The deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin claims that he predicts that the ruling coalition BN (Barisan Nasional) would be winning the upcoming by-election of Galas with a comfortable and big majority. The Galas state constituency fell vacant afte Che Hashim Sulaima from PAS passed away due to colon cancer. The seat was a former BN stronghold and it lost to PAS for the first time during the last general election where Saufi Deraman, the incumbent lost to Che Hashim by 646 votes.
Muhyiddin said “The war is not over yet. We have not won until the results are announced tomorrow night. God willing, we will win in all the 13 polling districts. We are not being arrogant here, but we have a candidate that is capable of serving the people. From what we have witnessed, in almost all polling districts, the response has been encouraging, even in the districts that we lost (previously),” He added that “PAS is desperate for querying the Election Commission’s (EC) decision to count Orang Asli votes at the tallying centre and not at polling stations. That is the sign that they are under pressure, [when] even a normal procedure by [the] EC is being questioned,”
