We were caught off guard by DAP – SUPP

Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam, the president of SUPP said that the reason they lost in the by-election of Sibu was because they were ‘caught off guard’ after the opposition raised 2 religious issues. Robert Lau represented the SUPP for the BN (Barisan Nasional) lost to DAP’s Wong Ho Leng by a 398 majority votes. Dr George said “The controversy over the word “Allah” was capitalised to devastating effect. Yes, this issue was very damaging. The Opposition used it to full effect.” He added that “The Opposition also claimed that Bibles were seized and burned in Peninsular Malaysia. Personally, I don't believe that we (the Govern-ment) would do such things. However, the tide turned against us because the Opposition used such controversial and sensitive issues. We (the SUPP) were not prepared to answer such allegations because we never encountered such religious problems in the state. We were overwhelmed by the issues they brought up,”

He added that “In previous elections, the Opposition harped on such issues, but the people understood when we replied. This time, the issues raised were of a totally different nature. We were not prepared,”

SUPP,BN lost b'coz Najib try to hold the SIBU by their balls. Federal govt should help out whichever place got natural disaster as the money use are from the people. Don't put condition. TRY DOING THIS AGAIN DURING NEXT GE< AND SEE WHAT HAPPEN< IF YOU DARE!!!!!

The offer of RM5 million to the people of Sibu is totally unaccepted in democratic practice and it is also a ransom offer. It is totally un-called-for to be spoken from the PM's mouth, this is a sign of desperation !!!
