The first of the promised cash handouts announced in Budget 2012 will be disbursed to schoolchildren by the end of this month, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.
When tabling Budget 2012 in Parliament, Najib promised cash handouts, more money for civil servants, schools and a fund for “high-impact development” projects as part of his measures to put cash in the pockets of voters ahead of a general election expected soon.
Among others, the prime minister pledged cash assistance in the form of one-off RM500 to all households with monthly incomes below RM3,000, schooling assistance of RM100 for all primary and secondary students from Year 1 to Form 5 as well as RM200 book vouchers for all students in public and private local institutions of higher learning, matriculation and Form 6 students.
On the RM500 to households, Najib said the Cabinet Committee on Cost of Living chaired by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would decide how this would be disbursed to ensure that it reached the target group.

most of the students are already on holiday. The school may invest the surplus money in buying a property or falls into the pockets of some cronies or vultures waiting in the wings.
