PAS workers attacked, claimed to be done by Umno

The by-election campaigning of Bagan Election took an ugly turn when some PAS party workers were assaulted in several incidents that took place at 3pm yesterday and some during the early hours of Thursday.

According to Abdul Rashid Hassan Basri, the security chief of PAS, 9 people were injured in the attacks allegedly done by about a hundred members linked to Umno.

The 14 PAS workers were putting up campaign material when they were attacked. He said "He was slashed with a samurai sword. The victim ran from the mob - who targeted those sporting the PAS logo - and was later slashed at the police station.”

According to Salahuddin Ayub, the Elections Director of the Bagan Pinang Pas, “The victim was surrounded by a group who came in 13 cars and 16 motorcycles. Their purpose was to provoke us. This was started by (Umno supreme council member) Abdul Azeez (Rahim) on nomination day. 9 police reports have been lodged but he laments that the police have been slow to act.”
