RoS won’t deregister party
The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has withdrawn its plans to deregister PKR for allegedly breaching its constitution, party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said today.
He disclosed the RoS’s decision was based on the party’s reply to a show-cause letter.
“PKR has been informed that RoS will not carry out their plans to deregister the party,” Saifuddin said in a statement.
The Machang MP said that RoS was “satisfied” with the explanation provided in PKR’s reply to the original show-cause letter.
He also said that party will be dropping all legal charges against RoS.
The show-cause letter sent by Registrar Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman on May 9 said that PKR had “wilfully violated Clause 32.2.1 of the party constitution by sacking Rajagopal a/l Andaikkalam on 01/04/2009 and 27/04/2009 without first being investigated and heard by the disciplinary board”.
PKR has maintained that the clause in question does not exist in its constitution, and has pointed out that RoS had made several mistakes in their letter as the member the party had sacked was named A. Jayagopal, and he was sacked on April 26, 2009.
According to Saifuddin, Jayagopal was sacked for contesting in the Bukit Selambau by-election as an independent against PKR candidate S. Manikumar, who won the seat on April 7, 2009.
