The High Court ruled today to reinstate the Wives of Selangor Elected Representatives Association (Balkis), removing a hurdle for the mentri besar’s wife to recover RM9.9 million that had been moved out of its coffers three years ago.
Puan Sri Salbiah Tunut, wife to Selangor MB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, won today her challenge against the Registrar of Societies (RoS) which had deregistered Balkis last year, enabling her to now assume her rightful position as the association’s president.
“With Balkis reinstated with effect from February 11 last year, Puan Sri Salbiah (picture), being president of the body, can now take action and write in to Bakti to get the money back for Balkis,” her lawyer S. Selvarajah told.
Balkis hit headlines after Khalid claimed its funds were misappropriated under the watch of its previous president, Datin Seri Zahrah Kechik, wife to his predecessor Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo.
The association was reported to have transferred RM9.9 million from its bank account into the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) after calling an emergency general meeting (EGM) three days after the landmark Election 2008, on March 11.
Selvarajah said High Court judge Datuk Rohana Yusuf also ruled the EGM was invalid and cancelled the RoS’ deregistration of Balkis.
“RoS had acted wrongfully based on defective documents. The deregistration was not done according to [Balkis’] constitution and the Registrar of Societies Act. It failed to verify the attendance and agenda [of Balkis’ EGM],” the lawyer said.

Why on earth everything wrong and eveil are associated with UMNO? What is wrong with this party? High time we sweep this party into history.
The learned judge for sure will not get any promotion from BN govt.
Justice is still far from served, people.
Wait till the $$$$ are recovered, and those responsible for the missing fund are brought to justice.
