elction funds and robbery of the people....Super subsidy for diesel abolished June 1

Share

The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry today announced that the super subsidy for diesel accorded to nine categories of commercial vehicles is to be abolished, effective June 1.

The nine categories are prime movers; general cargo movers; Luton box vans; vans (panel vans, semi-panel vans and window vans); rigid-lorries for bottled beverages; rigid tanker lorries for flour transport; rigid lorries for refrigerated goods; water tankers; and limousine taxis.

In a statement, the ministry said that all nine categories of vehicles would no longer be allowed to purchase diesel at a subsidised price of RM1.481 per litre.

The said vehicles, however, will still be eligible for a subsidised price of RM1.80 per litre at petrol stations nationwide.

The statement also said that the decision had been prompted by rising fuel prices, which have been escalating worldwide since October last year, and in turn, caused an increase in the amount of subsidy borne by the government.

Following the abolishment, the ministry said the government is expected to save RM659.3 million in subsidies this year even though it will still have to bear RM116 million in subsidies for the public transportation sector.

The move is also designed to control leakages and the illegal sales of subsidised diesel to ineligible buyers.

The subsidy accorded to other public transportation vehicles remains unchanged
