another BN project to disgrace PR...State PKR leader charged with graft for giving ‘Datuk’ title

A state PKR leader and a woman were separately charged at the Sessions Court here today with receiving a RM50,000 bribe to help secure a Kelantan state award carrying the title “Datuk” for a man.

Kelantan PKR Rantau Panjang division leader Datuk Mohammad Agos Mohd Noor was charged under Section 28(1)(c) of the MACC Act 2009 and Nor Azimah Jamaludin was charged under Section 16(a)(A) of the same act.

Both pleaded not guilty.

If convicted, they each face imprisonment of not more than 20 years and a fine not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) charged the duo with receiving the RM50,000 bribe from a man to get him the Dato’ D’Raja award from Persatuan Kerabat D’Raja DYMM Long Yunus in Kelantan.

Mohammad Agos, 51, was accused of abetting Nor Azimah, 31, in receiving RM50,000 from Izuldin Hani Mohd Noor last December to secure for the latter the state award.

The PKR man also faced an alternative charge of abetting Nor Azimah in deceiving Izuldin into believing that he could get the Dato’ D’Raja award, which contravened the Kelantan state constitution.

Mohammad Agos, dressed in a black blazer and trousers, was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code in his alternative charge.

If convicted, he faces imprisonment of between one and 10 years, whipping, and a possible fine.

Nor Azimah, who is self-employed, also faces the same punishment in her alternative charge of deceiving Izuldin.

MACC prosecution head Datuk Abdul Razak Musa requested for bail to be set at RM30,000 bail for both the accused.

When pleading for a lower bail, Nor Azimah said: “I worked according to Agos’s instructions. He gave orders to me.”

The woman, who was wearing a floral-patterned blouse over a long purple skirt, said she was a single mother and could not afford the RM30,000 bail.

Abdul Razak, however, insisted on the bail amount, saying Mohammad Agos faced a serious charge.

“It involves an offence against the Kelantan constitution,” said the MACC prosecution head.

Judges Rosbiahanin Arifin and Rozilah Salleh later set bail at RM30,000 for each of the pair.

It was reported today that Persatuan Kerabat D’Raja DYMM Long Yunus conferred the “Datukship” on 28 people at Kota Baru in Kelantan last December.

The Kelantan Sultan was reportedly unhappy with the association for conferring the awards.

The cases are set for mention on May 9.

WHY ONLY Kelantan PKR LEADER charge with graft for the royal title issuance when Umno had been practising this culture for the past few decades ?
