Nik Aziz tells PAS supporters not to despair
PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat told party supporters today not to despair over the loss of the Galas state seat to Barisan Nasional (BN).
The Kelantan mentri besar said: “As fighters for Islam, we should not despair over such a situation because it is part of the trials and tribulations that Muslims must face.”
Speaking to reporters after launching a drive to collect funds for an extension to the Mukim Panji mosque here, Nik Aziz (picture) said the BN usually did well in by-elections because “they had the machinery to do anything” and could focus their efforts.
BN candidate Abdul Aziz Yusoff obtained 5,324 votes while PAS’s Dr Zulkifli Mohamed secured 4,134 in the straight contest.
Nik Aziz had earlier said that he accepted the defeat if the people truly wanted BN and not because they were threatened or bribed.
PAS election director Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman meanwhile said the party would conduct a post-mortem on the by-election this Sunday.
One factor that would be studied was the involvement of Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah as BN director of the by-election, he told the press.
According to him, PAS had been prepared for defeat, but was shocked by the size of it.
“We felt that even if we were to lose, it would be by 600 to 700 votes, going by past trends. A defeat by more than 1,000 votes shocked us,” Halim said.
He rejected suggestions that the defeat was due to PAS adopting the wrong strategy.
“The strategy was right. May be it was not well executed, but the strategy was right,” he said.

Don't worry Tok Guru. Pas and Pakatan Rakyat will make it comes the next GE. The BN machinery is too tough for Pas. The media will twist and turn facts against Pas irreligiously. Money is given freely. The voters (some) go for short-term gain. In the long run, they will return to Pas. Pakatan Rakyat will grow wiser with this loss. Stay united and become a viable alternatiive to BN. The people want this. Insya Allah, the people will be with you. Salam from us, Tok Guru. We respect you.
