Umno will challenge Ibrahim Ali in Pasir Mas, says sec-gen
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (picture) said the party would not back Datuk Ibrahim Ali in the next general election as the Perkasa chief was eroding Barisan Nasional’s (BN) support among the non-Malays.
He also dismissed allegations that Umno had strong ties with the Malay rights group,
“Why should Umno support him? Umno should put a candidate in Pasir Mas. We will contest in Pasir Mas,” Tengku Adnan told The Malaysian Insider in an interview yesterday.
Ibrahim , who was sacked from Umno in 2004, won the Pasir Mas seat in Election 2008 under a PAS ticket.
In 2005, he contested as an independent in the Pengkalan Pasir by-election but obtained only 415 votes and lost his deposit. Pengkalan Pasir is a state constituency situated in the Pasir Mas town centre.
Ibrahim abandoned his partnership with PAS soon after Election 2008 and founded Perkasa to defend what he called the constitutional position of the Malays.
The group which has successfully attracted more than 50,000 members nationwide has been pressuring the Najib administration to state its support for pro-Bumiputera economic policy, despite the government’s attempt to liberalise the country’s economy.
Ibrahim has openly confronted Najib on his reforms.
Recently, Ibrahim challenged Datuk Seri Najib Razak to declare that his 1 Malaysia concept— introduced to promote national unity — was consistent with the concept of “Ketuanan Melayu” (Malay supremacy), which Ibrahim claimed to be constitutionally enshrined.
“As a secretary-general I can tell you, we have nothing to do with Perkasa, and certain things Perkasa is doing we are not happy [with], because they are eroding our support,” said Tengku Adnan when it was pointed out that many Perkasa members are from Umno.
“When they talk about my Chinese friends or my Indian friends, they make us lose more votes,” he added.
Tengku Adnan reminded Perkasa leaders that BN had to address the needs of all racial groups in the country and could not afford to discriminate against anyone if it wanted to continue governing Malaysia.
“Please slow down. Whatever you do, please think properly. What is the end result? What do you want for Malaysia? You want a civil war?” asked Tengku Adnan.
“I know when I say this, the Perkasa members will attack me,” he added.
Tengku Adnan also dismissed the need to talk to Ibrahim over the matter.
“I don’t have to talk to him. It is not easy to talk to Datuk Ibrahim Ali, let’s just leave him in his own world,” he said.
Tengku Adnan stressed that most Perkasa leaders were those who were defeated in the last Umno election in 2008 and sought a political platform for them to be heard.
“They are not wanted in Umno, they are no more leaders they are just ordinary members,” he said.
Tengku Adnan, however, admitted that some grassroots Umno leaders were also active in Perkasa.
“In my division, my vice-chief is also the Putrajaya Perkasa chief. He asked me for permission, I said you can join but I told him don’t destroy the country,” he added referring to Nordin Hassan.

First clear message from UMNO. Now Ibrahim Ali knows where he stands. He only has the support of the UMNO has-beens.
He can take on Khairy in Rembau in the next GE. Let us see who had more support - the immature young man or the immature old man. He has burned his sampan with PAS.
Sack all UMNO members who are part of Perkasa to show you are sincere in your words and then compete with fairness and competency with PR to form a two party government. If you can't do that then you're just paying lip service! The inactions by UMNO government to curb Perkasa has already lost all the non-Malay votes. You have an uphill task to prove your words. LOL

Ibrahim Ali says Umno sec-gen does not want Malay votes
Malay rights group Perkasa chief Datuk Ibrahim Ali accused Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today of favouring Chinese voters over the Malays.
His remarks were in response to Tengku Adnan’s statement today that the party would not back Ibrahim in the next general election as he was allegedly eroding Barisan Nasional’s (BN) support among the non-Malays.
“He (Tengku Adnan) wants Chinese votes. He does not want Malay votes,” Ibrahim told The Malaysian Insider today.
He, however, refused to elaborate further, saying: “No need. This is enough.”
The firebrand politician’s reaction to Tengku Adnan was unusually muted compared to the scathing insults he had recently hurled at Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin for issuing a similar statement.
Ibrahim had called Khairy “stupid”, “crazy”, “feeble-minded” and a “confused child”.
Like Tengku Adnan, Khairy also reportedly said that Perkasa was one of the reasons behind the waning support of non-Malay voters for the ruling coalition.
Ibrahim brushed off the Rembau MP’s statement as the “talk of a stupid, brainless person” and said that Umno was being destroyed because of “feeble-minded” people like Khairy.
The Pasir Mas MP also singled out alleged public hatred of Khairy as the reason behind BN’s historic losses in the last general election.
Last month, Ibrahim called Khairy “mentally ill” for threatening to leave Umno if the majority of its members supported Perkasa.
Tengku Adnan, however, dismissed allegations that Umno had strong ties with the Malay rights group and said that his party would contest the Pasir Mas seat.
He stressed that most Perkasa leaders were defeated candidates in the last Umno election in 2008 who merely sought a political platform to be heard.
The Umno secretary-general had reminded Perkasa leaders to monitor their fight for Malay rights before it spiralled out of control, which could end in a civil war.
He noted that BN had to address the needs of all racial groups in the country and could not afford to discriminate against anyone if it wanted to continue governing Malaysia.
Perkasa has been pressuring the Najib administration to protect what the group calls the constitutional right of the Malays, despite widespread acknowledgement that four decades of affirmative action have hurt the country’s competitiveness.
Recently, Ibrahim challenged Datuk Seri Najib Razak to declare that his 1 Malaysia concept — introduced to promote national unity — was based on the concept of “Ketuanan Melayu” (Malay supremacy), which Ibrahim claimed to be enshrined in the Constitution.

He is a REAL idiot!!! ,,,,,more like a UMNO clown ....
We Malaysians need Ibrahim Ali entertaiments and we are very sure his time as MP are reducing as I am typing this comments.
Whether UMNO support Ibrahim Ali is No longer relevant as Malaysians have basically make up our mind and determine to give Pakatan Rakyat as alternative solution in view of all the Daily Nonsense going on.
Enough is Enough !!!
Malaysians can no longer be manipulate forever and taken for free ride always.
This idiot just cannot shut up. He wants all kinds of economic percentage for the Malays. But what is percentage? If say.. I give 60% of the whole economy to Malays... but because of that move, non-Malays move out of the country and the whole economy is worth only millions as compared to billions previously, then what is 60% worth anymore? If IA really wants the Malays to progress, then he should think how to start contributing to Malaysia's performance on the global arena, rather then shouting non-stop.

Home ministry's appeal on RPK release postponed
(Bernama) -- The Federal Court today adjourned the hearing of an appeal by the Home Ministry against the High Court's decision to release blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin from two-year detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA) to a date to be fixed.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah informed the panel led by Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Arifin Zakaria, that the prosecution had not served the notice of appeal on Raja Petra, the reason for his absence today.
Justice Arifin who sat with Federal Court justices Datuk Hashim Yusof and Tan Sri James Foong Cheng Yuen granted the prosecution's application to adjourn the appeal, as they had not served the notice on Raja Petra, who is the editor of the web portal Malaysia Today.
When asked by Justice Hashim on the chances of serving the notice on Raja Petra, Tun Majid replied: "Raja Petra's address is still unknown."
Raja Petra's counsel Malik Imtiaz Sarwar told the court that the appeal had become academic because the minister's order to detain him for two years had already expired.
"The matter is academic but it's nothing to stop the minister to issue a new order as it's already two years," he said.
Tun Majid replied that the minister's order would become academic after Sept 21, 2010.
Speaking to reporters later, Tun Majid said the prosecution did not know Raja Petra's whereabouts as his right address was not known to the prosecution. On Nov 7, 2008, the Shah Alam High Court ordered the release of Raja Petra from ISA detention after ruling that his two-year detention at the Kamunting detention camp in Taiping was unlawful.
Raja Petra was arrested on Sept 12, 2008 as he was deemed a threat to national security and the order to detain him under the ISA was issued on Sept 22, 2008.
Raja Petra was detained on the grounds that he, among others, owned and operated the Malaysia Today website and had intentionally and recklessly published his articles and also readers' comments on Malaysia Today that were critical of and insulted Muslims, the purity of Islam and the personality of Prophet Muhammad.
In filing the habeas corpus application, Raja Petra had named the Home Minister as the respondent.

Teo did not deliver tazkirah, sacked surau chairman claims
Sacked Surau Al-Huda committee chairman Azemi Ahmad has refuted Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s claim that Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching had delivered a “tazkirah” during her controversial visit last month.
He told The Malaysian Insider that the prime minister had obtained “wrong information” and insisted that Teo’s speech had not touched on religious matters.
“He has received the wrong information obviously. She only spoke about the education loan scheme by the Selangor state government for entry into public universities.
“To deliver a tazkirah, on the other hand, means she would have to touch on religious issues, to talk about Islam. She did not do that,” Azemi said when contacted.
As such, he insisted that neither Teo nor the sacked mosque committee had committed any wrong in the matter.
When commenting on the issue yesterday, Najib insisted that Teo (picture) had violated the fatwa issued by the National Fatwa Council in March this year.
The council had decided that non-Muslim tourists could enter mosques and prayer rooms on condition that they received permission from the respective managements and that their actions did not violate the sanctity of the mosque.
Najib had also claimed that Teo had committed another offence by delivering a tazkirah (sermon) during her visit.
“Only Muslims are allowed to deliver tazkirah in mosques or surau. If a non-Muslim enters a mosque and start giving a tazkirah to the Muslims, that is against the teachings of the Prophet,” he had said.
Azemi also claimed that Teo had not violated the fatwa or decree despite her failure to cover her hair when she entered the surau’s main prayer hall.
“It is just manners to wear the tudung. She is a non-Muslim so it is not exactly a must for her to wear it... it is by choice and just manners and yes, it is encouraged.
“But like I said, as a non-Muslim, it is not a must. It is an obligation and a must for Muslims to wear it,” he said.
Former Perlis Mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin also disagreed with Najib that Teo had violated the fatwa, pointing out that the decree specifically states that non-Muslims could enter mosques.
“I will not focus on the tazkirah because I was not present when Teo delivered her speech. But of course, like I have mentioned before, the surau should not be used for political purposes.
“But my focus now is on whether a non-Muslim can enter the mosque and the answer to that is – Yes,” he said.
On the issue of Teo’s failure to cover her hair with a scarf or tudung, Dr Asri pointed out that many Umno members had done the same themselves.
“It is not exactly wrong in Teo’s case because she is not a Muslim. It is just that those who enter the mosque should respect it by covering themselves.
“Just like if I were to go to the Prime Minister’s office or the Mentri Besar’s office, I would have to dress respectfully, in order to keep with the culture of the place. It is just common understanding,” he said.
However, Dr Asri insisted that it was not Teo’s fault for not wearing the headscarf.
“It is the fault of the mosque committee, not hers. They should have informed her, and she should not be expected to know because she is not a Muslim. As Muslims and caretakers of the mosque, the committee should be the one to inform her,” he said.
He urged the National Fatwa Council to hold a briefing with all surau and mosque committees to determine the proper procedure of things so that similar misunderstandings would not recur.
“Who knows, they might one day change the fatwa again because they see different practices outside the country. They would see (US president) Barack Obama entering a mosque somewhere and then they would change the fatwa.
“We need more uniformity and we need to advise the mosque committees on what they should do,” he said.
Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria however agreed with Najib that Teo had violated the council’s fatwa, pointing out that such decrees were applicable to all, including non-Muslims.
“It is a law and all are bound by it. In this case, she went against it because she did not cover her hair when she walked in and she also delivered a speech inside the prayer hall.
“Non-Muslims can enter the mosque, under the religion, but they must respect the rules and sanctity of the place. This means that they must tutup aurat,” he said.
Teo’s visit last month had sparked off much religious tension in the nation as Muslim leaders from both sides of the political divide scrambled to issue differing views on the matter.
Malay rights group Perkasa demanded for syariah laws to be created to ban non-Muslims from entering mosques and suraus while Pakatan Rakyat leaders chose instead to back Teo in her move.
Teo has since written to the Selangor Sultan to explain her visit after the Selangor religious department (Mais) claimed that she had displeased the ruler.
Mais had also claimed to have sent a warning letter to Teo. It has also taken over the management of the surau and a new committee has replaced the one chaired by Azemi.

Just who is lying? Even the PM is now involved. In this holy month of Ramadan, it is sad to see that politics had taken more importance than Islam, the religion that every one in UMNO/Perkasa is said to be protecting and championing.
Just leave race and religion alone. Desperate UMNO/BN will go to great length to protect their political and financial interests, but, you cannot fight "peoples power". If you got to go, you got to go and the results of PRU 13 will shamed UMNO/Perkasa and they will regret. Malaysians are not going to be conned again. If you really love the Malays, where are the 52 billion in shares allocated to the Malays? If you really love the Malays, build each and every Malay family a single storey terrace house nationwide.
Lim Guan Eng built double storey houses for the villagers of Kampung Buah Pala, we only request a single storey house for all Malays. Can you do it UMNO/BN? Do you care? No, you do not.

Pornthip-Razak verbal joust video a hit online
Similar to the 2007 Datuk V.K.Lingam “correct, correct, correct” video, a new recording has been making cyberspace waves since its debut — showcasing MACC prosecution chief Datuk Abdul Razak Musa and Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand.
During the forensic expert’s second testimony for the Teoh Beng Hock inquest on August 18, Pornthip made the headlines for famously asserting “I work for the rights of the dead” and followed-up by asking Abdul Razak on whether he was indeed a lawyer.
With that story appearing relentlessly on newspapers, online sites and television, the public waited with bated breath for its online release.
The three-hour long 805MB video clip was however only uploaded on the Attorney-General Chambers website more than a week after the lively proceedings, after much public pressure.
Now, the video clips can be found across cyberspace, with thousands clamouring for it.
Already this latest blockbuster has received thousands of hits online and may likely go down Malaysia’s history as one of the most laughable displays of the Malaysian civil service at its worst.
On broadcast site Youtube.com, the clip was divided into eight parts, labelled under the title “Malaysia’s funniest and tragic court video”.
The first clip, which is 10 minutes long, has attracted 138,782 views and almost 500 comments as of this afternoon. The remaining seven clips attracted between 30,000 and 60,000 views each.
On her own the experienced Dr Pornthip is quite a character to have, made rich by her trademark rockstar look and impressive resume.
But paired alongside Abdul Razak, in his penguin suit and feeble attempts to speak English, it is no wonder the video has caused such a stir.
Comments on the site centre zero-in on Abdul Razak’s poor English and his “illogical line of questioning”. One person even suggested that the video be used in law schools to show “how to fail your law exam”.
Indeed, what was meant to be a cross-examination session turned instead into courtroom comedy with Dr Pornthip successfully outwitting her co-star Abdul Razak with her calm confidence and unfettered testimony.
Despite Abdul Razak’s relentless attacks on her professional qualifications, Dr Pornthip held her own and even succeeded, several times, to trigger applause from the packed court gallery with her quips.
At one point, Dr Pornthip scolds Abdul Razak for his attempt to discredit her graduating university, Mahidol University, by pointing out that Malaysia’s medical laws did not recognise it.
“I think the quality of the work does not depend on the certificate (from the university). You cannot look down on Asian experts,” she said.
She then pointed out that Mahidol University was one of Asia’s top five universities.
Abdul Razak scrambled with a comeback of his own when the gallery erupted in mocking laughter and said: “Either top one or top two, its nevermind but we have the law. We have the law – the medical act. So that’s why you are not allowed to conduct the second post-portem. Because you are not qualified.”
His reply only triggered sniggers from the audience.
Perhaps one of the most memorable comebacks made by the expert was when she reminded the court of her role in the case, which was not to side with any particular party but to carry out her duties as a forensic expert.
“You have to understand. I work for the rights of the dead, not for the Selangor, or for the Malaysian or for the Thailand governments. So in this case, I try to find whether I can help from the evidence... without the benefit from anyone,” she said.
Her statement was followed by a round of rousing applause from the gallery and already, the line has been repeatedly used as a quotable quote by many bloggers and politicians.
Perhaps buoyed by the apparent support she had from the watching crowd, Dr Pornthip later even dared to question Abdul Razak’s own credibility as a lawyer.
When discussing the fracture found on Teoh’s head, Abdul Razak pointed out that he had spent three days to read through Dr Pornthip’s autopsy report.
Giggles were heard in the audience and defence lawyer Gobind Singh Deo was heard muttering that his opponent needed a few months to study the report.
When Abdul Razak asked Dr Pornthip what type of weapon could have caused the injury, she flippantly said, “I have question, whether you are a lawyer or not?”.
The laughter that erupted was deafening.
“Maybe I’m younger than you but I already serve 24 years as a lawyer,” said Abdul Razak, in reply.
Yet another scene in the video that has become much talked about is when Abdul Razak suggested that the political aide Teoh had strangled himself then jumped out the window.
Abdul Razak, in pointing out that no other doctor had found evidence of strangulation, asked if Teoh had strangled himself.
Gobind leapt to respond to this and asked Abdul Razak how a person could do such a thing.
“You can,” Abdul Razak claimed.
“Can you show us how you...,” Gobind replied.
“Like this...,” said Abdul Razak and while using both hands, one in front and the other at the back, grabbed his own neck and demonstrated to the courtroom just how a person could strangle himself.
DAP Socialist Youth chief Anthony Loke described Abdul Razak’s suggestion as the “joke of the century”.
“It is really a big joke. I laughed and laughed when I heard it and now, everyone is laughing,” he said, noting that Abdul Razak would find it hard to live down this sore point in his career.
Now, added the Rasa MP, the story has become a hot topic for Pakatan Rakyat leaders in their ceramah speeches.
“The audience loves the story. They laugh and laugh whenever we tell the story that Teoh could have strangled himself then jumped off the window sill,” he said.
He added that another stupid assertion Abdul Razak had made was when he asked Dr Pornthip whether she’s ever jumped out of a window.
“It is stupid. Are you saying that when you get a pathologist to testify in a rape trial, you are going to ask her if she has been raped before? Because if she has not been raped before then she would not be able to tell if the person had been raped?” said Loke.
Loke noted that the video would likely mark a black spot in MACC’s (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) professional integrity.
“It just reflects badly on the level of competency of our MACC people,” he said.
PKR chief strategist Chua Tian Chang said he was more embarrassed by the video clip then amused, pointing out that it was a clear reflection of the farce that the whole inquest had become.
“I do not even need to speak about it... everyone else already is, on Facebook, on Twitter, everyone is talking about it and they are laughing. And now the video is online... so the whole world can laugh at us. This is a total embarrassment... it shows the mindset and mentality and quality of the MACC lawyer,” he said.
He agreed that like the Lingam video, this new clip would likely become an object of entertainment for the Malaysian public.
Indeed, if one were to mention to any politically savvy Malaysian the line “correct, correct, correct” meant, they would likely laugh and repeat those famous words themselves.
In fact, the video, which shows Lingam allegedly brokering the appointments of top judges over the phone, is still used by many opposition leaders as anecdotes to punctuate their political speeches.
Chances are also that the same person who knows the “correct, correct, correct” line would likely also be able to describe MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s physical attributes and what his partner had worn when they were caught on camera at the hotel room in Johor in 2007.
They would also likely have seen Namewee’s latest “Nah!” clip or his old “Negarakuku” production and may have also once admittedly made jokes once about PKR’s Elizabeth Wong, after her private photos were exposed to the public.
“Well what can I say, we seem to be getting a hang of producing things like this for public consumption. Its all a big farce,” Chua said.

The part in which the MACC lawyer demonstrated the method of strangling oneself,.......it was like I had dropped into another dimension, Cartoon World.
There is no greater indictment of our Malaysian education system, the NEP and its failure!
This is an embarrassment and shame that will forever live in history.
I wonder what Ibrahim Ali and Mahathir has to say.!
You see for yourself how incompetent he is... for the benefit of MI readers, I decided to post the link for all of you.

It is supposed to be an inquest to find out who is the killer but Datuk Razak has made it to be discrediting Ms Pornthip's testimony.
At one instance, he says ALL 4 pathologist disagreed with her and he tells Dr Pornthip that in Malaysia we go by majority ...how stupid can you get...
The questions that he asks is totally not relevant to the issues, Dr Porthip is not the investigation officer - she is a forensic scientist who looks at the evidence Post-Mortem and not after TBH has been murdered.
Have a good laugh my friends... and remember our DATUK RAZAK's ...low ENglish Competency and Knowledge..
The quality of this loyar buruk is so hiarious, it borders on incompetence. He should be disbarred, and stripped of his Datoship. Utter incompetence reflecting the quality of MACC itself. Disgraceful. If this was how TBH was questioned, no wonder he chose to end his life. Nobody could withstand such tactics during interrogation.
So my theory goes that during interrogation, TBH laughed so much, that the MACC officers became agitated and threw him out the window.
Zaid Ibrahim,"Will I end up buried like Ghafar Baba?'.......
Zaid Ibrahim, who has thrown his hat into the ring for PKR deputy president's post, feared that he may end up buried in the upcoming party leadership polls as Ghafar Baba was back in 1993. He recalled how the former deputy prime minister was so badly undermined by Umno leaders that he had to withdraw from defending his No 2 post in the party.Zaid lamented that a year ago he was hailed a hero, but is now labelled as an Umno agent out to destroy PKR.
The PKR supreme council member, who joined PKR in 2008, expressed regret that his decision to contest in the upcoming party polls has caused “unease” amongst certain quarters.
“Someone even paid a popular Malay blogger to tarnish my name. The blogger was asked to write that I will pay RM20,000 to the branch that nominates me, and write that I was tasked by (former finance minister) Daim Zainuddin to come in and destroy PKR,” he said in a statement which was released yesterday but embargoed until 7am today.
“My loyalty has also been questioned by certain PKR parliamentarians, but loyalty to whom, they did not mentioned. Perhaps I am not loyal to the party cause or to the highest leadership, I don't know,” he said.
“Perhaps these MPs will come forward and explain why my nomination will not be supported come Monday (today) at their press conferences to show their support for the great Anwar Ibrahim-Azmin Ali combination,” he sniped.
Zaid appeared to resign to the possibility that Anwar may team up with his long-time loyalist Azmin as candidates for president and deputy president respectively. According to Zaid, incumbent president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail could be asked to give way, while current deputy president Syed Husin Ali is also expected not to defend his post.
His statement to the media yesterday came hot in the heels of increasing talks within party circles that Anwar is likely to swing his formidable political weight behind his former political aide, Azmin. This is despite that the party supremo was instrumental in convincing Zaid to join PKR two years ago. Azmin recently took over as Selangor PKR chief from Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, while Zaid was appointed the party's Federal Territories chief.
'PKR must practice what it preaches'
The former de facto law minister finds it peculiar that a year ago he was hailed a “hero” and a “brave, principled political champion unconcerned with power and post”, and yet today he is considered a "troublemaker and one who will sell the party out to Umno.” Zaid notes that personal attacks against him has stepped up ahead of the party polls, adding sarcastically that during the Hulu Selangor by-election it was Umno who had “bludgeoned” him.
“I joined Keadilan because I want this party to work with Pakatan (Rakyat) to change the culture and political power in this country so that Malaysians can have a government that is just and fair.
“In this struggle, my loyalty has not budged an inch... that is why I am offering myself to the contest,” he said.
According to him, for PKR to be able to change the political culture of this country, it must first to practice the principles that it holds dear within the party.
“I will explain this further during my campaign,” he said.
Zaid had announced yesterday that he was contesting the party No 2 post while breaking fast in Kuantan with 30 Pahang liaison committee and party members. He conceded that while he was not “blindly loyal”, he is part of a political organisation that is democratic and one that is open to criticism. PKR, he said, is not a “cult organisation” whose members “deify their supreme leaders”
“I support those who are honest and wise, and shun those who are pretentious. If that means I am not loyal, then let the members decide my fate,” he said.
He may suffer Ghafar's fate
Zaid revealed that he had been warned he would be buried in the race as Ghafar was.Ghafar was appointed as deputy in 1986 by then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad after rival Musa Hitam quit the post. The veteran leader, who was older than Mahathir, was challenged at the 1993 Umno polls by up-and-coming leader Anwar, who had cut his political teeth as party's Youth chief and later vice-president.
“I remember the incident in 1993 where Ghafar was bashed by Umno until he could not garner enough nominations and had to withdraw,” said Zaid.
“His years of loyal service to the party - all forgotten just like that. They couldn't even afford him a little respect by supporting his nomination just because there was a new hero emerging at the time - Anwar Ibrahim,” said Zaid, without any hint of irony.
In the run-up to the 1993 party election, Anwar had assembled a formidable team of Umno leaders to back his candidacy at a press conference. When Ghafar realised that he would be unable to secure the required nominations from the party, he withdrew from the contest.
“I cannot forget seeing the dismay and weariness on Ghafar's face in Masjid Telipot in Kota Bharu, sitting alone on the stairs of the masjid," said Zaid.
“I greeted him and told him that I too had lost the Kota Bharu division contest so I could not help him. He just nodded.
“If my fate is to end up like Pak Ghafar, so be it. In my political struggle, the math is simple. If it is the truth, I will support. If it is false, I will oppose it,” said Zaid.
Guan Eng blames Muhyiddin for ‘racist’ civil service
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today blamed Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for failing to act on reports of racism in the civil service over the past weeks.
Lim said that the move by the Education Ministry’s Director-General Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom in issuing a circular on August 26, warning that action would be taken against those “who made racist remarks” was irrelevant as it did not address the “real problem.”
“The Education Ministry’s latest circular to warn school principals and teachers against making racist remarks is irrelevant as it fails to address the real problems. Blaming the principals and teachers is merely an act of finding a scapegoat,” said Lim in a statement today.
Lim claimed that the warning should instead be directed to Muhyiddin, the education minister, for failing to act and condoning the racist remarks made by two school principals in Kulai, Johor and Kedah recently.
“Umno leaders should refrain from racist politics before pointing fingers to others. The buck should stop at Tan Sri Muhyiddin. If Muhyiddin continues to tolerate racist behaviour among Umno leaders and members, it is not surprising that it has infected the civil service, including school principals and teachers. Stern actions must be taken to resolve this problem, said Lim.
The Penang Chief Minister said that the Education Ministry’s move in issuing a circular reflected badly on the country’s education system, adding that principals, teachers and other school staff should themselves be aware that uttering racist remarks was wrong.
“By issuing the circular, it shows that something is seriously wrong with our education system. The principals, teachers and other school staff should already know a long time ago, even on the first day on their job that uttering racist remarks is wrong, illegal and against the basic principles of their vocation. It is such a shameful situation where teachers have to be reminded that racism is both wrong and bad. What will the students think?
“We have high hopes on our school principals and teachers. They are teaching our children to be good and responsible citizens. After 53 years of Merdeka, is this our education system’s greatest achievement?” said Lim.
The Najib administration has yet to announce whether it planned to punish Johor school principal Siti Inshah Mansor for allegedly uttering racial slurs.
Muhyiddin said last weekend that the buck was now in the hands of the “enforcement authority” to decide on what form of action to take against the Johor principal.
Before that, Muhyiddin had directed Education director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom to set up a task force to probe the incident.
Alimuddin had previously invited flak when he claimed shortly after the incident that it was merely a misunderstanding and had been settled between the principal and the school parents.
Siti Inshah entered the limelight recently after she allegedly told the SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman school assembly that the Chinese could go back to China and that the Indians looked like “dogs” when they wore their prayer strings.
“Muhyiddin should stop playing politics and seriously think of the impact on our multiracial country. Racism is beyond party politics; it is a cancer that can destroy all of us, regardless of one’s creed, colour and class,” said Lim.

Muhyiddin is the by-product of Bapa Racis Mahathir both are equally racist in thoughts and culture !!!!!! Wont be surprised Bapa racis will eliminate Najib and replaced him with Muhyiddin as what he did to Ahmad Badawi with the betrayal of Muhyiddin against AB !!!!!!
this racist cancer has spread far and wide.as long as umno is in power I am not optimistic there will be any improvement. The poliitcal will is just not there especially among these top leaders
In another country, a minister who committed what Muh had done would have already been given the boot a long time ago. Or for that matter, in any reputable private organisation, a worker who acted in the way Muh had would have been severely dealt with and disciplined.
That speaks so much about the quality of leadership in the country and the defective system it is subjected to.

Retiring IGP decries third-party meddling
Outgoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Musa Hassan today spoke out against what he saw as excessive interference by “third parties” in police business, naming the Home Ministry among others.
“All kinds of people interfere. People from the ministry itself, outsiders, people with vested interests like those who want to do things that are not right — they will try to interfere,” he said.
“The ministry I mentioned is the Home Ministry, of course. Other ministries cannot give me orders,” he added, when asked to clarify.
Musa (picture) stressed that these third parties should not give orders to police subordinates without the knowledge of the senior police leadership as this sometimes stopped the force from carrying out its duties.
“If interference occurs... this is a wrong action because it is not in line with command and control,” he said.
“We don’t want others to give our officers orders that, if carried out, are wrong. That’s why it must be direct command and control from senior officers from the police themselves, and no outsiders to dictate what to do.”
comments
Orders from outsiders have given the police a bad image. How can the police perform when there are interference from outsiders. This started during the Mahathir era and is continuing. I hope the new IGP will act tough with outsiders. Only then will the image of the police force improve. Our new IGP must get these outsiders arrested and charged. For our country to be safe and secured it is very important that the police force is respected by the public.

Najib insists Teo violated fatwa with surau visit
Datuk Seri Najib Razak waded today into Teo Nie Ching’s controversial surau visit, saying the Serdang MP violated the National Fatwa Council’s decree when she entered the prayer hall of Surau Al-Huda, Kajang last month.
The prime minister said the fatwa issued last March made it clear that non-Muslims must get permission from the mosque and be appropriately attired before entering a mosque.
Citing the fatwa, Najib said that non-Muslim tourists may enter mosques and prayer rooms with the condition that they receive permission from the respective management and ensure that their actions do not violate the sanctity of the mosque.
Teo had entered the prayer with her hair uncovered. Women are required to cover their when entering a mosque.
“This guideline is what they must adhere to before entering a mosque,” said Najib in his speech at a breaking of fast event here.
The Selangor Umno chief also claimed that Teo committed another offence by delivering a tazkirah (sermon) during her visit.
“Only Muslims are allowed to deliver tazkirah in mosques or surau. If a non-Muslim enters a mosque and start giving tazkirah to the Muslims, that is against the teachings of the Prophet,” said Najib citing the Prophet’s tradition to back his claim.
He added that the Sultan of Selangor and the state Islamic administration enactment also forbid the non-Muslims from entering the main prayer hall.
Teo’s visit to the surau drew Umno’s ire as well as Malay rights pressure group Perkasa’s, with the latter calling for a ban on non-Muslims from entering mosques and suraus. The state Islamic council, Mais also claimed that the visit displeased the Selangor Sultan.
Pakatan Rakyat leaders including PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat have come out in Teo’s defence.
Teo had been warned by Mais not to repeat her action and she has apologised to the Sultan of Selangor.
Teo had also denied delivering a sermon in the surau adding that she was only sharing about the state’s education assistance initiative.
The first term MP had expressed dismay that her visit has been turned into a controversy and blamed Umno and Malay daily, Utusan Malaysia for politicising the issue.

Another proof that 1Malaysia is just a slogan. By criticizing Teo, but keeping quiet over the two racist school principals, he is showing why no one should vote for Umno. He is also showing that he shares the same stand as Muhyiddin, and they are just pretending to be "one good cop, one bad cop."
The two racist school principals are merely racists, but the protectors of racists, which is Umno, are hard-core racists that will never change. It is the duty of every justice-minded and fair-minded rakyat to vote out these useless leaders.
Now it is confirmed that Najib has totally lost his marbles.
I have absolutely no hope that this PM will ever achieve anything good for this country.
An honorable person would not misuse religion in politics.
UMNO has usurped the powers of Allah.
Good he come out in defence of UMNO. This will make the non-malays understand why he never put a stop to all this nonsense by Ibrahim Ali, Muhiyuddin, Hisham and cow head members...
His true colors is showing...kick him out. I will take PAS as a leader of Malaysia - anytime!!!

Gerakan rocked by growing disillusion
GEORGE TOWN: The political temperature in the Pearl of the Orient is expected to heat up in the coming weeks as Penang Gerakan is now believed to be facing a state leadership crisis. With PKR and DAP holding their respective party elections in the coming months while Umno prepares for its annual general assembly next month, Gerakan has suddenly now also generated public interest following a stunning announcement by its state chairman Dr Teng Hock Nan.
On Saturday, Teng unexpectedly revealed that there is a group out to oust him.
Gerakan was once considered the political mainstay in Penang, having ruled the state since 1969.
The party, formed by the late Dr Syed Hussin Alatas, is mostly a Penang and Perak-based party judging from the election of its leaders from both states.
The current president is Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dr Koh Tsu Koon, a former long-serving Penang chief minister while the secretary-general is Teng Chang Yeow, the younger brother of Teng Chang Khim, who is the Selangor DAP state legislative assembly speaker.
Chang Yeow is said to be a dark horse in the present dispute over who should best lead Penang Gerakan now.
Since its thumping loss in the 2008 general election, Penang Gerakan is "wandering in the dark" as it comes to terms with its role as an opposition without any electoral seats here.
Teng, a veteran and considered chief minister material, caught many by surprise when he revealed the existence of the group, said to originate from the Bayan Baru division, which enjoys support in most other divisions.
"I am ready to call for an extraordinary general meeting if there is proof that party members in Penang want me out," said the doctor, who is also a Gerakan vice-president.
"I may have antagonised many members after being in politics for many years," a sombre Teng told a press conference.
Shadowy group
It is learnt that some Gerakan leaders are speculating that Umno may be behind this shadowy group as it is urging its Barisan Nasional coalition partner to make changes to its perceived weak leadership ahead of the next general election.
Penang is considered one of the country's most developed states, similar to Selangor.
Gerakan is now at a crossroads, said its former vice-president Huan Cheng Guan, who quit the party last year and join a new entity called Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM).
Huan said Gerakan may have all but abandoned its plan to recapture Penang as the Chinese sentiment is still with the DAP.
The party is now focused on other states such as Sabah, hence the move to oust Teng, Huan said.
It is also learnt that PCM is quietly trying to recruit disgruntled and disillusioned Gerakan members, whose rank is said to be growing by the day as Gerakan grapples with the new political reality in the country.

Anwar: Case shows I have no interests in MRCB.....
Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said today's revelation at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on the commercial suit by Khalid Ahmad on Abdul Rahman Maidin has absolved him of any interests in Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB).
Anwar, in his blog posting today, said Umno had been making claims that he has interests in MRCB through Realmild (M) Sdn Bhd.
“I have said at the Kuala Lumpur High Court in 1999, that the 70 percent stake in Realmild was held by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself. I do not have any interests in the company.
“Following the revelation, Mahathir had asked Abdul Rahman to take over the (Realmild) shares, which were then said to be owned by Umno. This only verifies my earlier assertions,” he said.
Anwar said he was thankful to Allah that the slander against him that plagued the minds of the people is now out in the open.
Today, Rahman, the former MRCB chairperson, testified that he had paid RM40 million for the 100 percent stake in Realmild, only to discover from Dr Mahathir later that the shares belonged to Umno.
Rahman said former finance minister Daim Zainuddin had offered him to take over Realmild some time in 1999, and he thought it was merely a pure corporate exercise.
However, he said he was shocked to learn from the then-premier that the shares belonged to Umno and that no payment will be made to him when he had to relinquish them to Syed Anuar Jamalullail, who is the younger brother to the Raja of Perlis.
70% of NST, MRCB takeover unit held in Dr M's name: Anwar
The on going legal dispute between former Realmild director Khalid Ahmad and former Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) chairman Abdul Rahman Maidin in Kuala Lumpur has cleared Anwar Ibrahim of accusations that he had an interest in the company, as alleged by UMNO following his sacking in 1998.
Recounting the accusations against him, Anwar said 70 per cent of the stake in Realmild had been under the name of Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“In 1999, I told the High Court that 70 percent stake in Realmild was held in the name of Dr Mahathir Mohamad. I did not have any interests in the company.
"Following that revelation, Dr Mahathir quickly asked Abdul Rahman Maidin to take over the shares, and at that time it was told that it belonged to UMNO. This proves my earlier assertions,” wrote Anwar in a brief blog posting.
Realmild was the takeover vehicle for NST, MRCB
Abdul Rahman, a former MRCB chairman, was testifying in court yesterday in his defence against a civil suit filed in 2005 by Khalid Ahmad to demand the second half of a RM10 million payment of five per cent of the Realmild’s shares.
He said that he had been informed by the then prime minister (Mahathir) that he could not claim reimbursement for money paid for seven million shares in Realmild because they belonged to UMNO.
It was understood that Abdul Rahman had allegedly paid RM5 million for the shares, but later reneged on the remainder after Dr Mahathir’s shocking revelation that the shares actually belonged to UMNO.
Currently, Abdul Rahman is counter-seeking to recover the RM5 million that he paid to Khalid, but Khalid has maintained that the five percent stake was his own while acknowledging that the majority stake was part of an ‘UMNO Trust’.
Court testimony vindicates me: Anwar

Putrajaya mum on punishment for Johor headmistress
Despite mounting public pressure, the Najib administration has yet to announce whether it planned to punish Johor school principal Siti Inshah Mansor for allegedly uttering racial slurs.
Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin reiterated this afternoon that the buck was now in the hands of the “enforcement authority”, which is due to make a decision soon.
The Deputy Prime Minister who was speaking to reporters after launching a road safety joint operation at KL Sentral here, said this after he was asked if the government planned to use the Sedition Act against Siti Inshah.
“That one, I will leave it entirely up to the enforcement authority to enforce under whatever law. I believe there are available enforcement instruments that can be used... under whatever law,” he replied quickly.
On Thursday, when Muhyiddin was bombarded with the same queries in Putrajaya, he said that the case had been transferred to the Public Service Department (PSD) to decide.
“We have transferred the case to PSD and we hope they will make a decision immediately. That is why it was transferred last week and the PSD director has been asked to make a decision as soon as possible,” he had said.
Muhyiddin, however, stressed that no one would be spared by the law if they behave in a manner detrimental to the country’s harmony.
“We want stern action to be taken so that others would not follow suit,” he said.
When asked to comment on a separate incident involving the existence of a derogatory Facebook profile called “Melayu Babi”, Muhyiddin said the government viewed such incidents seriously.
“Especially on the question of religion... religious issues are very influential issues so if there are parties that choose to play with religion, whether Islam or others, it can definitely trigger a lot of feelings of anger.
“The government views this very seriously. And as we know, the prime minister himself had given a warning a few days ago that these actions can create safety problems and put a strain on the relationships between the different communities. We must avoid this,” he said.
Muhyiddin added that the government had also issued orders to all relevant enforcement agencies to take stern action against those found guilty of committing acts that could lead to religious tension.
“However, we need strong and solid proof first.
“We cannot allow anyone, whether a Muslim or a non-Muslim, to ridicule the religions of others,” he said.
Muhyiddin acknowledged that a police report had been lodged on the offending Facebook page and expressed confidence that the authorities would take the necessary measures to punish the culprits.
“I am sure they have ways to prove who the culprits are. But what is most important is that such incidences should not recur.
“We have, for a long time now, been living in peace and in respect of one another, so why should one religion pollute another? We do not want to see Malaysia in crisis over religious issues,” he said.
On Wednesday, the Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung lodged a police report over the Facebook page in question, claiming that it touched on sensitivities of the Malays and could create religious conflict in the country.

This is the kind of double standards that put the people off. Namewee punished. MP for Serdang insulted and painted dirty by Utusan and Kerismuddin. These are the kinds of attitudes that put ordinary Malaysians off, whether they are Chinese, Malays, Indians, Kadazans or Ibans.
If you say anything pro UMNO, no matter how insulting and intimidating it will be ok. Let us wait and see what punishments await the two principals. Nothing short of a transfer to the interiors of Sabah and Sarawak or a straight forward expulsion will satisfy ordinary Rakyat. UMNO/BN politicize how and what you want to do it, but do not use race and religion. We are not going to back you up to protect your own interests and wealth. Sudahlah! Cukuplah UMNO/BN!

Kit Siang claims double standards in Namewee, school principals cases
Lim Kit Siang put more pressure on Datuk Seri Najib Razak today to act against racism by comparing the swift action against controversial rapper “Namewee” to inaction over two school principals who allegedly uttered racist remarks.
Describing it as “double standards”, Lim pointed out that while Namewee or Wee Meng Chee had been questioned for 10 hours over his latest rap video “Nah!”, the government was still dragging its feet in the school principals case.
“Why double standards against Namewee, questioned for over 10 hours, for his anti-racist outburst as compared to treatment of the two errant school principals?” the DAP adviser (picture) asked in a statement today.
He noted that Wee was questioned yesterday for more than seven hoursvat the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) while three days before, he was questioned a further three hours by the police.
“In contrast, the two school principals in Kulai and Bukit Selambau, who had made racial and seditious slurs against non-Malay students, had been spared such an ordeal although Meng Chee’s video was made as an anti-racist protest against these two incidents,” the Ipoh Timur MP said
Lim also expressed disappointment in a statement from the Public Service Department (PSD) today which said that a show cause letter would be issued to the Kulai principal if she had indeed uttered derogatory remarks at her students.
“Three weeks have passed since the incident in Kulai on August 12. Is it so difficult to establish the facts and the truth of the incident?” he asked.
The Education Ministry had on Thursday announced that the matter had been diverted to the PSD to handle.
In a press conference today, its minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin reiterated that the matter was in the hands of the enforcement agency and deflected questions on whether the government would use the Sedition Act on the principal.
The principal, Siti Inshah Mansor, has been accused of telling her students during a school assembly that the Chinese could go back to China while the Indians resembled “dogs” when wearing their prayer strings.
Her remark sparked off public uproar and the Najib administration’s continued silence on the matter had inspired Wee into producing his “Nah!” video clip.
The youth, with his trademark use of profanities and vulgarities, criticised the two school principals in his video clip and was hauled up by the authorities to explain his actions.
Lim however continued to stress today that there was nothing seditious or racist about Wee’s videclip.
He scoffed at the notion that an anti-racism video could become racist in nature and said that any punishment meted out on the youth should be in proportion to that given out to the two principals.
“Is the three-minute video by rapper Wee seditious? I would say no.
“Is the video racist? I would say no, unless an anti-racist response has also become ‘racist’ in the way former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad wants Malaysians to believe that meritocracy has become a form of racism,” he said.
Lim however admitted that Wee had been “crude, vulgar, abusive and even obscene” in his video.
“Yes. I have said twice publicly that I do not approve of the crude, vulgar, abusive and even obscene style used by Namewee but that is different from saying that it is seditious or racist and deserves the harshest criminal action,” he said.
Lim disagreed with MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s statement that the party would support any action taken by the government against Wee.
“Does this include action under the Sedition Act or other capital offences? How can the MCA leadership with four ministers in the Cabinet take such an irresponsible position, giving a blank cheque to racists and extremists to set the agenda as to the punishment that should be meted out to Meng Chee?
“Isn’t this a gross abdication of responsibility in government?” he said.
Lim further questioned Najib’s sincerity when he pledged “zero tolerance for racism” recently, in his response to the incidents in the schools.
“Where is Najib’s pledge and his slogan of 1 Malaysia when there could be such great contrast between the treatment meted out to the two errant school principals and Meng Chee?
“If action is to be taken against Meng Chee, there must be a sense of proportion and justice with regard to the action meted out to the errant school principals on the one hand and Meng Chee on the other,” he said.

The BN/UMNO government practising double standard? Not something new. It has been a bare fact that this is their style of governance. Trampling the innocents holding candles and staying idle while cow heads carried around by fist punching demostrators. For better or worst, get rid of them in the coming election.
This is just putting the whole situation in our country into perspective , that there is no justice until we have a change of government.Even with GE12,BN has no intentions of changing. In fact, they have came out in the offensive, and allow NGOs like Perkasa to wreck havoc all over while they stand in the background and enjoy the show.
Najib and Muhyiddin seems like a good tag-team,saying good things in public but never back their words up with actions.I believe they do mean it when they said they want 1Malaysia to go through, but it is their "form" of 1Malaysia,and not what the people really want.I just hope with the Siti Inshah/Namewee case, the public will finally be awaken to BN's empty talk and start exercising their voting rights in GE13.Vote with your conscience, and with the welfare and future of the country and our children in mind.
