Umno owned newspaper Utusan Malaysia has hit out again at the opposition front PR (Pakatan Rakyat) again where the daily said that the leaders of the component parties in Pakatan, namely Lim Kit Siang, the DAP senior leader, Datuk NikAziz Nik Mat, the spiritual leader of PAS and Karpal Singh, the national chairman of DAP have all overstayed their welcome and that they should learn the Egypt lesson where the leader President Hosni Mubarak who has been in power for 30 years have been called by the people to step down.
Datuk Zaini Hassan, the assistant editor-in-chief of Utusan hit out at Lim, Karpal as well as opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for ‘passing down’ power to their family members. He wrote “In my time in journalism covering politics and elections, when I was sent to Kelantan, I saw Nik Aziz Nik Mat as mentri besar after the 1990 election. Unfortunately, up to now, Nik Aziz is taking root in the seat. I’m sure if he’s sane, he will not contest in the next general election. Lim Kit Siang is still holding up the sky in DAP. The same with Karpal Singh. BN leaders should similarly not hold on to power for too long, and made a veiled reference to Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who has governed the state since 1981, but did not name any of the ruling coalition’s leaders. There is a chief minister who has passed his 30th year in power (the same as Mubarak). Hasn’t he learned? I’m sure if he does, he will step down voluntarily and make way for the next level,”
Applauding former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad he said “He felt his mission was complete and so he stepped down” meanwhile, he criticized Kit Siang for pushing his son and daughter in law in potlics and “Karpal had also done the same by staying as chairman and giving seats to his sons, Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo and Datuk Keramat state assemblyman Jagdeep Singh Deo. Anwar Ibrahim who founded PKR has also given power to his wife and daughter. The result is PKR is nearly a failed party as many leaders have run away from the party,”
He added that “We hope that in the 13th general election, PM (Datuk Seri) Najib Razak, as Umno president and BN chairman, will present young faces who are competent and have quality to contest for state assembly seats. Let them take over the administration of states and be mentri besar, just as Najib was MB at a young age before. Malaysia was now full of young and educated people, and questioned whether they were being allowed to take up positions in parties that are in power. Has there been any efforts to attract them or not as others who have held on to those positions are trying to protect their own supporters?”
