur-born Maglin was appointed.
“I thank the party president for nominating me and the prime minister for appointing me as a senator and into the Cabinet. I am very happy with the appointment into an important ministry,” he said.
The Klang-based businessman, who is involved in the shipping industry, said he joined the party in 1996 and became a vice-president in 1998

He is number two in MIC but holds a deputy minister post. It is a laughing stock to all Malaysian. Either the PM is confused or lost what to do with MIC. It is real circle play for Malaysians to watch .
All appointed by merits compromised by the current govt but not based on required credentials and expertise. Just like filling in the blanks. And all these recycling doesn't make the country any greener.

He said that that agenda is still the same which is to deliberate on the issue which are affecting the Malay community. He said "Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will deliver the keynote address at Negeri Stadium to be attended by over 20,000 people including those form outside Terengganu,"
The rally which was originally planned for May 13 did not go down well with most quarters as many felt that running the even on the 41st anniversary of the May 13, 1969 racial riots were inappropriate and would serve as a reminder to the country’s darkest chapter in politics. Hence, it was called off and postponed

Sodomy II resumes tomorrow with visit to condominium
The Sodomy II trial resumed today with the defence team representing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim continuing its cross-examination of alleged victim Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan. The proceedings took a break from last week when Anwar failed to get a stay in proceedings. The trial began at 9.35 am with Mohd Zabidin Mohd Diah calls the trial to order. The defence lawyer Karpal Singh calls for the prosecution to provide a copy of the witness list and reported that they have failed to contact the owner of the condominium where the alleged act took place.
He said "We need assistance from the prosecution. I'm sure he (the condo owner) will be called (as a witness)."
In today’s proceedings, the members of the court were to visit the Desa Damansara condominium of the alleged sodomy act but was later postponed to tomorrow morning. According to one of the defence lawyers, Sankara Nair, "The police confirmed that the owner (of the Desa Damansara condo unit) is in Bukit Merah in Perak and can't make it today. Police will try arrangement for another visit to condo tomorrow morning,"
After that, the judge adjourned the trial today and will resume tomorrow after a visit to the condominium.

Samy Vellu is a liar, say former MIC leaders
Bharat Maniam with a document signed by Mahathir in 1983 that he says prevents Samy Vellu from hijacking MIED for his own benefit
Two former MIC leaders used previously unrevealed documents to knock Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu’s credibility in the most concerted attack against his presidency.
V. Subramaniam and K. P. Samy, both MIC central working committee (CWC) members who were sacked earlier this month for demanding Samy Vellu to step down, used the rostrum at a Gerakan Anti-Samy (GAS) gathering here to call the MIC president a liar.
V. Subramaniam, better known as Bharat Maniam, said he was in possession of a document signed by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 1983 that clearly sets out the ownership of Maju Institute of Education Development (MIED), the education arm of MIC.
“In 1983, Datuk Samy made an application to [Mahathir] for an approval... to set up MIED as an education of MIC or the Indian community,” he said.
“Only through this process [will] the government do funding subsequently, like what the government has funded AIMST (Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology) RM300 million.
“This is a document which I have that nobody can say it doesn’t belong to MIC... although he (Samy Vellu) is trying to hijack MIED from MIC.”
Samy Vellu has been accused by critics, including former MIED chief executive P. Chitrakala Vasu, of planning to turn MIED into a new and powerful personal fiefdom with his son Vel Paari at its head.
“Only me, I have this document. But the original document is deposited in the bank,” Subramaniam said, while holding aloft a photocopy of a letter bearing the former prime minister’s signature.
He was confident that Dr Mahathir would vouch for the veracity of the document if it is shown to him.
Another former MIC CWC member, K. P. Samy, gave the press copies of a page from the 2010 MIC budget showing the actual number of party members after a rousing speech to the 4,000 Indians who attended the event.
“Datuk Seri Samy Vellu is... full of lies, every day. Morning one lie, evening one lie, following day different [lies],” he said.
“He claimed that there are 600,000 [members] in MIC. The special general report released two months ago confirmed there’s only 410,000 members.”
K. P. Samy said that he was not able to reveal the party’s “secret papers” earlier as he was still part of the CWC.
“Now, I’m free to release [them].”
He promised to release more documents tomorrow through his lawyer proving that Samy Vellu was the cause of former MIC president Tun V. T. Sambanthan’s downfall.
“Datuk Seri Samy Vellu should relinquish his position for the benefit of Barisan Nasional, for the benefit of our beloved prime minister, for the benefit of the nation, for the benefit of the community and for the benefit of the economy.

Anwar: Trust in Khalid
PKF de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim defends Tan Sri Khalid and urges his party members to be patient with the Selangor MB.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today urged PKR members to have patience and confidence in Selangor mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, who faced criticism for mishandling the state.
Khalid has been under heavy scrutiny from his own party congress here after PKR’s loss in the Hulu Selangor by-election and a sand mining scandal.
Several delegates have said that Khalid should be replaced if he is not capable of managing the country’s most industrialised state.
Anwar defended his close ally and said that Khalid was a “sincere and clean” leader.
“When someone asked me how do I measure someone’s credibility? I said that it is very hard to some a leader that is sincere and clean. Where his record is clean and not corrupt,” the PKR de facto leader said when closing the congress.
He did admit that the state was plagued with problems.
“I invited Tan Sri Khalid to join the party, two year later we see problems. What you don’t know is that he does not have the absolute power as the mentri besar. Every step taken there is problems from the University to government agencies.
“We still have problems with religious council. I do not want to use this as an excuse for our not performing because to the rakyat, we cannot say that we have problems. The people want solution. That is why the problem has to be solved,” he said.
Anwar said that slow implementation of policies in Selangor was due to the country’s stagnant economy.
“The main problem is the slow implementation of the economic policies because the country’s dismal economy, investments is not coming in. Therefore Selangor must be more aggressive to ensure that projects approval will be expedited,” he said.
The former deputy prime minister also admitted that he needs to perform better as the state’s economic advisor.
However he said that the Selangor government has fulfilled its promise of clean government.
“If someone asks me how to evaluate the performance of Tan Sri Khalid or Pakatan Rakyat, what we will say is that the first thing that we promised is a clean and transparent government. With that we defend that Khalid has been successful.
“This is the most important issue because the country is broken due to corruption. This country is broken because ministers and mentri besar take people’s money, shares, land and timber. This is our war because of corrupted leaders that steal from the people. This is will not happen under Tan Sri Khalid. We must explain this matter to the public,” he said.
Anwar also agreed with the delegates demands that the state appoint party members to local government.
“I agree with the delegates but the candidate must be qualified. The candidate must only be a professional but have a clean track record. And we must be confident with the candidate because when he is at the helm of any GLCs, he would not be corrupt. We must give space to Tan Sri Khalid to ensure the right candidate,” he said.
Earlier, party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail reiterated the need for the members to patient with Khaild.
“Like any renovation, we must do it slowly. If we want to do a proper renovation then we have to do many things. So give him time, please be patient,” she said.
Dr Wan Azizah also warned that party should not be blinded with Putrajaya and not forget the root of their struggle.
“I want to give one message that we all have a stake in this party, you are not mere audience. How are you going to contribute to our struggle? Allah can’t change our fate, only we can” she said.
She also had a light moment with the delegates and joked about Anwar.
“Syamsul Iskandar earlier said that Anwar belongs to party. Anwar belongs to the people. Hey, he is my man lah,” she said.
Later during a press conference, Anwar said that the party will be looking to strengthening its leadership.
“I will discuss with President and deputy president on how we could strengthen the party leadership with new appointments. We will discuss on certain duties in several committees. We will decide on this matter in the next few days,” he said.

They are paid RM2mil claims Wan Azizah
(Bernama) - PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail claimed that party leaders who left the party were offered RM2 million as well as contracts.
She said the incident served as a lesson for the party in choosing its leaders and said that it also helped rid the party of negative elements.
To this end, the party would tighten the selection of candidates as well as carrying out leadership training, she said when opening the PKR national congress here Saturday.
She also reminded Selangor state government that the victory in the state in the 2008 general election was a conditional victory and not something that is permanent.
"The victory is not a given. The state government should continue to uphold the people's aspirations," said Wan Azizah who also called on the Selangor government to come up with a good governance index to ensure efficiency.

PKR says Utusan reporters not welcome at congress
Utusan Malaysia is "not welcome" at the three-day Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) national congress here, its deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali said.
However, the party would not chase reporters from the Malay daily out of the congress hall, he said.
"We won't stop them. They are not invited but we won't chase them away," he told reporters here Thursday night when asked about a text message received by several media representatives here informing that Utusan Malaysia reporters were not allowed to cover the congress.

So long as the publisher or reporter don't make them happy, they are not welcome. Some time ago it was Bukit Aman and Malaysiakini. Well what do you expect when you have biased politicking and biased reporting. Looks like they are all not welcome so far as the public is concern. Often it's easy to forget why you are there in the first place. Therefore deviation is a common phenomena.

Samy Vellu should surrender leadership
Amid the current political turmoil in the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), several political analysts opined one of the best ways for the party to regain the support of the Indian community was for its president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu to make way for new leadership.
Universiti Malaya Media Studies Department associate professor and founder of Zentrum Future Studies, Dr Abu Hassan Hasbullah said for one to better understand the real picture behind the current crisis faced by the party, one has to look at the influence and perspective of the Indian community in Malaysia.
"The Indian community has rejected the MIC, which was obvious during the 12th general general election of 2008, when the party produced tragic results. Almost all of the MIC's candidates failed to win.
"MIC has gone through a reformation for quite some time. What it needs now is a metamorphic process which can only be done with the resignation of Samy Vellu. His resignation would show him to be a responsible person," he said.
Confident that MIC's internal crisis will see an end only with Samy Vellu's resignation, Abu Hassan asked: "Why is there a crisis in MIC only now? Why didn't it happen back in the 80s?
"This is because MIC is not ready for the challenges of the 21st century. MIC's political strength is not in line with those challenges.
"One way to solve this problem is by surrendering his leadership to politicians who are more suited to lead the party into the future. It has to be a 'liberal relative' leadership and not authoritarian. The future leaders of MIC should be intellectual, pragmatic and practical. Young leaders such as P. Kamalanathan and V. Mugilan fit the bill," he said.
Abu Hassan urged MIC members to not only think about Indians but other races as well because they all depended on each other.
"Political power is not only determined by the minority, but also by the majority. Leaders, on the other hand, must have the nation's interest at heart."
He noted the current MIC leaders have been in the party since the time of Malaysia's late second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein and said they must give way to new leadership.
On the Anti-Samy Vellu Movement (GAS), he said the movement was a reflection of some MIC members love and appreciation of the party.
"The people who started the movement feel there should be a new leader and they have no channel to express their opinion. Thus, they formed GAS. It is not wrong to start such a movement because this is a democratic country.
"What MIC needs to do is to react to GAS. MIC members have to study what went wrong with the party. They have to believe the Indian community needs change," he said.
A political scientist at Monash University, Wong Chin Huat, thinks the core issue is MIC's existence.
"In today's environment, politics is going out of fashion. More parties are attuned to serving the entire nation.
"If MIC wants to defend the Indian community's interest, they need to frame their outlook within a national context. It is a known fact that Samy Vellu is not very popular among Indians. Thus, by stepping down, he will solve part of the problems in MIC.
"At the same time, however, if external help such as assistance from Umno is used to remove him, then MIC will risk looking like a puppet."
Wong also thinks Samy Vellu should be replaced by someone who has no link to any factions so as to gain legitimacy for MIC.
"MIC deputy-president G. Palanivel and former deputy president S. Subramaniam are considered viable options."
On GAS, he said the movement on its own would not be effective because Samy Vellu has a very strong hold on MIC.
"If GAS receives Umno's support, Samy Vellu would have no choice but to go."

Most of the component parties in BN has been a puppet for too long, thus losing the confidentiality of their communities. Everybody knows that BN has a very strong foundation and have rule the country. With domination of the rakyat's rights and needs, the sensitivity arose and they have lost trust with their community leaders. BN has been the voter's choice for the past generation and this perception has changed with today's matured and educated voters. The people needs major chances especially when most of our politicians are with the mindset of the Merdeka governess. The political conception has changed and the voters want better mileage & accountability in our expenditure, eradicating of our corrupt practices, freedom of press, eradicating political warfares that cause hatred, neutralization of our Judicial system, MACC, Election Commission, Police and last but not least a harmonic and peaceful country.
The current political scenario are chaotic with MCA being dormant by their community and this has worsen with the infighting in MIC. If both the main component parties in BN are weaken and turning to be irrelevant, it's like forcing the voter's in the communities to park their votes in a safe haven or stay as fence sitters in the next GE. BN should take the lead and several round table meetings between all parties, must be discuss with openness and sincerity. If they are not prepared for a 'realistic' change for a new political landscape, the end results will be severely felt in the next GE. Domination kills in our matured multi-cultural and religious society.
We don't need analysts or experts to tell us what is glaringly obvious. Of course their consensus helps to accentuate the already obvious. Say what you want but other races too apart from Indians are seeing and saying the same thing. MIC can say mind your own business but politics is public and people take note of the threatics. MIC has become pungent and emanates a lot of attention. Things have come to a stage where even a graceful exit might not be attainable for Samy. He should have left at the time when his constituents rejected him in the 2008 GE. What inspired him to cling on generated a lot of speculation and especially unwarranted ones.
