Umno Youth tones down in line with reform pitch

There was an air of unfamiliarity about the Umno Youth annual general assembly here today. The signature race rhetoric was missing, the hard-line speeches were nowhere to be found.

The most radical and far right element of Umno, the wing that has never failed in the past to court controversy with their hawkish spirit in upholding their “Malay supremacy” ideals, was kept in check today.

Ultimately, it was a well rehearsed and orchestrated attempt to present a softer face of a party trying to reform itself.

Speeches from the wing’s delegates at today’s event were particularly cordial and constructive.

Apart from minor complaints here and there, delegates spoke on how the party should be strengthened, how the party should do more to approach the young, to make the youth wing become the number one choice for the country’s youth.

Just weeks ago, there were fierce calls by divisional representatives, including youth leaders, to reclaim the seats in Malay majority constituencies that were given to non-Malay component parties. The Umno AGM would have been the best platform to press home this demand.

“This is not the youth wing that I know, they seemed tame, as if they were invisibly gagged and told to tone down,” said a party member who did not want to be named.

“What is going on?” asked the member in jest, adding that he had come to today’s assembly with high hopes of listening to “fiery speeches” from the youth delegates.

The subdued affair appeared in line with Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin’s call for a change in attitude, to put a stop to the wing’s practice of taking a more radical stand than that of the main party’s leadership.

The tone also appeared to be in line with Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s intention of sending a message of reform through the party’s assembly.

Tomorrow, delegates will vote on the proposed constitutional amendments that would remove the quota for those vying for the party’s top posts and make Umno more democratic.

For over 5 decades of support given, UMNO BN could only afford continuous dishonour & disgrace !!!

Government machinery are all serving as a tool for UMNO BN !!!
From executive & Public services & civil servants to judiciary's CJ Zaki Azmi, AG, Police IGP, MACC, EC, MCMC and even exploiting the Monarchy, UMNO held it all from top to bottom & inside out!!!

Corrupted, Racist, Incompetent & Low Quality UMNO BN leaders & thier supporters should be ashamed of themselves !!!!

Cronyism, nepotism, racism, corruption, power abuses, mis-management, money politics, hypocrisy, double standard........

From highway tolls(10% hikes every 3 yrs), Angkasawan, Mark-up defence spendings, Eurocopters, Submarines, Tenaga IPP, BMF, fuel prices sudden heights, mega white elephant projects, man-made lakes & bridges in Putrajaya, crooked bridge, bailouts, PKFZ RM12bil, AIMST, Racist UMNO paper UTUSAN, Zakaria Deros & his Palace, VK Lingam, Biro Tata Negara, Racist Ahmad Ismail, Snake Racist Hamidah Osman, money politicians & Ali Rustam, Balkis, Khir Toyo & Disneyland, C4 Altantuya, robbing Natives' lands, UMNO Crony Contractors, Parliament & Palace of Justice roof leakage, MRRII cracks ...... .....etc....

Is this muted pitch an actual reform or they are told to close their lips but continue to do the same? What we really need to get from UMNO is the actual deed. Once Malaysians can see with their own eyes that UMNO is no longer racist and no longer practice Malay supremacy and more inclusive and fair to all Malaysians then that will be time to say that they have reformed. At the moment, it is just a showcase with no deed yet.

Sincerity counts in wanting to create harmony. Let us see how long this 'sandiwara' will hold up. I call it 'sandiwara' because nothing so far can convince the non-Malay voters that all this new tone is not just political expediency!
