MCA savaging DAP to mask flaws
Lim Guan Eng accused MCA today of trying to deflect focus from its shortcomings ahead of national polls by calling DAP a racist party.
The DAP secretary-general also called attention to today’s 20 sen petrol price hike, which he said was further proof of the Barisan Nasional (BN) party’s “ineffectiveness to improve the livelihood of the people”.
The price for the RON 97-grade petrol at pumps was raised to RM2.90 per litre from today, exemplifying the federal government’s moves to wean the public off subsidies, which has drawn a huge outcry from voters.
“MCA has no right to label DAP as racists when DAP is a multi-racial party fighting for all Malaysians regardless of race, religion, gender or even political affiliation,” Lim said in a statement today.
“This is proven by PR’s good governance and record of treating all equally. Instead it is MCA and Umno that are the real racists for fighting only for the Chinese or only for the Malays respectively,” he added.
DAP is a founding partner with PKR and PAS in the opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR) bloc.
DAP and MCA have been exchanging increasingly barbed attacks since the April 16 Sarawak state election.
Observers have practically written off the Chinese community’s support for the ruling BN coalition in the next general election, which is expected to be called as early as this August, ahead of its 2013 expiry.
Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, taunted further the MCA on its failure to silence Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia’s increasingly strident tone championing Malay ideology.
“What happened to MCA’s previous loud calls to boycott Utusan?” he asked.
“Has this latest MCA boycott campaign quietly fizzled out because of fear of (Tan Sri) Muhyiddin (Hassan’s) warnings that boycotting Utusan Malaysia could risk muzzling the voice of the Malay community as Utusan represented the voice of the Malays?” he challenged.
The Bagan MP said that only Umno’s former Wanita chief, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, had openly rejected the influential Malay-language daily’s “1 Melayu, 1 Bumi” movement, saying it was threat to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s unifying 1 Malaysia campaign.
Lim said even Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin refused to disagree with the idea for a “1 Melayu, 1 Bumi” campaign, and did not even repeat Najib’s evasive answer — that the movement was only a personal opinion of Utusan Malaysia’s editors.
He added that it was unthinkable the newspaper that “endorses hatred, violence, racial dominance or supremacy and wants to celebrate the bloody May 13 tragedy that killed innocent Malaysians as a holy day, can represent the voice of the Malays”.
The DAP politician said it was not surprising that MCA abandoned its planned boycott and “obediently” follow Muhyiddin’s advice.
“However, it is surprising that MCA has instead decided to launch into a ferocious and rabid attack on DAP as the real racists.
“Clearly MCA feels that DAP is easier to bully than Utusan Malaysia, a classic case of fearing the wicked and bullying the good,” Lim said.

Fully agreed with LGE. MCA is history and all the ordinary people will make sure that not a single MCA guy be elected to Parliament or the state gorvenment.
MCA is dead and gone. Chua Soi Lek I would suggest that you dissolve MCA once and for all. It will be total humiliating for MCA if they contest the next GE. CSL please walk around in the urban areas and you will find that the Chinese community will reject MCA.
MCA is a sure gone case come PRU 13! People just do not trust them anymore and we are just counting on how many seats they can retain, if at all.
I wish to join MCA, will the MCA accept me? I want to join DAP, they will accept my friends, Surendran, Jagjit and Co with open arms. Whereas, MCA, only for Chinese, like UMNO. Just look at the performance of the MCA ministers, are they working?
They are there for the perks only, do you think they care for the Rakyat? If they care for the Chinese, or the Rakyat, they would have adviced Mahathir to maintain the English medium schools understanding the importance of English, but did they? They could have done so much but contributed so little, so it is high time we show them the door - OUT!
No Chinese representations in Government? So what? With MCA and GERAKAN and SUPP in the Government, do you have representations? They will only know how to clasp their hands together and kowtow, kowtow and kowtow to UMNO!! So, folks, do not bother about this no Chinese representation threats, this is just another election troll.
The Chinese form 26% of Malaysia's population and you are just as important to the Country as they are to you. If the Government is not governing well, it is the responsibility of all, not only the Chinese to vote them out. This is democracy, and clearly MCA/GERAKAN/MIC/SUPP all racists parties are not functioning in a multi racial country! Vote Pakatan Rakyat! Vote for Change!
