MACC to make public findings of high profile cases when investigations complete

Share
Datuk Abu Kassim Mohammad, the chief of the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) said that plans are in place where they would inform the public about the findings of their investigations and the outcomes of the highly publicized cases. This he said would include cases which have been closed as well as those which are classified under the ‘no further action’ category’.

He said “”The matter was discussed at a recent commission management meeting and it was felt that such a policy was needed in the name of justice and transparency. The proposal will be tabled before the commission’s advisory board meeting next month. However, this will only involve cases that are of public interest or those highlighted by the media. We will not announce the status of all cases, because there are some of which the public have no knowledge of, and it should remain so. We will also discuss with the Attorney-General’s Chambers the legal implications of this decision. If there is no objection, we will make it a policy. We are doing this to show that we are transparent, and so the public will have confidence in us.”
