The Housing and Local Government Ministry has allocated almost RM60 million to install and manage 496 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in 25 local authority areas nationwide to reduce crime, Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung said today.
He said the allocation was for a five-year period and all the CCTV cameras were expected to be installed by the end of August this year.
The locations of the CCTV cameras were selected based on information given by the police, he told reporters at his office here after chairing a meeting on his ministry’s plans.
Reducing crime is one of the National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) and the ministry has been given the responsibility of installing the CCTV cameras in the local authority hotspots nationwide,’ he said.
‘If we can reduce crime in this way, then we will apply to the government to install more CCTV cameras next year,’ he added.
In the Klang Valley, 24 CCTV cameras each have been installed in Shah Alam, Ampang Jaya, Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya and Selayang, and 16 each in Klang and Kajang. — Bernama

500 cameras at a very high price of say RM1000, costs only RM500,000.
Pay RM2,000 for cabling for each camera using the best cable there is, the cost of which is RM1,000,000.
Each local authorithy haven its own monitoring station and the equipment cost you a hefty RM100,000 each, the total is RM2,500,000. Ok, let us put it at RM200,000 each, it still cost only RM5,000,000.
Maintenance, not absolutely necessary, we put it at a cut throat price of RM10,000 a mth. 25 local aothority for 5 years (60 mths), the total, maintenance work out to be a heftyRM15 million.
What is the grand total? RM21,500,000.
How does RM60,000,000 work out. Another ripped off, another direct negotiation ot fixup.
BN/UMNO government taking the reason of reducing crime to rip off rakyat money. G13 must vote them out, if not Malaysia will happen like Greece in 2019.
