PAS will not call for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) as proposed by its spiritual leader, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, but will instead convene a special meeting to discuss issues related to the party, vice-president Salahuddin Ayub said.
He told Bernama today that the issue of PAS calling for an EGM no longer arose as Nik Aziz himself had suggested that the forum be changed into a special meeting.
Salahuddin said that Nik Aziz conveyed the matter to him at their meeting at the latter's residence in Kota Baharu yesterday.
"It does not arise anymore. I met the Tok Guru yesterday and listen to his views on the party. The central PAS will convene a special meeting soon; Nik Aziz told me about this in our meeting yesterday," he said.
Last Friday, in his blog www.blogtokguru.com, Nik Aziz called for a special "muktamar" to rid the party of "two or three problematic leaders".
He mentioned three leaders in his blog, namely deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa, secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali and Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Hassan Ali.
Asked whether the "problematic leaders" had contacted him, Salahuddin said they had not.
"None of them contacted me since the posting of the blog entry (on the EGM)," he said.
Meanwhile, academician Assoc Prof Dr Ahmad Nidzamuddin Sulaiman said if the EGM was to go on, it could cause disunity among the Malays.
The senior Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia political science lecturer said if the move to clean the party of problematic leaders was to go on, it could give rise to the emergence of a new political party.
"This will cause disunity among the Malays and will split supporters of the party," he said.
He added that the right forum to refer these "problematic" leaders was the PAS General Assembly next year and not through an EGM as it would give the impression that the party was desperate.
"The crisis in PAS is probably not as serious as the one faced by the MCA; why then the need for an EGM? The clash between the modernists and traditionalists in the party should be resolved internally," he said.

It is time to get rid of Kafir wolves dressed as PAS sheep, who are out to promote their self-interest above all else ! If the clean-up does not happen Now, it will mean defeat for Pakatan Rakyat and PAS in following by-elections, and the GE13.
We Must clean our backyards of Utterly Moronic Nazi Organization Trojan horses, and put them out to pasture before it is too late for PAS & Malaysia.
at the special meeting Nik aziz ought to demand for the resignation of Nash, Hadi, Hassan Ali....thereby saving PAS money instead of holding the EGM...
These leaders holding PAS membership but having UMNO mentality? If so, they are wolf in sheep clothing. It is not surprise Nik Aziz is very concerned. Under this state of affairs, the rakyat will not support the party. A little success already so carried away with beer banning, this and that, etc. what happens when in power! I can't imagine!
